Cesium v0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Aug 04:45
9a0ef05

What's changed

Hosted production cut. Tag v0.9.0 after this lands on main to publish Android + Wear OS APKs plus desktop installers for macOS, Windows, and Linux on both x64 and arm64.

Added

  • Public /download page that auto-detects OS and CPU architecture and offers the latest GitHub release catalog (macOS DMG/ZIP, Windows setup, Linux AppImage/deb, Android + Wear APKs, plus PWA guidance). /api/releases/latest caches the GitHub payload for the page.
  • Clerk /sign-in and /sign-up routes, with an optional gated workbench (NEXT_PUBLIC_CESIUM_REQUIRE_SIGN_IN) that still leaves marketing, auth, rendezvous, and the release catalog public.
  • Cloud sync is on by default for web, Electron, Android, and iOS (committed Convex + Clerk defaults), with a live Settings → Account Cloud sync toggle that flips any client to local-only without a rebuild.
  • cesium CLI (cesium-workbench on npm) to install, start, and manage a local engine (install, start/stop/status, connect, update, supervise).
  • Cursor Cloud agent conversations as a device-system execution target: pick Cursor Cloud in the rail footer, pin new chats to vendor-hosted runs, filter and badge those conversations, and archive/unarchive them on Cursor's side.
  • Shared servers sync through the signed-in account using rendezvous locators, so a phone, desktop, and web client can point at the same engine without pasting URLs.
  • Full-width slash-command and attach panels in the composer.

Changed

  • Settings is a short hub sidebar instead of a long stacked nav.
  • Cursor and Codex harnesses are grouped with explicit SDK/server vs ACP toggles.
  • Work profile stays hidden on first install, and the new-chat profile toggle disappears when only one profile is enabled.
  • Landing page uses Sign up, Sign in, and Continue as guest (no more Launch workbench CTAs), with tighter copy.
  • Production site and cloud defaults point at cesium.techlitnow.com.
  • Desktop installers use Cesium product icons; Windows is a per-user one-click setup with no directory wizard.
  • Engine exposure requires auth; URL-only publish is gone.

Fixed

  • Clerk → Convex auth config on the hosted app, and engine error messages no longer leak internals.
  • Default model for headless/API/voice-created chats now follows Cesium Agent settings instead of a hardcoded registry id.
  • Unpinning the last pinned conversation no longer gets undone by the legacy pin migration.
  • Chat: Open Recent Chats opens the rail search modal again.
  • Terminal kill escalates to SIGKILL when a polite PTY kill is ignored.
  • Test fixtures no longer write phantom conversations into the real user store.

Install

Android — sideload the phone APK on Android 8+ (the Wear OS companion APK is for paired watch installs):

adb install -r cesium-mobile-0.9.0.apk

macOS — open the DMG and drag Cesium Desktop into Applications. Builds are unsigned, so on first launch right-click the app and choose Open, or clear the quarantine flag:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Cesium Desktop.app"

Windows — double-click the setup executable for a per-user one-click install (no admin, no directory wizard). Builds are unsigned, so if SmartScreen appears choose "More info" then "Run anyway".

Linux — make the AppImage executable and run it, or install the deb:

chmod +x cesium-desktop-0.9.0-linux-x64.AppImage && ./cesium-desktop-0.9.0-linux-x64.AppImage
# or
sudo apt install ./cesium-desktop-0.9.0-linux-x64.deb

Cesium v0.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 17:09
b0a0a50

What's changed

First unified multi-platform release. Tag v0.8.0 after this lands on main to publish Android + Wear OS APKs plus desktop installers for macOS, Windows, and Linux on both x64 and arm64.

Added

  • Cesium Desktop is a first-class shipped app on macOS (Apple silicon + Intel), Windows (x64 + arm64), and Linux (x64 + arm64). Tagged releases attach DMG/ZIP, NSIS setup, AppImage, and deb artifacts alongside the phone and Wear OS APKs. Each architecture builds on a native runner because the packaged app embeds the host Node binary and compiles native modules in place.
  • Desktop native surface ported from Android: agent-run notifications with the same completion / intervention preferences (always / background-only / never), a tray icon with live agent status, dock/taskbar attention (macOS badge + bounce; Windows/Linux frame flash), cesium:// deep links, and Open With / dock-drop / argv share intake into the existing share sheet.
  • Native macOS window chrome: hidden-inset title bar with traffic lights, a real application menu so ⌘C/⌘V/⌘W/⌘Q work, and workbench insets that keep the rail, editor tabs, and settings search out from under the lights.
  • MCP plugins marketplace, Connect, and OAuth hardening.
  • SubAgents V2 model inheritance and Model access settings with layered Cesium harness UI.
  • New-chat composers persist as titled drafts (title is taken from the first typed character).
  • Voice settings for transcription, TTS, and title fallback.
  • Harness toggles, Cursor ACP revival, and CLI OAuth.
  • Live subagent progress streamed into open transcript views.
  • Unified OpenCode and OpenCode v2 Beta into one harness, with model-specific harness capability contracts.

