Windows 2.0.0: guided accessibility review, offline
The Windows app now includes the guided PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel workspace, plus the existing native conversion tools. It is a separate update from browser v1.26. Mac beta remains v1.13.
What is new
- Review individual documents or mixed folders, and download a bundle of document copies and automated reports.
- Follow plain-language questions, record human checks, and get help with charts, complex tables, PDF form labels, and HTML reading-copy drafts.
- Use broader Office checks, conservative repair choices, and reset-to-original controls.
- Run OCR and image-description suggestions offline. English, Spanish, French, and German OCR resources and the Florence-2 model are bundled. AI results are drafts to review, not accessibility decisions.
- Keep the guided workspace in temporary memory. It blocks external requests and does not save or restore document sessions. Explicit downloads create copies.
- Open native Office-to-PDF conversion and PDF batch tools from the Desktop tools menu. Microsoft Word or PowerPoint is required for the corresponding conversion.
- Native outputs now use separate run/document folders to prevent duplicate-name overwrites. Background UI updates and validator evidence checks are improved.
Download and update
Choose the .exe installer, or extract the portable .zip and run Accessibility Remediator.exe. Keep the portable folder together. Existing v1.13 apps do not update automatically. Preserve your document outputs and install the new app or extract it into a separate folder.
Windows 10/11 x64 is required. No Python, Adobe Acrobat, account, or API key is needed. The package is larger because its offline resources are included. This release is unsigned; verify downloaded files against SHA256SUMS.txt.
Verification and limits
The packaged executable was checked with synthetic PDF/Office files, explicit downloads, clearing/reloading, sandbox and network restrictions, and automated accessibility checks. Offline OCR and image-description generation were tested. Native Word/PowerPoint exports produced tagged PDFs, and validator tests covered independently sourced passing/failing PDFs and incomplete evidence.
Automated checks do not certify arbitrary documents. Review the finished copy in its intended reader and use independent PDF validation. Native tools identify when veraPDF is unavailable. Optional PDF import may prompt in Word and can change layout. Full native assistive-technology testing and every supported OCR language were not exhaustively tested. Native conversion writes to your selected output folder; Office and the operating system may create their own temporary files.
