Append HMI Web 1.3.2

@dhunt84971 dhunt84971 released this 05 Oct 12:42

Fixes

  • Pointer hand: in running applications, the mouse pointer is the pointing hand only over objects that respond to a touch (pushbuttons, action scripts, user input, show and hide window, sliders) and are currently enabled. It is the arrow everywhere else.
  • No text selection: text on a running application's screen can no longer be selected.
  • White start-up screen: the start-up screen always has a white background, so the Append Automation logo shows on dark themes too.

Append HMI Web 1.3.0

@dhunt84971 dhunt84971 released this 04 Oct 15:02

What's new

Applications run as in Append HMI Studio 1.2.0:

  • Indirect tags (IndirectDiscrete, IndirectAnalog, IndirectMessage) and LinkIndirectTag("Indirect", "Tag"), so one faceplate can serve many devices. Each browser keeps its own links.
  • ShowWindow(name[, left, top[, modal[, wait]]]) opens a window from a script: moved, modal or not, and optionally waiting until it closes.
  • Fixes: scripts now read tags that no object on their window shows, and touches pass through objects hidden by a Visibility link to the object beneath.

What's new

Recipes from Append HMI Studio 1.1.0 work in Append HMI Web:

  • recipe books;
  • the recipe script functions, including ShowRecipeSelect;
  • the Recipe List object;
  • the Recipe Error window.

In the browser:

  • Shared by every browser: saved recipes are kept on the server, in recipes/<application>.json in the Append HMI Web settings folder. A recipe saved in one browser appears in the others within a few seconds. Saving merges, so browsers never overwrite each other's recipes.
  • Files in the browser: RecipeExport downloads the CSV file, and RecipeImport opens the browser's file picker.

Applications run as in Studio 1.1.0, including its fixes: an empty memory message tag now starts empty instead of 0.

What's new

Stop and restart web servers from the launcher. The launcher's Running list now shows every Append HMI Web server on the computer, including ones started separately with --headless (marked in the background). For each:

  • the application, its file, its port and how many browsers are connected;
  • Restart: starts it again with the same settings and reads the .ahmi file afresh. Use it after saving changes in Append HMI Studio; connected browsers reload by themselves;
  • Stop: stops it. A background process exits once its last server stops.

Closing the launcher stops only its own servers; background servers keep running.

Other addresses of each server are folded away under Other addresses, so several servers fit in the window.

Fixes

  • Start button: shows Running whenever any server already serves the selected application with the chosen settings, including one running in the background.
  • Start-up errors: an error starting a server from the command line (for example, the port already in use) now appears in the launcher, instead of being lost when it happened before the window opened.

How it works

  • Server records: each server records itself in servers/ in the Append HMI Web settings folder, with a random token readable only by your user account.
  • Control address: Stop and Restart reach a server through its control address (/hmi-web/control), which accepts only requests from the same computer that carry the token.

Servers started by version 1.0.0 do not record themselves, so they are not listed. Stop them once (Task Manager, or kill) after updating.

Append HMI Web 1.0.0

@dhunt84971 dhunt84971 released this 28 Sep 16:51

The first release of Append HMI Web: it serves HMI applications (.ahmi) made with Append HMI Studio to any web browser on the plant network, with live PLC data and nothing to install on the viewing side.

Features

  • Command line: append-hmi-web project.ahmi starts the project's web server.
    • --port (default 8480), --view fit|fill|original and --local-only set it up.
    • --headless runs it without a window, for a service.
  • Launcher window when started without a project:
    • pick an .ahmi file;
    • set the port and the browsers' starting view;
    • allow or refuse other computers;
    • Start web server, or create a desktop shortcut or menu entry that starts it with those settings.
  • The link: shown as soon as the server runs, with Copy and Open, the PC's other addresses, and how many browsers are connected.
  • Views in the browser, from a small button in the corner:
    • Fit to window (proportions kept);
    • Maximize (stretched to fill);
    • Original size (1:1 with scroll bars);
    • Full screen.
    • Each browser remembers its choice.
  • Everything Studio's Run does:
    • live PLC data (EtherNet/IP ControlLogix/CompactLogix, SLC 5/05 and MicroLogix, Modbus TCP, simulator);
    • alarms, retentive tags;
    • users and access levels (per browser).
  • Shared on the server:
    • one alarm history per project, with each real change written once however many browsers are open;
    • retentive values;
    • runtime user changes.
  • Reconnects: if the server stops, browsers show "Connection lost" and reload by themselves when it returns.
  • Several projects at once, each on its own port.
  • Tested in Chrome and Firefox.

Downloads

File Platform
Append-HMI-Web-1.0.0-Setup.exe Windows 10/11 x64, installs for all users (silent: /S). Adds a Windows Firewall rule for private and domain networks
Append-HMI-Web-1.0.0-x86_64.AppImage Linux x64, runs without installing
Append-HMI-Web-1.0.0-amd64.deb Debian/Ubuntu (sudo apt install ./Append-HMI-Web-1.0.0-amd64.deb)

Security

  • Who can connect: anyone who can reach the port can operate the HMI, as anyone at a panel could. Protect controls with the project's users and access levels, or serve this PC only (--local-only).
  • Network: plain HTTP, meant for the plant network, not the internet.
  • What's served: only the files the HMI page needs, and the page's WebSocket accepts only the server's own page.

Known issues

  • The installers are not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen asks for confirmation on first run.
  • There is no automatic update. Install new versions over the old one.
  • Alarm acknowledgements and logins are per browser.
  • Projects with the same file name in different folders share their alarm history, retentive values and runtime users.
