v3.9.0-rc.8 — test build: the tablet in English in Home Assistant, two-screen push fix
An eighth test build after v3.9.0-rc.7, shared in case it helps. The main news: Home Assistant now shows the tablet in English (entity names, menu options, the « Tab5 · » lists), asked for in discussion #278 and on the Home Assistant forum. Like the rest of the project, it was made with the help of AI. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
New:
- The tablet's entities in English in Home Assistant (#540): the Tab5 integration offers a repair, « Tab5: switch the entities to their English names ». One click gives the tablet's entities that had a French name, or a doubled « Tab5 », an English ID and name (
switch.tab5_reveil→switch.tab5_alarm,sensor.tab5_tab5_uptime→sensor.tab5_uptime, « Thème » → « Theme »). History and statistics follow the new ID. An ID or a name you chose yourself is kept. The firmware keeps its own names, so the tablet keeps all its settings. - Menu options and text states in English (#541): the options of the tablet's menus (« Never, On battery, Always », « Fixed time », « Upside down »…) and its text sensors are in English in Home Assistant. The screen itself does not change: it still follows its own language setting.
- The « Tab5 · » lists and helpers of the packages in English (#542): names and options (« All », « Home Assistant only », « Yes » / « No », « Yellow »…), and « Not set » for a list where nothing is chosen. No ID changes on the package side. The integration puts back the option you had chosen, translated.
- Dashboard with several tablets:
tab5_dashboard('dashboard-tab5', appareil='<device name>')picks the tablet to show (#542).
Fixed:
- Two screens: the one that restarts gets its full push again (#543): with two tablets on, the full push asked for by a tablet that had just restarted was refused, because the check looked at the other tablet. The restarted screen stayed without alerts and planning until the 10-minute pass.
- The firmware builds with ESPHome 2026.10.0 (#535). The published firmware is still built with ESPHome 2026.9.0.
Documentation:
- The user docs now cite the entities and options as Home Assistant shows them (#546).
- HACS 2.0.5 « Got more than 8190 bytes when reading »: the integration download fails because of a HACS bug; wait for its fix or install the zip of the release by hand (#539).
- « No port in the list » on the install page: unplug, hold the download button, plug in again (#538).
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.7:
- Home Assistant files together with the integration (HACS update, or the files of
tab5_home_assistant.zipandtab5_hacs.zip). Without the integration, a list whose chosen option changed language takes its first option back when the files are reloaded. - Firmware, in any order: from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel.
- Then accept the repair « Tab5: switch the entities to their English names » (Settings → System → Repairs). Before it, the entities keep their old names; everything still works.
- Your own dashboards and automations that name these entities, or that test a state or an option (
"Aucun",'Oui',"Heure fixe"…), need updating. The Tab5 packages, blueprint and dashboard template understand both the old and the new names.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.6 or older: follow the notes of the rc in between first.
Known limits:
- Tried on the author's Home Assistant (2026.10.2, two tablets): 206 entities switched in one click, history kept, the tablet's settings unchanged, the Waveshare 7B updated with the English options. Not tried on a Tab5 with the published firmware.
- Sensor states that the tablet and the packages read as codes, the « Tab5 · alerte » label, script descriptions and notifications stay in French.
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.7.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<variant>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update) and manifest-<variant>.json for the three Tab5 display revisions and waveshare-7b, all signed with the project key; tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).

v3.9.0-rc.7 — test build: up to 20 devices per room, 7B screen direction, 80 % charge limit fix
A seventh test build after v3.9.0-rc.6, shared in case it helps. The main news: up to twenty devices per room on the screen, the screen direction of the Waveshare 7B chosen in Home Assistant, and a fix for the 80 % charge limit. Like the rest of the project, it was made with the help of AI. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
New:
- Up to twenty devices per room (#517): up to five devices, nothing changes. From six to twenty, the five places of the bottom row stay and the last ones are cut: in two (top / bottom), then in four. The first devices of the blueprint's list keep the whole tiles. Each half or quarter is its own button: tap and long press do what they do on a whole tile of the same type. The Lights, Shutters and House popups take several pages for a room with more than five rows. The « Tab5 — emplacements » blueprint already sends up to twenty devices per room since rc.6.
