Release list
v0.58.1
Changed
- Releasing the originals is quick. When the Lunelis folder is on
another drive (the migration's target, a NAS), each original used to be
copied across the network into its Trash - hours for a big source. The
originals now go to a "_Lunelis Quarantine" folder on their own drive, a
rename. Nothing is deleted; the Quarantine page finds them as before. - The release runs as a background job you can watch: its progress is
on the Jobs button and in the migration window ("Releasing the
originals", how many are set aside of how many). It pauses, waits for a
drive that's away and carries on after a restart, like the copy.
Fixed
- Files moved into the Lunelis folder on a NAS (Trash, Duplicates) are no
longer left hidden.
v0.57.1
Added
- A recognition panel beside the photo. With the face boxes on (the
Faces button, F), a panel to the left of the photo lists the people, the
pets and animals and the scene suggestions found in it. A suggested name
or scene is answered yes or no right there; an unnamed face gets a name;
a face or an animal Lunelis missed is added by hand; and "Look for faces
again" runs detection on the photo once more. Pointing at a row
highlights that face on the photo. - A better "Who is this?" The dialog shows the face, narrows the list
of people as you type (with their pictures, the suggested person first),
and offers Stranger, It's an animal and Not a face as buttons.
Fixed
Every keyboard shortcut was pressed for real in the screen where it is
documented, and these did nothing or the wrong thing:
- S on the Edit page opened the stack in the hidden Library.
- Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] said the photo was turned but didn't turn it on the
Edit page, nor in the photo view with the Edit panel open; the Edit
page's two rotate buttons did nothing. - Ctrl+Z in culling, opened over a photo with an edit in progress,
undid the hidden edit instead of the rating. - Left, Right and Space stopped changing photo after a click on a
button or in the side panel. - Esc, Up, Down and Enter typed in the tag box or a number box closed
the photo, changed photo or ended cropping. - + and - on the Map, and the arrow keys in the Library, did nothing
after arriving by a click in the sidebar. - The shortcut sheet now lists Backspace (out of an album) and S
in the photo view.
v0.56.2
Changed
- The Jobs panel colours each job's state: blue for running, amber for
queued or waiting, green for done, red for failed, grey for paused or
cancelled. The word stays beside the dot, so colour is never the only
signal, and each colour is checked for contrast in both themes.
Fixed
- S did nothing on a burst reached with the arrow keys in the photo
view. It opened the stack in the Library behind the photo, but the
filmstrip kept showing one tile. The frames now appear in the filmstrip,
and the status line says how many there are.
v0.56.1
Fixed
- Release was blocked by source photos the catalog already has
elsewhere. A file that a library update had recognised as a photo in
another source was never part of the plan, and the report listed it as
needing attention. It now counts as "left in place - an identical copy is
already in your library", after being compared byte for byte with that
copy.
v0.56.0
Changed
- A migration to a network share copies four files at once. One file
at a time left a fast link and the NAS mostly idle. Every copy is still
read back and compared with its original before it counts, and catalog
entries are still repointed one by one, in order. A file whose place in
the target is already taken, or wanted by another file, is handled one at
a time as before. Local drives still copy one file at a time.
Fixed
- After Start over, the emptied target stayed listed as a source, so
planning into the same place again was refused ("the target overlaps the
source") until it was removed by hand in Settings.
v0.55.2
Fixed
- Start over couldn't be reached for a migration cancelled from the Jobs
button. The wizard opened on step 1 as if nothing had happened, while
the catalog still pointed at the copies. It now opens on that migration's
Run step, which says what state it is in and offers Start over.
v0.55.1
Added
- Start over on the migration wizard's Run and Release steps: give a
started migration up. The copy stops, the catalog shows your originals
where they were again and the Lunelis folder setting goes back, so the
target can be emptied and the migration planned again. Nothing is deleted
or moved; the catalog is backed up first. Refused once originals have
been moved aside.
Fixed
- Photos copied to a NAS came out hidden. A migrated or imported
Library looked empty in Explorer although every file was there: each copy
is written under a temporary name that starts with a dot, the NAS marks
dot-files hidden, and the mark stayed after the rename. Copies are no
longer left hidden, and the migration wizard's Release step clears the
mark on what an earlier version copied. A file that was hidden at its
source stays hidden.
v0.55.0
The look-and-feel pass from the 10 October review, a migration wizard that
says how far the copy is, and a PC that stays awake while a job runs.
Added
- The migration wizard shows progress: the Run step has a progress bar,
files and size copied of the total, folders done, the measured speed, a
rough time left and the folder being copied, and says plainly when the
copy is paused, waiting for the NAS or queued. It refreshes by itself. - The PC stays awake while a background job runs. Windows put a PC to
sleep in the middle of a long migration; sleep is now held back for as
long as a job is running (the screen may still turn off). - Open the report folder on the wizard's Release step.
Changed
- The Release step answers first: "Every source file is accounted for"
or "N files need attention", then the counts in plain groups, and the
file list only when something needs attention. A line says why Release is
off whenever it is. - One page header and one filled button per page, named after what it
does; dialogs fill and name their confirming button. - Settings: Library is split into "Library" and "Recognition &
autopilot"; darktable moved into Ratings & sidecars and Updates into
Advanced; labels are centred on their fields; rows that only apply to one
choice show only with it. - Tables and lists: more cell padding, no column lines, one tinted
selected row everywhere, and a line of text instead of a blank box when
empty. - Library: a filter that is on is filled and says its value; Ask is a
mode of the search box; the photo menu is grouped. - Photo view and Edit: the top bar leaves the details to the Info
panel; the tool rail shows which tool is on; the Edit panel opens with
only Light and Color unfolded (your own choice of sections is kept); the
video trim row is labelled and shows its times. - Pages: Import is one aligned row ending in Import; Near-duplicates is
a list with pictures beside its detail; Create tools are a centred card;
Library status folds its steps when idle; Quarantine, Sensor dust, On
this day, Map, Stats, Albums and Scene suggestions were tidied. - Readability: disabled buttons look off, muted text has more contrast
and nothing is smaller than 12 px.
