Architecture
My application focuses on using the sms-plugin and the translatr.org API incorporated together to send an SMS message in a translated language selected by the user. The user opens the application to which then they are greeted with a Splash-screen followed by the main page. Here they will be able to begin using the app, firstly they enter the number, then the language and then the message.
A small feature I added is that the message cannot be sent unless a 10 digit number and a message have been included. The user must be connected to the internet in order to call the API and get the translated text and also have free-texts or credit in their phone or else the SMS will not send. The main features of the application are done in the app.js file. The include the HTTP get request for the API, the code to send the SMS and also the SQLite database which I have created a table, but unfortunately I couldn't get it to fully work, it create the database and table but would not enter any values so therefore the table would be empty.
An Application Programming Interface, is a way of two software programs being able to communicate with each other. For E.G In my application I send a get request to the url http://www.transltr.org/api/translate it is done in json and looks for parameters such as text, to, and from. So in my application I have each parameter set such as sms.number & sms.message and the default language set to English. The sms.number and sms.message are used as ng-model components which bind the values of html controls to application data.
In computing, a plugin is a software component that adds a specific feature to an existing computer program. When a program supports plugins, it enables customization. Applications support plugins for many of reasons such as: enabling third-party developers to create abilities which extend an application or to reduce the size of an application.
SQLite is a relational database management system contained in a C programming library. In contrast to many other database management systems, SQLite is not a client–server database engine. Rather, it is embedded into the end program. The code for SQLite is in the public domain and is free for use for any purpose, commercial or private. When creating my application I decided to try and work with SQLite as cordova had a plugin for it, I created a database called "my.db" it created a database and table but I ran into a problem when trying to insert value it kept coming back with an empty table, Which admittedly began to frustrate me and I was unable to find a solution so I left the application without a database.
