The official Google Calendar app has more features and requires zero configuration; why use MinCal?

The official app requires device-wide Google login. So even if you just want calendar notifications for your work email, you're essentially forced to also log in to Drive, Gmail, Maps, Play Store, etc. For me (and maybe for others too) this is a horrible experience. Thus MinCal.

Why do I need to create my own OAuth credentials? Why aren't there baked-in credentials?

  1. I don't want your data, nor the power/responsibility born out of having access to it.
  2. I don't want to risk angering Google.
  3. I don't want to deal with Google's verification procedures and rate limits.