Changed

  • Scale performance overhaul: per-conversation subscriptions, batched fan-out, poll reduction, and GPU cuts so large workspaces stay responsive.
  • Bundled mobile workbench is rebuilt from source for this release, so the removed server-gate and later shell work actually ship in the APK (the 0.7.0 APK still had stale assets from #168).
  • Subscription OAuth is restricted to ChatGPT and SpaceXAI SuperGrok.
  • Standalone Chat rail hides its title for No workspace.
  • Todo tool calls group into the same worked-session dropdown as other tools.

Removed

  • The blocking "Check Cesium server" / "Sign in to Cesium" full-page gate is gone. The workbench now always mounts immediately on launch, even when the configured backend is unreachable or requires sign-in; connecting, switching, and signing in to servers (including the Termux on-device flow) live in-app under Settings -> Servers and the server picker.
  • The 40-iteration cap on Cesium subagent tool loops.

Fixed

  • OAuth / Sign In / Authenticate redirects no longer die inside the Android (and iOS) WebView. window.open and foreign http(s) navigations now leave the bundled workbench and open in the system browser instead of being swallowed by setSupportMultipleWindows={false} or unloading the file:// page.
  • Composer no longer drops keystrokes or shifts the caret when typing fast on Android.
  • Queued-message arrow force-sends instead of unqueueing.
  • Composer status defaults apply correctly across new chats.
  • Browsers no longer auto-split, and the workbench pane no longer auto-reopens.
  • Cesium pause/stop pill animates both ways.
  • Chat transition jank, model persistence, and dock-aware scroll padding.
  • Mobile workbench pane frost and empty-editor swipe-close.
  • First-turn conversation event reconciliation.
  • Cursor SDK local coding access across platforms.
  • Landing workbench CTAs actually open /agent.
  • Cursor SDK sandbox no longer fails fresh installs on hosts without kernel sandbox support.

What's changed

Added

  • Native iOS app (React Native 0.86, apps/mobile/ios): the same shared shell (src/App.tsx) now runs on iOS. WKWebView loads the identical bundled workbench folder the APK ships (referenced straight from the Android assets copy, so both platforms stay pixel-identical per release), the bridge protocol is unchanged (it already listened on both window and document), and a new CesiumIOSRuntime native module supplies the bundled-workbench file URL, the .app read-access root, and safe-area insets. Android-only capabilities (Live Updates, predictive back, phone control, Wear companion, share intake) degrade gracefully through their existing platform guards. iOS defaults to http://127.0.0.1:9100 (the simulator shares the host loopback; numeric on purpose, since localhost resolves to ::1 first on Apple platforms and hangs against IPv4-only servers); WebKit content-process termination gets the same retry surface as an Android renderer crash.
  • WebKit file: history guard: iOS WebKit throws a SecurityError when history.pushState/replaceState changes anything but query/fragment on file: pages (Chromium allows path changes, which Electron and the APK rely on). The renderer polyfills and the native documentStart bootstrap now retry such calls with the real bundle pathname plus the intended query + hash, so the workbench's Next-style router works identically on all shells.
  • Mobile iOS CI (mobile-ios-ci.yml): macOS runner builds the unsigned Release simulator app with CocoaPods + xcodebuild, boots an iPhone simulator, starts a real Bun backend plus a deterministic mock LLM provider on the runner, launches Cesium, asserts the process survives a warm relaunch, drives a standalone agent chat run end-to-end (streamed-reply assertion + live UI screenshot), and uploads the workbench screenshots plus the zipped .app as artifacts.
  • Agent rail Running section and opt-in Settled mode: actively working agents are elevated into their own cross-workspace Running bucket (below Needs attention), and Settled mode lets the rail collapse finished conversations.
  • Live notification display preferences and a combined multi-agent notification: per-run chips can merge, and the status chip shows todo fraction (3/7) or goal percent instead of a fake ETA countdown.
  • Settings nav drawer uses the same swipe/spring gestures as the agent shell rail.
  • Appearance toggle to hide tool-call icons in the transcript (off by default).

