Why do the most modern installation instructions recommend BOINC's RPM over Fedora's?

I'm attempting to install the desktop client for BOINC, ¹ after configuring the AOSP client.

However, wiki/Installing-BOINC-on-Fedora, which recommends broadly what I expect — dnf install boinc-manager — differs to its purported replacement — boinc.berkeley.edu/linux_install.php?action=submit&os_num=3 — which advises that I add a BOINC DNF repository.

This is rarely ideal; especially, when the distribution already provides one in its repository. ² Why is the distribution's installer not advised, and/or implicitly advised against?

Read carefully the documentation. For every distro we support we publish up-to-date insturctions how to install BOINC.
Yes, we still have some old pages there, but from time to time we try to get rid of them and keep the documentation clean and fresh.

@AenBleidd, what have I not carefully read? I've cited the exact path to access the relevant documentation from the currently-applicable installation documentation; even the exact commit hashes of the affected pages. Even despite that, your screenshot depicts yum in use! Yes, it's a symbolic link to dnf5, but alongside the more prominent aforecited problem with your documentation, you also definitely should not be recommending yum in 2026.

@AenBleidd, as rpm-software-management/dnf5/issues/416#issuecomment-1531979434 demonstrates, ¹ it's a compatibility shim. It has been replaced twice: with DNF, then DNF5. ² If a user were to have yum actually installed, many of the other instructions would not necessarily be applicable, because DNF5 and yum are not interchangeable beyond it being an alias in an interactive shell.

Irrespective, the significantly more problematic defect is that the current documentation links to outdated documentation. Really, that's what's confusing me the most. Ascertaining what is actually current, when the documentation itself sends the user in a loop, is difficult.
