NeuralBeat 1.0.0 - "The Isochronic Update"

This major release introduces Isochronic Tones support along with UI enhancements and preset restructuring.

✨ New Features

  • Isochronic Tones: A completely new beat type that generates rhythmic pulsing tones.

    • Single tone (carrier) pulsed on/off at the brainwave frequency
    • Works with both headphones and speakers (no stereo separation required)
    • Pulse rate controls the brainwave entrainment frequency
    • Carrier tone is the audible pitch you hear
  • Dynamic UI Labels: When Isochronic mode is selected, the frequency labels change to "Pulse Rate (Hz)" and "Carrier Tone (Hz)" for clarity

  • Restructured Presets: Presets are now organized into two categories:

    • "Binaural Beat / Monaural Beat" - Combined for easier navigation
    • "Isochronic Tone" - New section for isochronic presets

🎨 UI & UX Improvements

  • Three Beat Modes: Users can now select between Binaural Beat, Monaural Beat, and Isochronic Tone
  • Dynamic Box Names: The Left/Right frequency boxes now change labels based on the selected beat type
  • Centered Layout: Beat Type, Background Noise, and Ramp Settings sections are now centered for better alignment
  • Merged Preset Categories: Binaural and Monaural presets are now combined into one column
  • Updated Preset Type Dropdown: Create Preset dropdown now shows "Binaural Beat / Monaural Beat" and "Isochronic Tone"

🎵 Presets

🧪 Technical Changes

  • New IsochronicGenerator Class: Dedicated audio generator for isochronic tones with proper amplitude modulation
  • AudioConfig Extension: Added beat_type field to support different beat generation modes
  • Preset Structure Update: Isochronic presets now use carrier_hz and pulse_hz instead of left/right frequencies

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed preset application to properly set the beat type when selecting presets
  • Fixed ramp settings to work correctly with isochronic tones

NeuralBeat 0.9.0 - "The Visualizer Update"

This is a major feature release that introduces a host of new audio capabilities and significant user interface enhancements, centered around the new real-time oscilloscope.

✨ New Features

  • Real-time Oscilloscope: A new, pop-out oscilloscope window provides a live visualization of the generated audio waveforms.
    • Scrolling Display: Features a smooth, scrolling display for seamless animation.
    • Customizable Colors: Choose from multiple color palettes for the left and right channel lines via the Settings menu.
    • Merged/Split View: A "Merge Waves" toggle allows you to either overlay the waveforms for phase comparison or split them into separate halves of the display for clarity.
  • Background Noise Generator: You can now mix in background noise with your beats to help mask distractions.
    • Available types: White, Pink, and Brown noise.
    • Includes a dedicated volume control.
  • Triangle Waveform: A new Triangle waveform has been added to the list of available oscillators, providing another tonal option.
  • WAV Export with Progress: The WAV export functionality now runs in a background thread and displays a progress bar, preventing the UI from freezing during long exports.

🎨 UI & UX Improvements

  • Major UI Reorganization: The main window has been restructured for better clarity.
    • A new "Advanced Controls" section now neatly houses the noise and ramp settings.
    • These settings are further organized into distinct "Background Noise" and "Ramp Settings" subsections.
  • Modern Toggle Switch: The "Enable Ramp" checkbox has been upgraded to a modern, stoggle switch for better visual feedback.
  • Relocated Status Bar: The real-time status display (Beat, L/R Hz, Time Remaining) has been moved to the bottom control bar, placing it centrally between the "Generate" and "Stop" buttons for maximum visibility.
  • Streamlined Ramp Controls: The "Brainwave Presets" dropdown (Alpha, Beta, etc.) has been removed from the ramp settings to simplify the interface.
  • Layout Centering: The "Advanced Controls" subsections are now centered within their container for a more balanced and professional look.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a critical bug where the oscilloscope window could not be closed using the window's 'X' button.
  • Resolved an issue where the oscilloscope would not draw any data after being opened.
  • Fixed a NameError crash that occurred due to the UI update loop being called before the status variable was initialized.
  • Corrected an AttributeError related to ttkbootstrap.Switch by using the compatible ttk.Checkbutton with a round-toggle style.
  • Fixed an issue where identical left and right channel waveforms would merge and become indistinguishable in the oscilloscope; they are now visually separated by default.

🔧 For Developers & Contributors

  • Project Renamed: The project has been officially renamed from "BinauralBeatGenerator" to "NeuralBeat". All internal paths, configuration directories (~/.neuralbeat), and documentation have been updated accordingly.
  • Exhaustive Documentation: The README.md has been completely rewritten to provide comprehensive details on all features, a full user guide, and in-depth information on the project's architecture and scientific principles.
