Release list
Codex for Android 0.162.1-android.2
Codex for Android now installs without npm lifecycle scripts or script-approval warnings from this package.
npm i -g codex-android
codexMissing Termux dependencies are installed automatically when Codex starts. Both launchers already include their Termux interpreter paths. Settings, login and conversations are preserved when upgrading or uninstalling.
Bundled native Codex remains 0.162.1. Normal approvals and the embedded-server default are unchanged. Early access: physical-device acceptance of this release and 16 KB page compatibility remain unverified.
Also updates TLS certificate validation/root bundles and ZIP dependencies after the security gate detected new upstream advisories. Plugin archive extraction strips privileged Unix permission bits.
Codex for Android 0.162.1-android.1
Updates the bundled engine from OpenAI Codex 0.160.0 to Codex 0.162.1, while retaining Android ARM64/Termux compatibility, first-launch setup, the embedded-server default and normal command approvals.
Install or update in Termux:
npm i -g codex-android
codexUse codex-android doctor to check the installation. Shared-storage setup remains optional: codex-android setup storage. Uninstall with npm uninstall -g codex-android; settings, login and conversations are preserved.
The native regression failures were resolved through scoped test reruns and fixture corrections; this is not a claim of a complete native workspace test run. Release publication requires a successful exact-source cloud build and Android 17 testing of its exact package. See validation notes.
Early access: this version still needs physical-phone acceptance. 16 KB compatibility and shared-daemon socket recovery remain unresolved. Codex runs with Termux’s Android permissions and does not automatically obtain root, ADB or Shizuku privileges. Keep development projects in Termux private storage.
Codex for Android 0.160.0-android.6
Install/update with npm i -g codex-android.
New: codex-android doctor (--json supported), optional codex-android setup storage, and an interactive shared-storage warning. Diagnostics use bounded probes and an isolated temporary home; they do not install dependencies or read saved login files. Uninstall removes both commands while preserving settings and conversations.
Includes Rustls 0.23.46 security fixes. Native Codex remains 0.160.0. The exact release artifact passed Android 17/API 37 ARM64 4 KB emulator tests, including blocked-script installation, read-only doctor before setup, native tool execution, session resume and settings-preserving reinstall.
Early access: physical-phone login/approvals/lifecycle, 16 KB compatibility and five historical regression failures remain unresolved. Shizuku/rish documentation is optional; no automatic elevation, socket cleanup, wake locks or notifications. Normal approvals and LICENSE/NOTICE are retained.

Codex for Android 0.160.0-android.5
Install Codex for Android with npm i -g codex-android, then run codex.
This release completes missing Termux dependency setup at first launch, even when npm blocks install scripts. The packaged launcher already has the correct Termux interpreter path. Setup failures show a recovery command and do not require reinstalling. Private settings creation and the embedded-server default remain in place, with normal command approvals unchanged.
Node.js 22+ and ARM64 Termux are required. Install Node first with pkg install nodejs-lts. Project-specific tools such as Python remain optional installs.
Dependency maintenance: updates quinn-proto to 0.11.18 and replaces the archived YAML parser with its maintained Serde Norway fork.
The exact cloud-built android.5 package passed the Android 17 standard 4 KB emulator suite. Earlier wrapper candidates also passed clean Android 14 and Android 17 tests. Coverage includes blocked-script installation, settings-preserving reinstall, shell execution, file patching, session resume, the JavaScript helper and transient network retry. The emulator runner now shows live progress and bounds Termux dependency download stalls.
Early access: physical-phone login, interactive approvals, lifecycle and upgrade acceptance remain pending. 16 KB device compatibility and five retained regression-test failures remain unresolved. The underlying shared-daemon socket recovery issue is still unresolved; the default embedded-server mode avoids it. LICENSE and NOTICE are retained.
Codex for Android — embedded server by default
Codex for Android brings OpenAI Codex to ARM64 Termux on Android 10 or newer.
Plain codex now uses the embedded server automatically, including session resume and fork. This avoids the shared-daemon socket failure reported on Termux. Normal command approvals and sandbox settings are unchanged. The underlying shared-daemon recovery issue remains unresolved; shared daemon operation is experimental on Android.
Install or update inside Termux with Node.js 22 or newer:
npm install -g --allow-scripts=codex-android codex-android@latest
codex login --device-auth
codexThe package-specific script approval lets npm run setup for missing Git, ripgrep, browser-opening tools and CA certificates. The launcher creates its private settings directory automatically and preserves existing settings. You no longer need to add --no-daemon manually.
Early access: the full Linux Android build, security checks, 24 Node tests and 4 packaging tests passed. Acceptance of this default launcher on a physical ARM64 device remains pending. Five retained regression tests remain unresolved. See the validation record.
The package was built and staged on GitHub. The public registry package was downloaded and verified on GitHub. Its attached
archive matches the cloud build checksum and includes a checksum sidecar. Keep projects in Termux's private home directory, and stop running daemons before resetting settings. To verify a downloaded archive:

Codex for Android — first-run setup fix
Codex for Android brings OpenAI Codex to ARM64 Termux on Android 10 or newer.
This release fixes first launch: Codex automatically creates its private settings directory, including a custom CODEX_HOME. Existing settings are preserved. The npm installer now installs missing Git, ripgrep, browser-opening tools and CA certificates through Termux's package manager.
With Node.js 22 or newer installed in Termux, install or update:
npm install -g codex-android@latest
codex login --device-auth
codexNo manual directory creation or Rust build is needed. Install project-specific tools such as Python separately when needed. Keep projects in Termux's private home directory.
Early access: the full Linux Android build, security checks, 14 launcher/installer tests and 4 packaging tests passed. Acceptance of this fix on a physical ARM64 device remains pending; five retained regression tests remain unresolved. See the validation record.
The package was built and staged entirely on GitHub. The public registry archive was downloaded and verified on GitHub; the attached
package has the same SHA-256 as the build, and its checksum is included. Verify a downloaded archive with:
sha256sum -c codex-android-0.160.0-android.3.tgz.sha256Installation guide · npm package · Report an issue

Codex for Android 0.160.0-android.1 (early access)
Codex for Android brings OpenAI Codex to ARM64 Termux on Android 10 or newer.
Early access: This release contains real Android ARM64 binaries, but physical-device acceptance is pending. Authentication, interactive terminal behavior, command execution, MCP, and code-mode still need real-device verification. Five retained desktop/transport tests remain unresolved; see validation.
Published on npm: codex-android@0.160.0-android.1 is available with the latest tag. The public registry download was verified byte for byte against the attached GitHub release tarball.
Install in standard ARM64 Termux with Node 22 or newer:
npm install -g codex-android
codex login --device-auth
codexAll bundled ELF binaries have 16 KiB-aligned load segments. Device execution
remains unverified.
Download size is approximately 147 MB; the installed package occupies approximately
382 MB before caches and session data. Keep it in Termux private storage.
The npm package and attached tarball contain the same bundled runtime: Codex, its code-mode host, C++ runtime, launcher, artwork, and required notices. The checksum sidecar verifies the attached tarball:
