Release list
TermFold 2.3
TermFold 2.3: updates from inside the app, a leaner browser, and fixes for the bubble and the running-sessions notification.
New
- Updates in Settings. Settings > Updates checks GitHub for a newer release, downloads it, checks its SHA-256 and signing key, and hands it to Android's installer. Your projects and files are kept. A dot on the Settings tab shows when an update is waiting. (The first time, Android asks you to allow TermFold to install apps.)
- A browser agents can afford to use. Snapshots show only what is on screen, capped, without link addresses (about 25x fewer tokens than the full list on a long page).
snapshot --find <text>,--scope,--changed(only what differs),--all,outline,text --selector --max. The full list is saved to/tmp/termfold-browser/snapshot.txtfor the agent to grep. Screenshots are smaller JPEGs, can be of one element, and--if-changedskips a picture that would look the same. - One motion system. Every animation now uses the same three speeds and one curve, a little slower on tablets where surfaces are bigger.
Fixed
- Codex CLI (native) would not start with "failed to record pid-managed app-server process". Android hides /proc/stat, which Codex reads for a process start time; TermFold now provides it.
- The bubble was square. It is now round, with the logo clearly inside.
- Agents could not open the browser in bubble mode. Only a window that is actually on screen holds the browser now, and when an agent needs it while nothing is showing, TermFold asks you to open it and waits for you.
- "N sessions running" stayed up with nothing running, and could only be removed by closing the app from Recents. It now counts only sessions that are working, goes away after five idle minutes, and has a Stop sessions button.
- Closing the bubble felt laggy. Web pages are released properly when a window closes and the bubble's system work no longer runs on the screen thread. Opening Settings no longer rescans the whole Linux disk each time.
- Moving from Ubuntu now also keeps globally installed npm packages.
Install over your current version; everything is kept.

TermFold 2.2.1
TermFold 2.2.1: Debian replaces Ubuntu (use this instead of 2.2.0).
Changed
- The Linux environment is now Debian 13 (trixie), which is lighter and faster than Ubuntu. Everything else works as before:
apt, Python, Node 22, git, build tools, SSH and the agent CLIs. - Automatic move from Ubuntu. If you are updating from an earlier version, TermFold offers to switch when it starts (or later from Settings, "Switch to Debian"). It keeps your projects and files, agent sign-ins, shell history, Node.js and the agent tools you installed, then removes Ubuntu. "Later" keeps Ubuntu working for a day. A switch that gets interrupted finishes on the next start.
- After the switch, the first shell installs the developer tools again from Debian (a few hundred MB, needs a connection) and lists the apt packages you had on Ubuntu in
~/.termfold/ubuntu-packages.txt, so you can reinstall the ones you still want. Python virtual environments may need to be recreated.
Fixed
- Node.js and the agent CLIs were not found in a Debian login shell (2.2.0 only): Debian resets
PATHat login, dropping/opt/node/bin. It is now put back. - Packages whose installer creates a system user or group (for example
openssh-client) no longer fail on Android. - The setup repairs an install that was cut off half way instead of stopping.
Install over your current version. Needs about 400 MB of free space for the switch.

TermFold 2.2.0
Superseded by 2.2.1. In this build Node.js and the agent CLIs are not found in a Debian login shell. Please install 2.2.1.
TermFold 2.1.1
TermFold 2.1.1: a cooler, steadier browser, and session search.
New
- Minimize the browser to a small pill you can drag anywhere (it starts top right). The page keeps running, so an agent can keep working in it; the pill shows a spinner and what the agent is doing. Tap it to bring the browser back.
- Search and delete chat sessions. The sessions popup in a chat has a search field, and a delete button that removes a session and its saved conversation (with a confirmation).
- Passwords when you ask for them. Agents can type a password you give them into a real website; they then warn you it passed through the AI and suggest changing it afterwards.
Fixed
- Agents losing the browser. After maximizing, restoring or rotating, every browser command could fail with "The preview browser did not open".
- Black screenshots taken while the browser was minimized. A screenshot that comes out blank is now retaken, and the agent is told if it stays blank.
- White areas around the browser's start page and in full screen.
termfold-browser opennow reports a 404 or 500 page as an error instead of "Opened".
Changed
- Cooler and lighter. Background checks pause when TermFold is not on screen, animations run only while visible, and a minimized browser is paused. Idle CPU use with the browser open dropped by 80–90%.
- Clearer agent errors. When a chat agent fails, the error shows what the agent itself reported.
- Google Antigravity is no longer offered as a chat agent. Its chat server cannot run on Android (it needs a larger memory address space than Android gives apps). Its
agyCLI works in a Shell session, and the unusable ~1 GB download is removed.
Install over your current version; everything is kept.

