3. Verify and create persistent IP assignments

I have not changed live dhcpd on 172.22.0.1. I prepared reservation text from measured MACs. That text is not in the repository file and was not opened as a PR.

Live addresses recaptured 2026-09-29.

How IPs are assigned

The lab uses ISC dhcpd on 172.22.0.0/16. The copy in this repository is hardware/mgmt/fs/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf.

  • Reservations: host blocks with hardware ethernet and fixed-address (dh1–dh4, BF2, iDRACs, ToR).
  • Unknown pool: range 172.22.222.1 172.22.222.254. Docs call 172.22.222.0/24 “dhcp allocated to any unknown device.”
  • Shared options: domain lab.opiproject.org, DNS 8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1, router 172.22.0.1.

The repository file is not proven identical to production. There is still no host dh5, dh5idrac, dh5bf3, or dh5bf3bmc in the repo file, and no 172.22.1.5 / 2.5 / 3.5 / 4.5.

ansible/inventory has dh5 at 172.22.1.5 and bf3 / bf3bmc at the planned 172.22.3.5 / 172.22.4.5. There is no dh5bmc for 172.22.2.5.

rshim 192.168.100.1/30 ↔ 192.168.100.2 is a host–DPU link, not DHCP.

What each address is doing now

Role Planned Live How it got the address
DH5 iDRAC 172.22.2.5 172.22.2.5 DHCP on iDRAC. MAC a8:3c:a5:38:19:f8. No matching host in repo dhcpd.conf
DPU Host 5 172.22.1.5 172.22.1.5 on eno12399np0 Planned address is live. Earlier temporary 172.22.222.14 is down. No host dh5 in the repo file. Whether production dhcpd or a static/netplan change assigned .1.5 was not recaptured
BlueField-3 OS 172.22.3.5 172.22.222.3 on oob_net0 Unknown pool. No reservation. Planned 172.22.3.5 does not answer. rshim 192.168.100.2 is a second SSH path, not the management LAN
BlueField-3 BMC 172.22.4.5 172.22.222.2 (dpu-bmc) Unknown pool. Planned 172.22.4.5 does not answer. BMC MAC unknown

Old OOB 172.22.222.18 is stale. Do not use it.

MACs

Measured on root@dh5 (2026-09-07; host and iDRAC MACs still match Task 1 recapture 2026-09-29):

eno12399np0      UP             d4:04:e6:d8:0c:70
oob_net0         UP             9c:63:c0:e4:b7:f4

eno12399np0 matches iDRAC NIC.Integrated.1-1-1 (D4:04:E6:D8:0C:70).

Do not use the ToR Ethernet30 LLDP MAC d4:04:e6:2a:b0:21 (adjacent to repo host dh4 d4:04:e6:2a:b0:20).

Port MAC Proposed host / address
eno12399np0 (DPU Host 5) d4:04:e6:d8:0c:70 dh5 → 172.22.1.5
DH5 iDRAC a8:3c:a5:38:19:f8 dh5idrac → 172.22.2.5
BF3 oob_net0 9c:63:c0:e4:b7:f4 dh5bf3 → 172.22.3.5
BF3 BMC unknown omit dh5bf3bmc until we have a MAC

Pattern to copy

Dell hosts use dhN + dhNidrac. BF2 uses dh2bf2 + dh2bf2bmc.

host dh2 {
    hardware ethernet 00:62:0b:a2:59:8e;
    fixed-address 172.22.1.2;
}

host dh2ilo {
    hardware ethernet 5c:ed:8c:b4:41:c6;
    fixed-address 172.22.2.2;
}

host dh2bf2 {
    hardware ethernet 94:6d:ae:b9:85:7e;
    fixed-address 172.22.3.2;
}

host dh2bf2bmc {
    hardware ethernet 94:6d:ae:b9:85:72;
    fixed-address 172.22.4.2;
}