- Waveshare 7B: screen direction chosen in Home Assistant (#530): a new device setting « Sens de l'écran » (Normal / Retourné), in the Configuration card of the device page. « Retourné », for a board mounted upside down, turns the picture by 180° more, at once and without a restart; touch follows, and the choice is kept across restarts and updates. A board mounted upside down can now run the published firmware and get its updates from the « Firmware » entity. Do not combine it with a firmware built with
-s carte_rotation 0: the picture would turn twice. - Waveshare 7B: the microphone on the MIC1 input (#532), as in Waveshare's own demo. On the author's 7B with Home Assistant Cloud speech-to-text: 22 % → 9 % word errors, and 20 wake-ups out of 20 instead of 16 (20 tries each). The Tab5 does not change.
Fixed:
- 80 % charge limit (#533, reported in discussion #278): every 10 minutes the charger stops for 8 seconds to read the battery voltage. With « Tab5 Limite de charge » on 80 %, that short pause counted as a stop of the limit, so between 70 and 80 % the charge stopped wherever the level was. Now the charge resumes right after the pause, stops at 80 % and starts again at 70 %, as intended. On 100 %, nothing changes.
- More than eight climates (#528): in a home with more than eight air conditioners, the − / + tile and the temperature wheel of a room near the end of the list fell back to the blueprint's climate. Each room now finds its own.
- Home Assistant in French (#531): two messages of the HACS integration and the shortcut of the Health view of the tablet's dashboard said « Réparations »; Home Assistant calls this page « Corrections » (« Repairs » in English).
Documentation:
- A tablet already known to Home Assistant and reinstalled with erase waits for a confirmation in Home Assistant: its card under « Discovered », « Reconfigure », then « Submit » (#529, installation guide).
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.6:
- Firmware and Home Assistant files can be updated in any order.
- Firmware: from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel. On the first start of this firmware, the rooms come back when Home Assistant sends their definitions again (at each connection).
- Home Assistant: copy the files of
tab5_home_assistant.zip(or update through HACS). Onlycustom_templates/tab5_dashboard.jinjaand the integration change: reloadcustom_templates, then regenerate the tablet's dashboard if you use it, to see « Sens de l'écran » and the new name of the Repairs page.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.5 or older: follow the notes of the rc in between first.
Known limits:
- Nothing in this list was tried on a Tab5: the author's Tab5 is still away for repair.
- The cut tiles (#517) and the climates fix (#528) were checked on the off-device render and by tests on a PC.
- The charge limit fix (#533) was tested on a PC only: the author has no battery.
- The screen direction (#530) was tried on the author's 7B: changed at once, and kept after a restart. The 7B firmware from the install page itself was not tried on a real board yet. If you try it, please say how it went in Discussions → Hardware compatibility.
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.6.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<variant>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update) and manifest-<variant>.json for the three Tab5 display revisions and waveshare-7b, all signed with the project key; tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).

v3.9.0-rc.6 — test build: Waveshare 7B from the browser, whole-home music, up to 10 rooms
A sixth test build after v3.9.0-rc.5, shared in case it helps. The main news: the Waveshare ESP32-P4 7B now installs from the browser, like a Tab5. It also brings music for the whole home through Music Assistant and up to ten rooms. Like the rest of the project, it was made with the help of AI. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
Waveshare ESP32-P4 7B from the browser (#525):
- The install page now offers « Waveshare ESP32-P4 7B » (7-inch, 1024×600, experimental), in the Beta channel until the next stable one. Plug in the USB-C port of its ESP32-P4; the rest is as for a Tab5. Nothing to compile any more.
- This firmware is built and signed by the project with ESPHome 2026.9.1, for a board mounted the usual way, without the games. Its updates then come from Home Assistant, from the 7B's own folder of the site.
- The Tab5 firmware does not change: still built with ESPHome 2026.9.0, same configuration as before.
- A board mounted upside down, or with the games, still needs its own build (Waveshare 7B).
New:
- Music for the whole home, through Music Assistant (#523): the Music popup gets a « Pièces » page (rooms: one card per player, volume, grouping, « play here ») and a « Bibliothèque » page (library: favourites, playlists, albums, artists, radios, podcasts, recent items, with covers). Music Assistant is optional: without it, the « Pièces » page lists the players you picked, with volume, mute and power. Needs the new Home Assistant package
tab5_musique.yaml. - Favourite playlists (#515): a « Playlists » page in the Music popup; a tap starts one of your YouTube or YouTube Music playlists on your Apple TV.