TermFold 2.1
TermFold 2.1: a browser in the app, and agents that can use it.
New: Preview
- See your work without leaving TermFold. Open a dev server (
localhost:5173), a page from your project, or any website, in a pane beside your chat or shell on a tablet (drag to resize, or go full screen) or full screen on a phone. - Type anything in the address bar: a port like
5173, a path like~/site/index.html, a site, or search words. - Project pages are served like on a real server, so JavaScript modules,
fetch()and relative links work, and the page reloads by itself when files change. - Dev servers show up by themselves. The globe button gets a green dot when one is running, and the start page lists them together with the project's HTML pages.
- Phone and desktop widths, the page's console (with an error badge and a Copy button to paste into a chat), and screenshots to the clipboard or into the project.
- Minimize it to a small pill you can drag anywhere. The page keeps running, so an agent can keep working in it; the pill shows a spinner and what the agent is doing. Tap it to bring the browser back.
- Open it from the globe button in project, shell and chat headers, Preview on any HTML file, or any link in an agent's reply.
New: agents can use the browser
- Agents drive the same browser you see: open pages, read them, click, type, fill forms, choose options, tick boxes, scroll, wait, press keys, upload files, take screenshots they can look at, and read the console and failed requests. Taps and keys are real input, so pages behave exactly as they do for you.
- You watch it happen: an orange glowing frame, an "Agent is using the browser" bar, and a pointer that glides to each target with a ripple on every click. Stop hands the browser back to you at any time.
- Set up automatically. Chat agents get it as MCP tools. In a shell it's the
termfold-browsercommand, with a skill for Claude Code and notes for Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, pi and Qwen. - Safe by default. Only programs inside TermFold's Linux can use it. Agents can type a password you give them; on a real website they warn you it passed through the AI and recommend changing it afterwards. Agent screenshots are temporary (newest 100, one day).
Changed
- Cooler and lighter. Background checks pause when TermFold is not on screen, animations run only while visible, and a minimized browser is paused. Idle CPU use with the browser open dropped by 80–90%.
- Google Antigravity is no longer offered as a chat agent. Its chat server cannot run on Android (it needs a larger memory address space than Android kernels give apps). Its

- Search and delete chat sessions. The sessions popup in a chat has a search field, and a delete button that removes a session and its saved conversation.
- Plain
http://is now allowed, so local and LAN dev servers load.

TermFold 2.0.2
TermFold 2.0.2: talk to agents while they work.
New
- Queue messages while the agent is working. Type your next message and send it: it waits above the text box and goes out when the current turn ends. Several queued messages are sent in order.
- Send now. Tap it on a queued message to stop the agent's current turn and send that message straight away, to steer the agent mid-task. Any queued message can be removed with ×.
- Latest button. Scroll up to read and a Latest button appears to jump back down.
Changed
- The chat follows the agent reliably while you're at the bottom, including tool output and replies growing in place, and leaves you alone when you scroll up to read.
- On tablets the chat is a centered column the width of the input box instead of stretching across the screen.
- Quieter tool calls. No tick on success; a failed call is shown in red.
- The Working timer restarts for each message.
Install over your current version; everything is kept.

TermFold 2.0.1
TermFold 2.0.1: safer system folders and folder uploads everywhere.
Changed
- System files are view-only in Files. Everything outside Home (your projects included) can be browsed, searched and opened read-only, but not deleted, renamed, moved or shared from the file manager. A Read-only label marks those folders. Copy path and Copy still work, so you can hand an agent a path or paste a copy into Home to work on. The shell is unchanged: you're still root there.
- On phones, New project and New session are a compact + button. Tablets keep the labelled button.
New
- Upload a whole folder from the project sidebar, with everything inside it, not only single files. (The Files tab already had this under Upload → A whole folder.)
Install over your current version; everything is kept.

TermFold 2.0
TermFold 2.0: real Linux projects, a built-in file manager, and agents that stay installed.
New
- Projects live in Linux now. Start one empty, clone it from Git, or import a folder from your device. Projects sit in Ubuntu's own storage (
~/projects), so symlinks, permissions, executables, git, npm and virtualenvs behave exactly as on a PC. TermFold no longer asks for storage access. - A Files tab. Browse your home folder, any project or the whole system. Search, including inside subfolders, sort, and switch between list and grid. Create, rename, copy, cut, paste and delete. On a tablet, your places sit in a side pane.
- Files in and out, any type. Upload files or whole folders, or use Share → TermFold from any app (a PDF for an agent, screenshots, a dataset). Export to any folder on your device, save to device, share, or open with another app. TermFold also shows up in Android's file picker. Hidden files, such as agent sign-ins, are never exposed.
- Image viewer. Pinch or double-tap to zoom. Copy image puts the picture on the clipboard, ready to paste into an agent. It works from the Files tab and from the project sidebar.
- Copy path on any file, to hand its location to an agent.
Fixed
- Claude Code no longer re-downloads on every launch. Android forbids hard links in app storage, and the old workaround lost files whenever npm updated a package. A small library preloaded into Ubuntu now makes hard links just work for dpkg, npm, git, pip and tar. Existing installs are repaired automatically on first start.
Changed
- A cleaner, flatter look: no orange background glow, labelled navigation, calmer selection states, and a distinct icon for each file action.
- Translations for everything new in हिन्दी, Español, Português (Brasil), Bahasa Indonesia and 简体中文.
Upgrading
Install over your current version; your Ubuntu setup, installed tools and agent sign-ins are kept. Projects that pointed at folders in Android storage are removed from the list (the files on your device are untouched). Use New project → Import from device to bring one in.
Your projects now live inside the app, so uninstalling TermFold or clearing its data deletes them. Push to git, or export from Files, to keep a copy.

TermFold 1.5
TermFold 1.5: search, file management, themes and five languages.
New
- Search the terminal. Tap the search icon (or press Ctrl+Shift+F) to find anything in the scrollback, with highlights, a match count and next/previous. (#1)
- Manage files from the sidebar. Long-press to create a file or folder, rename, or move to another folder, alongside delete. New files open straight in the editor. (#2)
- Terminal colour themes. TermFold, Dracula, Solarized Dark, Nord, Gruvbox Dark and Light, with live previews in Settings, applied instantly even to running sessions. (#5)
- Five new languages: हिन्दी, Español, Português (Brasil), Bahasa Indonesia, 简体中文. They follow your device language. (#4)
Fixed
- Tool calls in reopened chat sessions now show which file they touched. (#3)
Install over your current version; your setup and sessions are kept.

TermFold 1.4.3
TermFold 1.4.3
- Local time everywhere. Claude Code and other Node.js tools now show your local time instead of UTC on devices that report a legacy time zone name (for example India).
- New launch film in the README.
