Networking & Discovery
Discovery
TransportChat advertises and discovers services on the LAN using Android NSD (DNS-SD):
Resolves to a host IP and TCP port.
The app filters out self-advertisements.
If discovery fails (typical on guest or “AP isolation” networks), use Manual Connect:
Enter Host/IP and Port of the remote device.
The port is the remote peer’s listening port (shown under Status on their device).
Multicast
Some networks block multicast DNS. The app acquires a multicast lock (CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE) to improve reliability. If peers still don’t appear, try another network or manual connect.
Tips
Ensure devices are on the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.0.x).
Avoid VPNs or captive portals that isolate clients.
Hotspot with one device can work if both endpoints connect through it.
