Using the Character Sheet's Hirelings Tab

Hirelings can be Henchmen, Specialists, or Mercenaries.

  • To use Hirelings, you need at least 2 actors.
  • One actor acts as the "Employer".
  • One (or more) other actors can become Hirelings for that Employer.

Creating the Hireling / Employer Relationship

Create a new Actor that can be a Hireling Character

  1. Navigate to the Actors tab, and click Create Actor
  2. Enter a Name, select Type = “Character”, and optionally choose a folder to put the new actor into
  3. Click the “Create New Actor” button, and confirm that the character sheet for this actor appears
  4. You can fill out the rest of the character sheet now - by following the steps to generate this character’s attributes, saving throws, and other stats - or you can do it later.
  5. On your player character’s sheet, click the “Prototype Token” button, and ensure that the “Link Actor Data” checkbox is checked.
  6. Click “Update Token” on the bottom of the prototype token sheet to be taken back to your player character’s character sheet.
  7. Open the Tweaks window, and check the box for “Hireling” (additionally, for actual play the value for Experience Share should be set at 50% for Henchmen). See Character Creation - Tweaks
  8. Click "Save Changes" to close the Tweaks dialog and return to the character sheet
  9. Enter a number for Wage for this hireling
  10. Select Henchman, Specialist, or Mercenary for the Category value on the character sheet, as appropriate.
  11. Close the hireling's character sheet.

Assigning Hirelings to a Character

  1. Open your main character sheet, the one for the actor that will become the Employer of the new hireling you just made.
  2. You should only see your character’s sheet open now, the player character who will be receiving this new hireling character.
  3. On your player character’s sheet, click the “Prototype Token” button, and ensure that the “Link Actor Data” checkbox is checked.
  4. Click “Update Token” on the bottom of the prototype token sheet to be taken back to your player character’s character sheet.
  5. Click the Hirelings tab on the right side of this character sheet, and you should see the table displayed for hirelings (it should currently be empty).
  6. From the Actor tab on the right side of the screen, drag the hireling actor from the actor list to your player character’s character sheet.
  7. If a window prompts you to assign the hireling to the actor, you should select Yes.
  8. A new line item will be added to the player character sheet, with a quantity, name, class, loyalty, morale, wage, level, XP, and XP to Next Level values

Paying Wages

We've added the concept of "paying wages" as a convenience to make it easier to pay for your hirelings' monthly wages. It's a straightforward mechanism that deducts the total wages from your current money every time you click Pay Wages. The intent is to enable easily tracking and deducting the monthly wages for your hirelings.

There are several aspects to paying wages, as viewed from the perspective of the "employer" who needs to pay monthly wages for their hirelings:

  • The total wages of all the character's hirelings is summed up and displayed at the top of the Hirelings tab.
  • The amount of money the character has is displayed at the top of the Hirelings tab.
  • A "quantity" field is displayed for each hirelings line. This is only a convenience to help you track the total cost if you have, for example, 10 guards and want a total monthly wage for all guards. This quantity is not related to how many in-game actors exist. It's purely for record-keeping.
  • Each time it's activated, the Pay Wages button will deduct the total wages from your current funds (gold).

To pay wages:

  1. In the Total Wages field above the list of hirelings, a value should display for the sum of all the wages for hirelings the character employs
  2. Make sure your character has enough money in their inventory, and click the “Pay Wages” button to the right of Available Money
  3. You should see the Available Money decrease by the amount of total wages

If you have insufficient funds when you select Pay Wages, the system will display a pop up that says "Not Enough Money!"
