mrowserF v0.0.4

Register as a browser, search from the address bar, four more languages, and a fix for OK not submitting on the Android TV keyboard.

✨ Added

  • Registered as a system browser. mrowserF now shows up in the chooser when another app opens an http/https link (launchMode="singleTask" + onNewIntent, so a link opens in the already-running page instead of stacking a second instance). Non-web links — mailto:, market://, intent://, an app's own custom scheme — are handed to whichever app registered for them instead of dead-ending on the WebView's ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME, complete with the security hardening an intent:// URL needs (stripped component/selector/URI-permission grants, so a page can't use the browser as a confused deputy to reach components other apps never exported for links). A toast explains it when nothing on the device can open a link.
  • Address-bar search. Typing something that isn't a URL — "best movies 2026", a bare word — now searches it instead of silently doing nothing. New Search engine setting: Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo.
  • Page zoom. Four text-zoom levels (Small → Extra large) for reading comfortably from a couch instead of a desk.
  • Four more languages. Українська and Русский are joined by Polski, Deutsch, Español, and Français — full UI translations, switch anytime from Settings → Language, applies immediately.

🐛 Fixed

  • OK did nothing on the Android TV on-screen keyboard. The stock Leanback keyboard often doesn't report IME_ACTION_GO when OK is pressed — it sends a raw KEYCODE_ENTER through the same callback instead, with the action left unspecified. Checking only the action ID (as most apps do) made both the home-screen URL field and the address bar look dead on that keyboard specifically, even though a physical keyboard or a webpage's own search box worked fine. Both fields now recognize either signal.
  • D-pad OK didn't open the keyboard at all on any of the app's four text fields (home URL field, address bar, favorite-edit title/URL). D-pad OK on a focused EditText only calls performClick(), which silently no-ops without a listener — unlike a touchscreen tap, Android does not show the keyboard on its own. All four fields now open the keyboard on OK, and the address bar opens it immediately when revealed.

🔧 Changed

  • Settings screen: two new rows (Search engine, Page zoom) alongside the existing ones, still one scrollable list.
  • README.md and CLAUDE.md updated to document the browser registration, search fallback, zoom, and the Leanback-keyboard quirk for future changes.

🧪 Tests

  • New: ExternalSchemePolicyTest, IncomingUrlTest, SearchEngineTest.
  • Extended: AppLanguageTest (4 new locales), UrlNormalizerTest (search fallback), SettingsJsonTest (search engine + zoom round-trip and pre-upgrade defaults).

📦 Installation

mrowserF v0.0.3

@AmakerGame AmakerGame released this 12 Sep 15:30

mrowserF v0.0.3

Rebrand, three new settings, full localization, and a fix for a dead-on-arrival input bug.

⚠️ Breaking change: package ID

The application ID has changed from net.mrowser to com.EdS.mrowserF.

Android treats this as a different app, so this build will not update any earlier install — it installs side-by-side instead.

  1. Uninstall the old net.mrowser build (or leave it — they can coexist).
  2. Install this APK.
  3. Re-add your favorites — favorites, history, and settings are stored per-package and don't carry over automatically.

🐛 Fixed

  • Address bar and URL field didn't respond to OK. Focusing a text field with the D-pad and pressing OK opened nothing — no keyboard, no way to type. Root cause: on Android TV, D-pad OK on an EditText only calls performClick(), which is a no-op without a listener attached; unlike a touchscreen tap, the framework does not auto-show the keyboard. Fixed for all four text fields in the app: the home-screen URL field, the in-browser address bar (which now opens the keyboard the instant it's revealed), and both fields in the favorite-edit dialog.
  • Keyboard is now dismissed properly when the address bar closes or a page loads, instead of lingering on screen.

✨ Added

  • Language setting — System default, Українська, English, or Русский. The full UI is translated for all three; switching applies immediately, no reinstall needed.
  • Desktop site mode — requests a page's desktop layout instead of its mobile/TV one, for sites that hide content or streams behind a stripped-down mobile view. Reloads the current page when toggled.
  • Clear history on exit — optionally wipes browsing history automatically whenever you confirm exiting the app.

🔧 Changed

  • App renamed mrowserF end-to-end — display name, package (com.EdS.mrowserF), Gradle project name, exit-dialog text, and internal identifiers all match now (previously the display name and in-app text still said "mrowser" after the repo/package rename).
  • Settings screen is now scrollable to comfortably fit the new options on any TV resolution.
  • LICENSE updated to add Edytor Studio's copyright alongside the original author's.
  • README.md rewritten in English with a features table, updated FAQ, and install/build instructions; the previous upstream version is preserved at [README_original.md](https://github.com/AmakerGame/mrowserF/releases/new).

🧪 Tests

  • Added unit tests for AppLanguage's locale mapping and for the new Settings fields (language, desktopMode, clearHistoryOnExit), including backward-compatible defaults when loading a settings file written by an older version.

mrowser v0.0.2

A new package identity, three new settings, and full multi-language support.

⚠️ Breaking change: package ID

The application ID has changed from net.mrowser to com.EdS.mrowserF.

Android treats this as a different app, so this build will not update your existing install — it installs side-by-side instead. To move to v1.3.0:

  1. Uninstall the old net.mrowser build (or leave it — they can coexist).
  2. Install this APK.
  3. Re-add your favorites; local data (favorites, history, settings) is stored per-package and does not carry over automatically.

✨ Added

  • Language setting — choose System default, Українська, English, or Русский. The entire UI is fully translated for all three; switching applies immediately, no reinstall needed.
  • Desktop site mode — request the desktop layout of a page instead of its mobile/TV layout, for sites that hide content or streams behind a mobile view. Toggling reloads the current page.
  • Clear history on exit — optionally wipe browsing history automatically whenever you confirm exiting the app, for a clean start next session.

🔧 Changed

  • Package / namespace renamed to com.EdS.mrowserF; applicationId updated to match.
  • Settings screen is now scrollable to comfortably fit the new options on any TV resolution.
  • LICENSE updated to add Edytor Studio's copyright alongside the original author's.
  • README.md rewritten; the previous version is preserved at [README_original.md](https://github.com/AmakerGame/mrowserF/releases/new).