- From 1 to 10 rooms on the screen (#518, #516): the number of rooms is chosen in the « Tab5 — emplacements » blueprint (« Nombre de pièces »). Still five devices per room on the screen for now.
- The games are an optional module (#513): always in the Tab5 firmware, left out by default on the 7B, which has no motion sensor.
- Rooms scroll as a loop in devices mode (#511, reported in discussion #278), and the centre card shows the room's name alone (#518).
Fixed on the Waveshare 7B:
- Home screen: the climate, the temperatures and the centre card centred again (#512).
- Calendar and Settings back inside their card (#520); the remote, Assistant, Shutters and Lights keys and texts back inside their buttons (#521).
- The « Balance » page of the Energy popup now fits the screen, « 00:00 » under the sun graph is no longer cut, and the Weather « Today » page shows 12 hours instead of 15 so hours and rain no longer touch (#522). The Tab5 is unchanged, pixel for pixel on the render.
- These layout fixes were checked on the off-device render at 1024×600.
- The bottom of the volume slider is raised (#523,
volume_min: 40%): about −44 dB instead of −76 dB, which was silent.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.5:
- Firmware first: from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel.
- Then Home Assistant: copy the files of
tab5_home_assistant.zip(or update through HACS), with the newpackages/tab5_musique.yamlandcustom_templates/tab5_musique.jinja; reloadcustom_templatesfirst, then the packages and the blueprint.
With the new Home Assistant files and an older firmware, the music pushes fail without stopping anything else; with the old files, the new firmware simply shows no « Pièces » or « Bibliothèque » page.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.4 or older: follow the notes of the rc in between first.
Known limits:
- Nothing in this list was tried on a Tab5: the author's Tab5 is still away for repair. The rooms and music changes run on the author's 7B; the 7B layout fixes were checked on the off-device render.
- The 7B firmware from the install page was not tried on a real board yet (the author's board runs a firmware built on a PC). If you try it, please say how it went in Discussions → Hardware compatibility.
- On the 7B, « Close all » in the Shutters popup runs past its button in German and Turkish, and the low end of the volume was not judged by ear.
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.5.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<variant>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update) and manifest-<variant>.json for the three Tab5 display revisions and now waveshare-7b, all signed with the project key; tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).

v3.9.0-rc.5 — test build: faster theme switch and screen updates, _2 entities recognised
A fifth test build after v3.9.0-rc.4, shared in case it helps. It is mostly about speed (theme switch, two popups, screen updates) and about a screen whose Home Assistant entities end in _2. Like the rest of the project, it was made with the help of AI. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
Faster:
- Changing the theme or light / dark mode no longer freezes the screen for most of a second (#501), the Auto day / night switch included. On the Waveshare 7B, once every screen had been opened once: 761 → 65 ms for a theme change, 675 → 10 ms for light ↔ dark. Nothing else changes in what you see.
- The Music popup opens about twice as fast, same picture (#500): 104 → 49 ms in Zen Sumi, 130 → 76 ms in Relief doux on the 7B. The dashboard dimmed around its card is no longer redrawn under the card.
- The calendar's day detail opens faster, same picture (#504), by the same means. Measured on the off-device render only (half the work in Zen Sumi), not on a device.
- Each screen update costs less, mostly while Home Assistant pushes data (#505): a closed popup is now parked off the screen, so LVGL no longer walks through its objects after every change. On the off-device render at 1024×600 with every screen opened once (CPU time): two full Home Assistant pushes −56 %, swiping the forecast −58 %, 20 s of idle with the centre card turning −44 %; same picture. Flashed on the 7B (no reboot, no entity lost), but its « Loop Time » sensor does not show the gain (a push is spread over many short loops).
- Waveshare 7B: boot 1 s faster (#502): first picture at 4.8 s instead of 5.9 s. The Tab5 keeps its 1 s wait, which its display reset needs.
Fixed (Home Assistant):
- A screen whose entities end in
_2is recognised everywhere (#506, #508). Home Assistant adds_2when an entity ID is already taken: a second screen, or a screen that replaces one still registered. The packages, the blueprint and the dashboard looked for the exact name, so such a screen was only half found: the screen no longer turned on / off with presence or the phone, the unexpected-reboot guard stayed silent, and dashboard tiles were missing. Seen on the author's 7B, and checked there after the fix. - Multi-choice lists show each sensor's name before its ID (#507): « Tab5 · réfrigérateurs », « Tab5 · congélateurs », « Tab5 · capteurs suivis », « Tab5 · lecteurs de musique » no longer show only
sensor.0xa4c1…. Choices already made are kept. The empty Fridges and freezers window now gives the Home Assistant menu path to follow.
