Release list
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.9 (ear candy round 2, made from your kick)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
- Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.9:
- Ear candy, round 2. Three more transition FX, each on its own track and switched off:
- a reverse kick swelling into each drop's first kick;
- a stutter (a Beat Repeat-style kick roll) on the last beat before the other section changes;
- a tape stop, the kick braking to a halt, into each kick-less breakdown.
These three are made from your set's own kick: the same sample and tuning, with the Kick's effects, fader and level.
- Quieter ear candy. Stutters, tape stops, impacts, reverse crashes and risers play 6 dB down.
- One Ear candy switch, in Advanced → Arrangement (off by default). The ARR FX key is no longer on the lid.
- The first launch after updating rebuilds your Live template, which adds the new tracks. It takes a few minutes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.8 (Arrangement FX, the lid by default)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
- Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.8:
- The lid is the app. stemflow opens on the hardware-style lid. The old step-by-step screens are still there for now.
- Arrangement FX (ARR FX key, off by default). When you turn it on, stemflow adds its own transition FX, each on
its own track and switched off, so every hit is a clip you can move, swap or delete:- an impact on beat 1 of each section change;
- a reverse crash swelling over the 2 bars into it;
- a white-noise riser over the 8 bars into each drop, pumping with the kick.
The sounds are stemflow's own (synthesized, no samples).
- The first launch after updating rebuilds your Live template, which adds the new tracks. It takes a few minutes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.7 (a more balanced techno mix)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
- Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.7:
- A more balanced techno starting mix, retuned by ear in a real session: the kick keeps its attack, the Rumble sits
under the kick, the bass is a low-passed sub that pumps harder, vocals and the song's other parts sit under the remix,
and the song's drum stem keeps only its tops, a layer over stemflow's drums. - Everything from alpha.6 stays: stemflow's own kick and the Sidechain key's normal/high levels.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.6 (techno tuning, own kick, Sidechain High)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
- Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.6:
- Techno sounds closer to a finished track out of the box: new default levels, sends and effects on every track,
tuned by ear in a real session. - stemflow's own kick: techno now plays a kick made by stemflow itself, shipped with the app, so every set starts
with the same punchy kick. Pick any other kick in the Sounds panel and yours wins. - Sidechain High: the Sidechain key now has two lights. Press once for normal (green), again for high (red: the
pump is twice as deep on every ducked track), again for off.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.12 (analyse songs ahead, your template overwritten properly)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once). If macOS doesn't show Open Anyway, run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/stemflow.appin Terminal. - Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.12:
- Analyse songs ahead. Advanced → Analyse: drop a whole crate at once. Quick reads tempo, beat grid and key; Full also splits the stems and reads sections, chords and MIDI, so remixing those songs later starts at once.
- Your template, overwritten properly. Saved a remix as your template? Tracks with stemflow's names now get the new remix's clips instead of a second copy of every track. Your devices, mix and groups stay; old clips go.
- Tidier set. The reverse kick sits in Drums, right under the Kick (it's the same sample). The other arrangement FX get their own Arrangement FX group, and the loops a Loops group.
- One switch for the arrangement FX. The Transitions key on the lid now switches every FX track (impacts, swells, risers, reverse kicks, stutters, tape stops), on by default. The Ear candy switch is gone.
- Follow chords and Warp / bar wear burnt orange caps, so they stand apart from the stem keys.
- The Mac disk image opens to a clean window: no scrollbars, no hidden files.
- The first launch after updating rebuilds your Live template. It takes a few minutes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.11 (the arrangement: techno transitions, a clip per section)
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.11 (the arrangement grows up):
- Drums play By section by default. Drums-only intros, fills, the cut before each drop, and now techno's transitions: the kick, bass, open hat and ride sit out the last bar of every section while the closed hats and percussion keep the groove, and the kick drops the last beat of every 16 bars. Looped drums are still one switch away (Drums: Looped).
- A clip per section on every track. Every track in the Arrangement is cut at each section, the way Live's own Split does it, so rearranging is moving, muting or deleting clips. A part only has clips where it plays.
- Your song's stems are cut per section too. Switch it off with Slice stems (song options) to keep each stem one long clip.
- Pads follow the song's chords into every section they play in. Before, a chord held from earlier could leave the pad silent.
- Jobs and song analysis run in their own process: cancelling stops at once and the app stays light.
- The first launch after updating rebuilds your Live template. It takes a few minutes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.10 (ear candy fixes: the kick FX follow your kick)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and Windows (x64). Neither is signed yet:
- Mac: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
- Windows: when Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway. It installs for you only (no admin password).
Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.10 (fixes to alpha.9's ear candy):
- The kick FX follow the kick that actually plays.
- With drums Looped (the default) the kick never stops, so you now get a stutter into every section change and no reverse kicks or tape stops on top of the running kick.
- With drums By section, the reverse kick fills the cut before each drop and the tape stop runs into each kick-less breakdown, as before.
- Cleaner kick FX. They're made at your set's tempo, so Live no longer time-stretches them and the attack stays sharp. A kick sample with silence before its hit works now. Their level matches the kick and never exceeds unity gain.
- Your own template: if it has its own Kick track for stemflow to fill, its kick sound plays, so the kick FX are left out (stemflow says so) instead of not matching it.
- The first launch after updating rebuilds your Live template. It takes a few minutes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.5 (Mac + first Windows alpha)
Mac (Apple Silicon) and, new, Windows (x64).
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.5:
- The first Windows version (Windows 10/11, x64). Its installer has been built, installed and set up on a clean
Windows machine, but it hasn't met many real PCs with Ableton Live yet: if something breaks, Help → Show Logs and
send the logs over. For now it separates songs on the CPU, so a song takes longer than on a Mac. - Mac: no visible changes.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.4 (macOS alpha)
Alpha for macOS (Apple Silicon). Not signed by Apple yet: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once). Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.4:
- The lid's keys get their own colours, apart from the rainbow lights.
stemflow 0.2.0-alpha.3 (macOS alpha)
Alpha for macOS (Apple Silicon). Not signed by Apple yet: after the first launch is blocked, allow it in
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once). Install steps: see the README.
What's new in 0.2.0-alpha.3:
- stemflow now tells you when a newer version is out (Download / Later / Skip This Version), and
Help → Check for Updates asks on demand. Updating still means replacing the app in Applications.