Changed

  • Fresh mobile sessions land on the new-chat page with the rail collapsed, instead of opening the full-viewport workspace drawer.
  • New-chat workspace/branch/import picker drops the docked-card chrome so those controls sit on the aurora backdrop.
  • Composer work pill no longer counts the conversation you are already looking at — only background chats, sub-agents, and cloud tasks.
  • Scoped agent rail hides the duplicate workspace title when only one group is visible; No workspace is restored in the new-chat dropdown and rail filter.
  • Chat streaming no longer re-projects every row on each flush (stable projection identity + memoized rows), which was janking phones and crashing the WebView on permission answers.
  • Bundled workbench picks up the post-0.6.0 shell: Running/Settled rail, no-workspace pickers, tool-call icon toggle, alpha scroll fades, conversation import on phones, Settings drawer gestures, and the live-notification chip rewrite.

Fixed

  • Voice input no longer fails with "Could not start audio source" even when microphone permission is granted. Android WebView's getUserMedia audio capture requires the install-time MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS permission in addition to RECORD_AUDIO; the manifest was missing it, and users cannot grant it from system settings. A regression test now pins both permissions in the manifest.
  • Live notification kill/restart flicker: bridge and native-socket projections no longer mint different startedAt keys for the same run, so the chip updates in place instead of cancelling and reposting.
  • Top safe-area padding no longer collapses under the status bar after app refocus, and landscape phones that cross the desktop-layout breakpoint keep their top chrome padded.
  • Backend connection survives app backgrounding instead of toasting "Reconnected" on every resume; the workbench stays mounted through transient auth/connection blips that previously looked like a random reload.
  • Android conversation import respects the bundled WebView origin (CORS) and uses a source-first phone/tablet dialog instead of a cramped two-column layout.
  • Android WebView overscroll stretch/glow is disabled on the root shell (inner scroll panes still overscroll).
  • Windowed-mode tab inset no longer indents the workspace dropdown or right-pane toggles.
  • Cursor SDK sandbox no longer fails fresh installs on hosts without kernel sandbox support (auto mode + unsandboxed fallback). Cesium's tool loop no longer dies at an artificial 80-iteration cap.

Install

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Aug 18:44

What's changed

Added

  • Notification alert settings: completion and needs-input alerts are gated on app foreground state with per-category preferences (default: completions post only while the app is in the background), configurable from mobile Settings. The server also interrupts leftover busy conversations at boot and watchdogs runs whose provider runtime died without settling the turn.
  • Standalone no-workspace chat: fresh installs no longer auto-seed a default workspace from WORKSPACE_ROOT. The landing composer and Android share-sheet intake submit through the standalone sandbox when no workspace is active, onboarding offers "No workspace — just chat", and deleting the last durable workspace returns to the empty shell instead of a dead workspace id.

Changed

  • Theme-agnostic UI: missing tokens (--bg-deep, --status-{success,warning,error}, adaptive plus-button aliases) are defined, hardcoded colors across modals / dropdowns / editor / status UI now resolve through theme tokens, and Monaco is driven from those tokens with unique theme names so live preset switches apply.
  • Soft keyboard no longer pans the whole window on SDK 35+ (React Native force-enables edge-to-edge, which made adjustResize a no-op). The activity pads its content view by IME height via WindowInsetsCompat / WindowInsetsAnimationCompat, so the React root and WebView shrink and the workbench reflows above the keyboard.
  • Chat user-turn headers use real CSS position: sticky inside each virtual row instead of a JS overlay clone. Android WebView no longer paints a duplicate pinned message (the overlay lagged compositor-driven scroll), and editing a pinned turn mounts one composer.
  • Mobile right workbench drawer uses the same frosted treatment as the left rail.
  • Composer attach menu drops the Link option; pasting an http(s) URL into the composer still creates a link pill.
  • Bundled workbench picks up the post-0.5.0 shell: workspace-first agent rail, Chromium 83 layout fallbacks (inset longhands + overflow:hidden before overflow:clip so the absolutely-positioned mobile shell and drawers do not collapse on stock Android 11), theme-token sweep, no-workspace landing, and notification alert settings.