Docs: the measurements of a night on the Waveshare 7B (every screen and theme, power at the USB input, restarts, a night left alone) are in the performance and consumption pages (#499).
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.4:
- Home Assistant: copy the files of
tab5_home_assistant.zip(or update through HACS), reloadcustom_templatesfirst, then the packages and the blueprint. - Firmware: from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel.
- Optional: regenerate the Home Assistant dashboard if your tablet's entities end in
_2(the missing tiles come back).
Firmware and Home Assistant files work together in either order.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.3 or older: follow the notes of the rc in between first.
Known limits:
- Nothing in this list was tried on a Tab5: the author's Tab5 is still away for repair. The theme, Music and boot figures and the
_2fix were seen on the Waveshare 7B; the calendar day detail and the parked popups were measured on the off-device render only. - The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.4.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update), manifest-<revision>.json, all signed with the project key, tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).

v3.9.0-rc.4 — test build: camera pictures, charger probe, screen off at night, faster boot
A fourth test build after v3.9.0-rc.3. It is bigger than the last one: several fixes came from the logs and photos in discussion #278 (thanks @husyildiz), and a second board was added. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
Fixed:
- A shutter of the « − / + » tile that is no room's tile now opens its wheel (#475): Open / Stop / Close, plus Position when it can be set. You reported that touching its value did nothing; only − / + worked.
- Camera pictures and music covers drawn again when shrunk or pressed (#491). Your log had 306 lines of
Color format 0x12 is not enabled, one burst per tap on a thumbnail: LVGL could not shrink or darken an RGB565 picture with rounded corners and drew an empty buffer instead. The missing LVGL option is now on. Checked with the off-device render (no more warning); not tried on a Tab5 yet. - Charger: never charges into nothing (#489). The charger stays off until the voltage, read with the charger off, shows a battery (5.5 V or more). A thermal lock is kept across reboots, and a new electrical lock cuts the charger above 8.45 V or with no charge current for 30 s. A new « Tab5 Sécurité chargeur » sensor and a Home Assistant notification tell you when a lock is set. Not tried on a tablet (the author's Tab5 is away for repair).
- Every software reboot is now a full core reset (#486): same fix as the boot loop of the second board below, for the Tab5's Wi-Fi link. Not tried on a Tab5.
- Screen data back after a reboot even when another tool connects first (#495): the event that makes Home Assistant push everything is now sent to Home Assistant only, once it listens.
- Several screens: the connection push no longer goes to a wrong name right after a reboot (#481).
- « Tab5 — day/night theme »: no more « Not connected » error while the tablet is being added to Home Assistant (#496).
Added:
- Screen off = black panel, and a night screen-off (#490, ADR-0064). When the screen turns off, a black veil covers it, so the last picture no longer stays on the panel for hours. A new « Tab5 · extinction de nuit » list (00:00-06:00 proposed) turns the screen off after 1 min without a touch during that window. A brand-new install starts at 75 % brightness.
- Faster boot with a loading bar (#476, #478). The screen shows a loading bar as soon as the panel is ready, and the interface is built much faster: on the second board, first picture at 5.6 s instead of 20.7 s. The weather of the last boot is shown from the first picture (#480). Not measured on a Tab5 yet.
- Several screens in the same home (#479, ADR-0063): each push goes to every connected tablet. A tablet already installed does not change.
- A second board, experimental: Waveshare ESP32-P4 7B (1024×600), see its page. Built from source only, no binary in this release. Since its page went up: no more C6 version request that froze the screen for 1 s (#494), and the speaker no longer saturates at full volume (#497).
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.3:
- Home Assistant: copy the files of
tab5_home_assistant.zip(or update through HACS), reloadcustom_templatesfirst, then the packages and the blueprint. - Firmware: from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel.
- Optional: regenerate the Home Assistant dashboard to see the « Extinction de nuit » and charger cards.
Firmware and Home Assistant files work together in either order.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.2 or older: follow the notes of the rc in between first.
