SCP 714

SCP-714 — The Jaded Ring

SCP-714 is a rare single-stack item equipped in the SCP Inventory's accessory-hand slot.

It protects the wearer from compatible mental influences, including SCP-012, but progressively suppresses movement, stamina, hearing, and consciousness.

Immediate effects

While equipped:

• sprinting is disabled;
• stamina cannot be used normally;
• SCP_714_PROTECTION is provided to compatible hazards;
• the exposure sequence continues persistently until the ring is removed.

Exposure timeline

Time equipped	Effect
Immediately	Sprinting stops and normal movement begins to slow.
0–90 seconds	Movement gradually decreases while a jade-black radial vignette and audio muffling intensify.
90 seconds	The first subtle fatigue message appears.
110 seconds	A stronger fatigue message appears.
120 seconds	Vision becomes fully black and horizontal movement reaches zero.
120–125 seconds	The wearer has a final five-second opportunity to remove the ring.
125 seconds	The wearer dies from an SCP-714-induced coma.

Audio

Each exposure begins a local-only SCP-714 soundtrack heard by the affected player.

Diegetic world audio becomes progressively muffled until almost nothing external can be heard. Music and interface audio remain separate from this filtering.

Removing the ring, dying, or leaving the world stops the exposure soundtrack. Ending exposure early uses a smooth two-second fade-out.

Removal

Removing SCP-714 immediately clears:

• slowdown;
• radial vignette;
• exposure timer;
• pending coma;
• active soundtrack;
• world-audio filtering.

SCP-012 protection

While protected, SCP-012 cannot apply or maintain:

• attraction;
• forced camera movement;
• trance audio;
• psychosis;
• contact progression.

SCP-714 does not stop SCP-079 from opening doors or the containment box itself, and it does not automatically heal physical Bleeding already caused before protection began.