Fixed

  • Settings crash loop and file:// reload dead-end on the packaged WebView: workspace URL sync no longer rewrites a file:// document to /agent (net::ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND), Reload Cesium returns to the boot document and forces the next launch into new-chat, a panel-scoped error boundary contains Settings render crashes, and malformed update-state payloads no longer take down the Updates panel. The native shell also keeps the Retry UI after a failed load (onLoad vs onLoadEnd).
  • Stale Live Updates / "Working" notifications: persisted ongoing runs expire on foreground-service restore and reconcile against the authoritative projection set, so orphaned chronometer chips cancel. Projection startedAt anchors to the current run after the latest terminal boundary instead of the first running event in the loaded window.
  • Workbench layout on legacy Android WebViews (Chromium 83): without the inset / overflow:clip fallbacks the mobile shell and drawers collapsed into normal flow; programmatic scroll of the shell is pinned to the origin so focus heuristics cannot drag the UI into parked drawer overflow.
  • Server installers: existing clones retarget the fetch refspec so git checkout of the requested branch no longer dies with pathspec did not match; both installers build @cesium/contracts; the isolated bun installer deletes stale nested @cesium copies that shadowed built workspace packages; callMcpToolRich wraps the artifacts MCP branch so tsc builds (Termux) succeed.

What's changed

Added

  • Gradual predictive back: the Android back gesture now streams its progress into the app (native OnBackPressedCallback with progressive members registered above React Native's plain callback, forwarded over the WebView bridge as backStarted / backProgressed / backCancelled). The mobile workspace rail and workbench pane follow the finger 1:1 through the existing drawer spring engine, and the full-screen settings view runs a Material-style scale/shift/corner preview — committing pops the layer, cancelling springs it back. Older Androids and 3-button navigation keep the previous discrete behavior.
  • Android share-sheet intake: share text, links, and files from other apps into a new or existing chat. The intake sheet is WebView-83-safe (stock Android 11), drains shares that arrive while Cesium is already foreground, and still opens when the only shared item was unreadable or oversized so the skip notice is visible.

Changed

  • Live Updates now actually render as a status-bar chip / Now Bar promotion: silent IMPORTANCE_DEFAULT channel (cesium-agent-runs-v2), chip text that stays populated when no countdown owns it, explicit ProgressStyle segments for terminal/unknown kinds, promote-flag + native preference combined (not overridden), and per-device Settings copy (Android 16 vs QPR1+ vs Samsung Now Bar) plus a best-effort Now Bar settings deep link.
  • WebView bridge protocol moved to @cesium/core with a version handshake; polyfills ship in the renderer bundle; first-paint theme is stamped into the Android asset copy.
  • Bundled workbench picks up the post-0.4.0 shell: full-screen voice agent sessions (launch surfaces + hardened lifecycle), customizable new-chat landing, settings account/breadcrumb shell, Aurora Borealis conversation backdrop, GitHub/npm update panel, mobile swipe gestures / instant chat spawn, agent capability profiles, harness OAuth / Grok Build device login, and the PR review tab.

Fixed

  • In-WebView back handling now works on Android 13–15 with gesture navigation. React Native 0.86 only registers its back callback on Android 16+, so with enableOnBackInvokedCallback opted in, every back gesture on 13–15 previously invoked the system default (exit the app) instead of popping open in-app layers. The new always-registered predictive callback intercepts back whenever the app has something to pop.
  • Live Updates chip presentation no longer leaves an empty status-bar chip on short ETAs; the notifyDirectly fallback persists run state for service restore.

@github-actions github-actions released this 10 Aug 06:05
60fff2c

What's changed

Changed

  • Android Live Updates (promoted ProgressStyle notifications) are now the primary — and default — run-progress surface, with a standard live notification as the only fallback when promotion is unsupported or denied. The previous "Now Bar" placement option was a misnomer: Samsung exposes no third-party Now Bar API; One UI 8+ simply renders standard Live Updates in the Now Bar. Stored preferences migrate (nowbarlive, old livebasic).
  • Every active agent now gets its own live notification (stable per-run notification ids, per-run pending intents, per-run dismissal memory) instead of a single shared notification that the most recent update overwrote. The foreground service anchors on one run and re-anchors when that run finishes or is dismissed, so remaining agents keep updating.
  • The workbench projects all conversations with active agent runs over the bridge (agentProjections), not just the focused one, and the background agent socket subscribes to every active conversation, so multi-agent tracking keeps working while the app is idle.
  • Bundled workbench picks up the post-0.3.1 chat/composer polish: icon-compact model/mode on narrow rows, action pills (dynamic status + custom quick actions), OLED-friendly dark theme defaults, larger touch targets, and Cloud Agents official icons instead of abbreviation badges.