Known limits:
- Nothing in this list was tried on a Tab5: the author's Tab5 is away for repair. What a second board can show (boot, screen off, reboots, connection push) was tried on the Waveshare 7B; the charger and the Tab5 panels were not.
- The Tab5's three panels only get the black veil when the screen is off (no panel sleep command yet).
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.3.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update), manifest-<revision>.json, all signed with the project key, tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).
Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md, section « Unreleased ».
v3.9.0-rc.3 — test build: battery curve measured on a Tab5
A third test build after v3.9.0-rc.2, with one change, from the measurements in discussion #278 (thanks @husyildiz). This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
Fixed:
- Battery level from a discharge curve measured on a Tab5 (#473). The curve of rc.2 came from another battery: on a steady 1.2 W load, the level stayed at 85 % for hours, then fell from 58 % to 7 % in two hours. The new curve was measured on the original battery of a user's Tab5, over two full discharges at a constant load with the screen off (about 13 h 20 min each). It was read from Home Assistant's history, and the second night matched the first within 5 minutes. Some values: 8.2 V = 97 %, 8.0 V = 62 %, 7.8 V = 47 %, 7.6 V = 18 %, 7.4 V = 7 %. The low-battery warnings (20 % and 10 %) now come at about 7.63 V and 7.44 V, and the energy saving « low battery » mode at about 7.72 V.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.2: only the firmware, from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel. Nothing to change in Home Assistant.
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.1 or 3.8.x: follow the notes of v3.9.0-rc.2 (firmware first, then packages/tab5_energie.yaml and the blueprint).
Known limits:
- Only one battery has been measured, at room temperature and with the screen off. With the screen on, the voltage sags a little more and the level reads a little low.
- Around 8.0 V (62 to 81 %), the battery voltage is very flat and is published in 50 mV steps, so the level can still jump by about 20 % at once.
- Not tried on the author's tablet, which has no battery.
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.2.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update), manifest-<revision>.json, all signed with the project key, tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).
Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md, section « Unreleased ».
v3.9.0-rc.2 — test build: kWh balance, battery curve, − / + tile fix
A second test build after v3.9.0-rc.1, mostly from the feedback in discussion #278 (thanks @husyildiz). This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
Changed:
- Energy popup, « Balance » page in kWh (#465, ADR-0062): it now works with only the solar production and the home consumption, for monthly net metering. A « grid battery » card shows how many kWh you are ahead of or behind the grid this calendar month, with an estimate for the end of the month (pace of the last 7 days), produced and consumed energy, and the share of your consumption covered by the sun. The chart shows the net per hour, per day of the month and per month of the year, with its running total. Money is shown only if you set a price. New optional blueprint input: « Énergie consommée par la maison · Home energy consumption ». Without import and export meters, Home Assistant estimates them hour by hour, and the screen says so.
Fixed:
- Battery level follows a lithium-ion discharge curve (#468): the level was a straight line from the voltage (6.0 V = 0 %, 8.23 V = 100 %), so it went from 100 % to about 65 % in 11 hours and then to 0 % in about one hour. It now follows a published Li-ion curve (not measured on the Tab5's own battery): 7.4 V now reads about 19 % instead of 63 %. The low-battery warnings (20 % and 10 %) come earlier, and the energy saving mode now leaves « low battery » at 60 % instead of 40 %, so it does not flicker on the voltage plateau.
- The − / + tile under the clock (#471): in a room with its own air conditioner, the tile stayed on that air conditioner and picking another device in its long-press list did nothing. Now the « Climate » line means the air conditioner of the room shown (only one in the house: that one everywhere; several: the room's own, else the main one), and a device you pick is kept in every room. The main air conditioner now shows its « ° » too.
- « Relief doux » dark theme: the bottom of the cards inside popups blended into the popup and looked cut off; it is visible again (#467).
Upgrading from 3.9.0-rc.1 or 3.8.x — this time the order matters:
- The firmware first, from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel. An older firmware does not understand the new Balance views.
- Then, from
tab5_home_assistant.zip(or the HACS integration):packages/tab5_energie.yamland the blueprintblueprints/automation/tab5/tab5_emplacements.yaml. Reload the automations (or restart Home Assistant). - Optional: in the blueprint, pick your home consumption sensor in « Énergie consommée par la maison · Home energy consumption ».