Fixed
- The Release step opened during the copy listed every file not copied
yet as "UNACCOUNTED". It now says the copy is still running and checks
once it has finished. - A sub-page highlights its parent in the sidebar, and the status bar
says the catalog snapshot is "saved", not "backed up".
v0.54.0
The rest of the issues from the 10 October review: 80 fixes, each with a
test. Nine findings that change behaviour or are features in themselves were
left for a decision (RAW auto-brightness, time zones of videos, 16-bit
export, export metadata, more formats and others).
Changed
- The window stays responsive: making thumbnails after an import,
removing a source, setting one duplicate group aside, counting smart
albums and reading a folder for import (which can now be stopped) run in
the background. - A photo opens from any page - People, On this day, a frame in the
stack tray - even when the Library is filtered; Back says where it goes. - Tags, face names and edits reach their sidecars a moment after you
make them, as ratings do, not at the next restart. - Faces and folder jobs are faster: known faces are read once per pass,
and each folder's files are found through the index instead of listing
the whole source. - The family gallery prefers your home network over a VPN adapter, opens
the catalog once per request, and never keeps PIN or error pages in the
browser. - Thumbnail memory is capped by size (about 400 MB for the grid), not by
count. - Catalog: indexes that make removing files quick after a migration;
the newest five pre-upgrade backups are kept instead of all of them.
Fixed
- Sidecars: one with no rating cleared the photo's stars; keywords
added in another program could be overwritten. Sidecars are flushed to
disk before they replace the old one. - Import: a full library drive pauses the import with a message instead
of failing every remaining file; evening imports were filed under
tomorrow's date. - A passing read problem (a file open elsewhere, memory short for a
moment) made a photo "preview unavailable" or "no metadata" for good; it
is tried again on the next passes. - Exports: above ISO 65,535 failed with metadata on; a cancelled or
crashed export left a half-written file under its final name. - Duplicates: a copy is not set aside unless the one being kept is
still on disk; verifying several groups in a row skipped the middle ones;
emptying the quarantine could remove another file's sidecar. - Selection and keys: Ctrl+A in the photo view selected the hidden
grid; S, rating keys and Copy edit settings acted on a different photo
from the one on screen in several cases. - Migration: a damage flag you dismissed still counted.
- The same folder could be added twice, as a drive letter and as a
network path. - 16-bit greyscale scans came out white; smart-album shutter rules
misread some speeds, and one malformed rule broke the Albums page. - Start-up: a bad backup zip chosen for restore crashed the next start.
- Updates: a newer test version was not offered over an older one.
- Plus smaller fixes: messages that vanished before they could be read,
icons that kept the old theme's colour, the Takeout tree collapsing on a
filter change, People lists jumping to the top, the tray icon always
switching to the Library, "No" to "Quit anyway?" not being respected.
v0.53.0
Safety fixes from the 10 October review, and a week of interface work.
Added
- Faces menu (the arrow beside Faces): add a person or a pet by dragging
a box, look for faces in the photo again, and for each face rename, mark
as animal or person, redraw its box, or remove it. - Kelvin on the Temperature slider: from the camera's own white balance
for a RAW; an approximate figure (from 5,500 K) for other files. - The camera's focus frame at its real size with focus peaking (Sony
a7R V); a marker for cameras that record only a point; none for manual
focus. - An album opens with a Back header (name, count, Back / Backspace); the
sidebar stays on Albums, and Library always shows the whole library.
Changed
- One Lunelis per data folder: a second start shows the running one
instead of opening the same catalog. - The wheel scrolls a panel and never changes a slider, number box or
drop-down it passes over. - A scan asked for while one is running is run next, not dropped.
- Backups copy a sidecar that changed after its photo was backed up.
Fixed
- Import: "safe to format the card" was shown while files Lunelis
doesn't handle (AVI, MXF, WAV, GoPro, some RAW types) were still only on
the card. It now says which were not copied. A Mac's "._" files are no
longer imported as photos. - Backups: a set said "Up to date" when files had failed to copy; it
now says how many, and they are in the log. - Selection: photos hidden by a search or filter stayed selected, so a
rating key, Tag or Export changed photos you couldn't see. The focus
photo is kept through a reload. - File checks: a photo edited since the last scan was flagged as silent
corruption for good. A missing or locked file no longer stops a hash or
check job. - Old QuickTime .MOV clips (and BigTIFF) were "not a photo or video",
and a migration filed them under Damaged. - Start-up: a failed catalog upgrade (its backup folder offline, a full
disk) was reported as a damaged catalog; recovery looked for backups only
in the default folder. - Faces: looking at a photo again forgot "not a face", stranger and
animal answers, and froze the window. - Library: a selection box was sluggish deep in a large library.
- Tags: typing in Find reloaded every card picture; Pets tags can no
longer be renamed or deleted from the Tags page. - The stack tray's close button was blank.
