In 2012 The Witcher was ported to Apple computers. It has received over 100 accolades, including prestigious awards from GameSpot, GameSpy and IGN (for the best role playing game). Work on the second installment of The Witcher franchise begin in late 2007. This project also kick started the development of the proprietary RED Engine, later to be ported to multiple hardware platforms. The Witcher 2 was hailed by CD-Action as the most eagerly expected game of 2011. The release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on 17 May 2011 was preceded by the extensive advertising campaign in the history of Polish gaming.

CDPRED, the first of the companies which today belong to the CD PROJEKT Group, was founded in 1994 by Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński. The company, originally named CD Projekt, focused on publishing software on CDs imported from the United States as an authorized distributor of American Laser Games.

In 1996 CDP.pl (then known as CD Projekt) became the first Polish company to release games with Polish manuals and in localized Polish boxes.