Upgrading from an earlier version: follow the notes of v3.8.0 first, then the steps above.
Known limits:
- Not tried yet on a tablet running on its battery (the author's tablet has none): the new battery curve, the warnings and the energy saving thresholds need a real discharge. Feedback welcome.
- The kWh balance has only been checked with demo data, not with a real solar installation yet.
- The rest is as in 3.9.0-rc.1.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update), manifest-<revision>.json, all signed with the project key, tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).
Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md, section « Unreleased ».
v3.9.0-rc.1 — test build: screen auto-off on battery only
A small test build after v3.8.1, with one change only. This pre-release is on the beta channel: Home Assistant only offers it to a tablet installed from the beta channel.
New:
- Screen auto-off on battery only (#463, asked in discussion #278): a new switch, « Tab5 Extinction auto sur batterie seulement », off by default. When it is on, the delay of « Tab5 Extinction auto de l'écran » only applies while the tablet runs on its battery; plugged in, the screen stays on. With « 5 min », a tablet carried around the house goes from 1.74 W to 1.23 W while nobody looks at it (measured by @husyildiz, Power consumption).
Upgrading from 3.8.1:
- The firmware, from the « Firmware » entity of a tablet on the beta channel. The contract between Home Assistant and the firmware has not changed: the order does not matter.
- Optional: copy
custom_templates/tab5_dashboard.jinjafromtab5_home_assistant.zip(or update the HACS integration), reload the custom Jinja templates and write the dashboard again (step 7 of the install guide) to see the new switch there. Without it, the switch is in the tablet's device page in Home Assistant. - Then pick « 5 min » in « Tab5 Extinction auto de l'écran » and turn the new switch on.
Upgrading from an earlier version: follow the notes of v3.8.0 first, then the steps above.
Known limits:
- Not tried yet on a tablet running on its battery: the author's tablet has no battery. Feedback welcome.
- The rest is as in 3.8.1.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update), manifest-<revision>.json, all signed with the project key, tab5_home_assistant.zip, and tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).

- Seuil rehausse a 5,5 V (

v3.8.0 — Music, cameras, tracking, fridges, an AI server popup, energy in pages
Seventy-seven pull requests from 7 to 10 October (#377 → #454, without #398, closed), four of them pre-releases (#380, #403, #406, #433) and three from Dependabot, plus this release (#455). Four were born from discussion #278 (#379, #429, #444, #451) — thank you, @husyildiz, for the consumption test and the screenshot of your Energy dashboard.
A word of honesty first: this stable comes three days after 3.7.0, at the author's request, instead of the usual two weeks between two stables. Twenty-two of these pull requests (#429, #434 → #454) arrived after v3.8.0-rc.4 and went through no pre-release. Many of the new screens have only been seen in the off-device render, not on the tablet — see « Known issues ».
New popups
- Music (#430, #436, ADR-0050): a player for any
media_player, with a small « now playing » bar on the home screen. - Cameras (#429, #439, #440, #446, #447, #449, ADR-0049, ADR-0057): one still image per camera, grouped by room, in a mosaic, downloaded and decoded off the main loop.
- Tracking (#438, ADR-0054): the curves of the sensors you pick in Home Assistant.
- Fridges and freezers (#441, ADR-0055): temperature norms, a door left open, alerts and, at the serious level, a blinking icon on the clock.
- AI server (#450, #453, ADR-0059, ADR-0060): a dashboard for a local LLM server (speed, VRAM, GPU temperature, RAM, power) with Unload, Wake (Wake-on-LAN) and Restart buttons. It is fed by two new Home Assistant packages,
tab5_llm.yaml(Ollama, llama.cpp, LM Studio) andtab5_serveur_ia.yaml. Page: AI server. - Energy in pages (#451, ADR-0058): flows, the sun and a forecast learned from your own house, and a balance with resale and savings.
- Several remotes, one page each (#445, ADR-0056).
- Settings, Lights, Shutters, Weather, Alarm clock and Temperature are now popups with pages you swipe between.
Home screen
- The area left of the clock is your choice (voice, forecast graph, music player), with a dozen gestures to pick from in the blueprint, and a panel for « Okay Nabu ».
- Weather tiles fill their cell, the clock background can be chosen, and a « forecast out of date » mention appears when it is.
- Two-ring quick-action wheel, a navigation wheel on a long press of the centre card, and a wheel and a carousel for every climate, including each room's own.
