Andronix 2.0.3

Andronix 2.0.3 makes installs succeed more often: package downloads retry and switch mirrors, common package problems are repaired, and small typos are forgiven.

Installs that get through

• Package downloads retry and move to another mirror when a server doesn't answer (Ubuntu, Debian, Kali and Void have verified fallbacks). A refresh where only some sources fail carries on.
• An interrupted dpkg, corrupt package lists, broken dependencies and a wrong phone clock are repaired instead of failing the install.
• When it still fails, the message says what went wrong and what to do.

Commands you type

• Small typos are forgiven: andronix install debia --de xfc installs Debian with XFCE, with a note. remove only suggests a name; it never acts on a guess.
• plasma means KDE Plasma. GNOME, Cinnamon and others say they aren't offered, with the list of desktops.

Already installed

• Installing what's already there isn't an error: the installer offers to keep or replace it, and tells the Andronix app.
• A Modded reinstall with an expired download link stops before deleting anything.

Andronix 2.0.2

Andronix 2.0.2 fixes downloads on phones with an unusual DNS setup, and a command pasted twice.

Downloads

• Downloads work on phones whose DNS setup confused the installer ("lookup … connection refused" at "Finding the best download", seen on a moto g57 power with Android 16). The installer now asks the real nameservers first, tries loopback addresses last, and moves on when a server doesn't answer.

Install

• The app's command pasted twice now runs once, instead of stopping with an unknown desktop (--de xfceexport …).
• The Andronix app hears about the install result more reliably.

Reporting a problem

• andronix report sends a problem report to Andronix support: the last failed step, its error and log, with tokens, links, email addresses and user names removed. It shows everything before sending. andronix report --help lists what's sent.

Smaller fixes

• Text wraps cleanly on narrow phone screens, and commands are never split.
• andronix update keeps a Modded XFCE image's panel plugins working after a package update.

Andronix 2.0.1

Andronix 2.0.1 makes desktops work on more phones, and makes Firefox play video and sound.

Works on more phones

• The installer checks what your phone's kernel and Termux can do, and applies the fixes that phone needs. andronix doctor shows what it found.
• Kali (and other systemd 256+ distros) now install on kernels before 5.8. This covers many phones from 2018 to 2020.
• An install that stopped part way finishes when you run andronix install <distro> again, even one started by 2.0.0.
• Kernels before 4.8 (many Android 8 and 9 phones): the command line works. The installer now says clearly that desktops can't run there.

Desktop

• Termux:X11 first: andronix desktop <distro> opens the desktop in the Termux:X11 app.
• Fewer background processes, so Android 12+ stops the desktop less often ("signal 9").
• Firefox plays video and sound on every distro: H.264, VP9, AAC, Opus and MP3. On andronix update, the video codecs are installed as well.
• A fix for Firefox's pages going blank on some phones (Ubuntu's Firefox 156).
• XFCE's Web Browser button opens Firefox. Wallpapers fit portrait screens.

App and downloads

• The Andronix app is notified when an install finishes or fails.
• Downloads resolve through the Andronix API first, and fall back to dl.andronix.app. Every download is checked against its sha256, Modded editions included.
• A finished install deletes its download. andronix clean empties the download cache.
• andronix remove <edition-id> --legacy removes a single Modded or Classic edition.
• The installer never replaces itself with an older version.

Premium

• Beta channel: andronix update --channel beta --token '<token from the app>'.
• Early-access Modded editions for Premium and Modded Pass owners.
