Amiberry emulates the RTG (Retargetable Graphics) portion of the MNT ZZ9000 expansion card. The emulation presents real ZZ9000 manufacturer and product IDs along with the firmware 2.8 register ABI, so the standard ZZ9000.card Picasso96 driver can be used unchanged.
Two variants are available on the Expansions panel under the "RTG Graphics Cards" category:
- 4 MB VRAM
- Basic RTG emulation covering modes, pixel formats, panning, palettes, accelerated drawing and blits, hardware sprites, screen split with secondary palette, monitor switching, and DPMS
- Configuration equivalent:
gfxcard_type=ZZ9000_Z2,gfxcard_size=4
- 128 MB VRAM
- Everything in the Zorro II model plus:
- 256-byte-aligned off-screen surface allocator
-
WriteYUVRectsupport - Picasso96 video-window / PIP (Picture-in-Picture) features with packed YUV source formats, scaling, clipping, activation, and color-key rules matching firmware 2.8
- Amiberry composites the PIP into the emulated RTG output without modifying the guest framebuffer, making the feature usable for software testing without a physical card
- The driver's
ZZ9000-NO-OFFSCREENandZZ9000-NO-PIPenvironment switches (and their corresponding tool types) continue to work - Configuration equivalent:
gfxcard_type=ZZ9000_Z3,gfxcard_size=128
- Open the Expansions panel in the GUI
- Select "RTG Graphics Cards" from the category dropdown
- Choose either ZZ9000 [Zorro II] or ZZ9000 [Zorro III] from the board list
- Enable the board with the "Enable Board" checkbox
- Ensure you have a compatible Kickstart ROM loaded and that Picasso96 is installed in your emulated Amiga
This is RTG emulation only — not whole-card emulation. The following ZZ9000 functions are outside this device model:
- Ethernet controller
- USB host controller
- Audio codec
- SD card slot
- ARM coprocessor / SDK functionality
- Video-capture input
- Optional Zorro III Fast RAM (the Z3 model provides VRAM only, not system RAM)
The emulation targets firmware 2.8 register ABI compatibility. Standard ZZ9000 Picasso96 drivers should work without modification. If you encounter issues with specific applications, verify the driver version matches the expected firmware level.