Battery, power and speed
- No more hiss without a battery, a charge limit, and a charger left off at start-up when the previous start-up saw no battery.
- A charge mode, animations and a Wi-Fi saving mode in Settings, and a consumption test run from Home Assistant.
- Changing the theme and the cameras no longer freeze the screen.
Home Assistant
- A setup assistant for the HACS integration, a fallback when the weather provider fails, reliability statistics, and a boot timeline entity.
is_primary_activeis gone (see below).
Upgrading from 3.7.0
- Firmware first: « Firmware » entity in Home Assistant. With the « Tab5 » integration (HACS), download the new version in HACS and restart as it asks; the integration puts the files in place and starts the tablet update itself (option, ticked by default). The files then arrive before the firmware: until the OTA is over, the six new pushes are refused by the tablet's old firmware.
- Then the Home Assistant files, by hand: replace the files with those of
tab5_home_assistant.zip. Firstcustom_templates/(new:tab5_tablette.jinja,tab5_meteo.jinja), then Developer tools → YAML → custom Jinja templates; then the packages, six of them new (tab5_lecteur.yaml,tab5_suivi.yaml,tab5_froid.yaml,tab5_llm.yaml,tab5_serveur_ia.yaml,tab5_mesure_conso.yaml) and the « Tab5 — emplacements » blueprint (import it again if you imported it from its URL); reload all YAML configuration. The AI server popup needstab5_llm.yamlandtab5_serveur_ia.yaml, copied after the firmware; its Wake button loads the Wake on LAN integration (wake_on_lan:intab5_llm.yaml): restart Home Assistant if the key was not already in yourconfiguration.yaml(the « Tab5 » integration loads it without a restart). - Tidy-up:
input_boolean.is_primary_activeand the automations « Force Primary Active on Boot » and « Tab5 Santé — is_primary_active OFF depuis 5 min » are gone; if Home Assistant keeps them as « unavailable », delete them in Settings → Entities. The snippettab5_alerts_dismissed_input_text.yamlno longer exists. - Whenever you like: the new sections of the blueprint, the « Tab5 · … » lists (music players, tracked sensors, fridges, freezers, AI server type and the other « Tab5 · serveur IA, … » lists), the tablet settings (charge mode, charge limit, animations, Wi-Fi saving, clock background), and write the dashboard again (step 7 of the install guide) for the new entities.
Mixing versions (from the contract matrix, contrat_api.py --matrice): a 3.7.0 firmware with the 3.8.0 files is broken for six pushes (tab5_maj_energie_soleil, tab5_maj_energie_bilan, tab5_maj_froid, tab5_maj_lecteur, tab5_maj_serveur_ia, tab5_maj_suivi: Home Assistant refuses the call and stops the script there); a 3.8.0 firmware with the 3.7.0 files is degraded (eleven features show nothing). That is why the firmware goes first.
Measured for this version
- CI log of
build-min(ESPHome 2026.9.0) onmainbefore this release, which changes no code: application 5,051,426 bytes (62.2 %), static RAM 239,834 bytes (53.8 %). For comparison, the published rc.4: 4,836,246 bytes (59.5 %) and 209,794 bytes (47.1 %); 3.7.0: static RAM 192,602 bytes (43.2 %). The static RAM is up by 47 KB since 3.7.0. - The size of the published OTA binaries will be in the assets; internal free RAM was not measured again for this version.
Known issues
- Many screens above are « not tried on the tablet »: the AI server popup has never been opened on a real tablet, only read from an Ollama (nothing loaded) — llama.cpp and LM Studio have never been queried, no action has been sent and no magic packet either. The solar forecast has never met a real installation. Only one real camera was tried. The music cover only loads over http.
- Battery, reliability statistics and part of the notice images are not re-checked on a device; the new texts in German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Turkish are translated by an AI, not read by a native speaker.
- The ILI9881C build is compiled but has never run on a device; the ST7121 build runs on a user's unit.
- The notes of rc.2 to rc.4 say « Home Assistant files first »; for this version the contract matrix says the opposite (firmware first), as above.
Files: tab5-ha-hmi-<revision>.factory.bin (first install over USB), .ota.bin (update) and manifest-<revision>.json, signed with the project key; tab5_home_assistant.zip; tab5_hacs.zip (for HACS).