Added

  • "Agent attention" high-importance notification channel: agents alert (heads-up/sound) exactly when they start needing input (permission/question) and when a watched run completes, fails, or is cancelled; routine progress updates stay silent on the low-importance runs channel. Interventions and completions also bypass a run's dismissed state.
  • Completion/failure notifications now persist until dismissed instead of auto-cancelling ~15 s after the run ends.
  • Predictive-back capable Android back stack: hardware / gesture back routes through in-WebView overlays (settings, rails, panes, modals) before WebView history or app exit (enableOnBackInvokedCallback).

Fixed

  • Voice orb is no longer always visible on Android. The packaged workbench now includes the Settings → General → Voice opt-in gate (showVoiceOrb, default off), so the floating mic stays hidden until the user enables it.
  • Live notification projections resolve the focused conversation correctly (URL / agent view / chat tab), so background runs actually update the native notification surface instead of starving on a stale new tab id.
  • Harness picker no longer auto-closes on Android touch taps (hover compat events were racing the open/toggle path); the whole harness row is tap-to-toggle and the model edit control stays visible on coarse pointers.
  • Background agent/socket work no longer falls back into aggressive polling when the app is idle; terminal transport and bridge handoff waste less battery while backgrounded.
  • Subagent cards no longer duplicate, lose transcripts, or leave stuck spinners; chat scroll jitter from stream updates is tamed; composer draft text no longer sticks after send / New Chat.

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Jul 11:09
db76c97

What's changed

Fixed

  • Termux one-command server install no longer aborts with EBADPLATFORM: Unsupported platform for onnxruntime-node ... (current: {"os":"android"}). The voice plane's kokoro-js dependency (whose onnxruntime-node transitive dependency ships no Android binaries) is now an optionalDependency, so the on-device npm ci --omit=optional skips it entirely, and the server compiles and runs without the module — the kokoro TTS engine simply reports unavailable.
  • Termux installer now installs espeak (eSpeak NG), so the voice control plane keeps a working local TTS engine on-device; it becomes the default engine when kokoro is absent.

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Jul 10:45
32696ff

What's changed

Added

  • Live voice control plane in the bundled workbench: ambient draggable voice orb with transient caption bubbles, capture → VAD → endpointing → STT pipeline, TTS playback, and a pipeline self-test — backed by the server's voice controller (session tools + compaction) and TTS engine registry. The Android assistant now drives the same voice controller.
  • Termux on-device server setup restored for the WebView app: the "Check Cesium server" screen and the server manager show a "Run the server on this phone" card with an F-Droid link, the one-command Termux installer, and a "Check and use this phone" button that connects to the local 127.0.0.1:9100 server.
  • openExternalUrl WebView bridge message: workbench links such as the F-Droid page open in the system browser via Linking.openURL instead of navigating the bundled file:// app away.

Fixed

  • The native shell (agent status polling, phone control, notifications, Wear) follows workbench server switches again: the workbench re-broadcasts serverConfigured whenever the active server changes. The WebView revert had dropped this wiring, leaving native services pointed at the launch-time server.
  • Voice VAD assets resolve relative to the page on file:// origins, so packaged builds can load Silero when the assets are bundled and fall back to the energy VAD cleanly when they are not.

What's changed

Fixed

  • App no longer crashes to "Cesium hit an unexpected UI error / Cesium web URL must use http or https" on first launch when no Cesium server is reachable. The hosted-web server installer card (ServerSetupCommand) threw on the packaged client's file:// origin from both the connection-error screen and the server connections manager; it is now hidden in packaged (WebView/Electron) builds, so the "Check Cesium server" screen and server management work as intended.

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Jul 09:32
f67d33e

What's changed

Changed

  • Replaced the divergent native React Native workbench with the bundled Vite WebView client used by Electron, restoring settings, harness/model selection, workspace/repository controls, Markdown, tool calls, and conversation parity.
  • React Native now owns only the Android bridge and native services (live/Now Bar notifications, Wear, assistant, phone control, window insets, and runtime/image picker).
  • Removed the obsolete @cesium/ui-native package and its NativeWind/Reanimated/MMKV dependency stack.

Added

  • Cesium launcher icon: adaptive (and themed monochrome) hexagon-mark icons for the phone and Wear apps. Previous releases shipped no android:icon, so Android showed the default placeholder.
  • Brand notification small icon (ic_stat_cesium) for agent-run, phone-control, and Wear notifications, replacing the stock stat_notify_sync / ic_dialog_info system icons.
