HERMES_GR (High-Elective Resolution Modelling Emission System - Global-Regional) is an open-source, Python-based emission processing system designed to transform officially reported emission inventories into model-ready datasets for air quality and greenhouse gas (GHG) simulations.

It provides high-resolution spatial, temporal, vertical, and chemical speciation processing, enabling integration with state-of-the-art atmospheric models for research and regulatory applications.

Description

HERMES_GR generates ready-to-use emission inputs for atmospheric chemistry models at multiple spatial and temporal resolutions.

The global_regional module provides a highly customizable interface to calculate emissions from different sources, regions, and pollutants on a user-specified grid. It automatically combines, overlays, and updates existing emission inventories, which are then processed with user-defined vertical, temporal, and speciation profiles, as well as scaling and masking factors.

HERMES_GR can be used to:

  • Combine and update multiple emission inventories.
  • Apply spatial, temporal, vertical, and chemical speciation profiles.
  • Generate CTM-ready NetCDF outputs.
  • Configure global and regional domains for HPC workflows.

HERMES_GR has been tested for the following chemical transport models (CTM) and domains:
