Shogo-VR-1.2
True VR hands, weapon wheel, & game stability update
Hi ya'll! Got a new release for you guys here. I spent quite some time working on adding in true proper VR hands for both Sanjuro & MCA gameplay. It finally allows you to take full advantage of an earlier feature I added in a couple releases ago, two handed weapon aiming!
As always, you are able to toggle the default arms back on, or turn off all hands entirely if you prefer.
(Note: for now, all MCAs share the same hand models as I've only added in one set of mecha-hands, on top of that, two handing with MCA weapons is a bit whacky at the moment but generally gets the job done visually, I'll definitely work on improving it over time)
Real gangsters hold their MAC10 sideways

(Shotgun is still a bit wonky)
Aside from that, I've integrated quite a few fixes for a lot of crashes that I have experienced while playtesting over the weekend. The music engine had been causing some headache as every so often the music thread would free up some memory, the NVIDIA driver nvwgf2um would reuse it, music suddenly cuts out and the frame rate suffers quite a lot too and before ya know it boom the game crashes. You go to reopen the game, load a save, boom the game crashes. Certainly a little frustrating!
I resolved these two crash events by first checking to see if there was a memory leak, don't worry, there doesn't appear to be one. But as it turns out, both of these crash events are caused more or less by the type of same engine collision. The fix was to get the game's main thread & the music engine to operate on the same CPU thread together and make them take turns like how they normally did in the past. Two birds, one stone (hopefully)! Along with this, I noticed there was a fairly bad frame rate jutter stutter that appears to happen around 20 to 30 minutes of extended gameplay.
I have integrated a fix for that here so fingers crossed that that is also fixed for others as well. I have not encountered it in my playtesting but you may, and if you do please let me know and attach the following files to your bug reports, it really helps! You can find them inside of your ShogoVR mod folder
- ShogoVR_launch.log: what the launcher did.
- ShogoVRBridge.log: window, focus, capture and settings.
- ShogoVR_game.log: player mode, camera FOV, zoom, resolution and renderer events.
- ShogoVR_crash : a crash dump file
Hopefully ShogoVR is much more stable for us Shogo enjoyers!
As per usual, please confirm the following SHA256 sums :

If any of these do not match then it is not the mod I am distributing and you will need validate them separately.
If you have any of the older ShogoVR versions already in place and want to update, you can just delete that whole file and replace it with the "ShogoVR" folder in this latest zip to update, or go for an inplace copy-paste to keep your settings intact! Since ShogoVR is self contained, you won't have to worry about your save files being wiped
SHOGO VR - installing by hand
-
Copy the ShogoVR folder from this zip into your Shogo folder - the one
with Client.exe in it (for example ...\GOG Galaxy\Games\Shogo - Mobile
Armor Division, or ...\steamapps\common\Shogo Mobile Armor Division). It should look something like this :
Inside the folder, you should have ShogoVR.exe and ShogoVRBridge.exe
ShogoVR.exe is now only a settings window. Ut no longer starts the game.
Instead you will need to Shogo the normal way with -rez ShogoVR in Shogo's Advanced options
- Once only: open Shogo's own launcher (Shogo.exe), click Advanced..., put
-rez ShogoVR in the Command-Line box, tick "Always specify these
command-line parameters" and click OK.
-
Make sure you have SteamVR on and have connected your headset via Steamlink or via wired connection.
-
Start Shogo from the normal launcher
To remove Shogo VR, delete the ShogoVR folder. Everything else is in
ShogoVR\Shogo VR Guide.txt.
The manifest.json file here is setup for my new installer to pull newest versions of ShogoVR directly from my GitHub release page to make things easier for folks wanting to get into this mod. The installer does still need a bit of work when I get the free time to work on it again, but I wanted to get this release out for ya'll to enjoy :)
Even though the launcher has been changed from being a launcher to just a settings menu, you can still change all the things you could before. Your comfort VR settings, picture quality settings & controller button mapping abilities are still all there for you to tinker with.

Shogo-VR-1.1.3
Adding crash reporter, fixing jitter, improved visual clarity in the headset, launcher updates too
New crash reporter, in your ShogoVR folder, if/when it crashes, it'll generate a new DMP file called "ShogoVR_crash" in addition to what is already noted in ShogoVR_game.log, you can send those to me directly if you experience a weird crash.
New features!
-
I added two new aim markers, a laser + dot and just the dot alongside the normal reticle from before. The laser + dot can be a little buggy, sometimes the laser won't appear for a while but it eventually does.
-
Added recoil simulation, vibration feedback for your controllers,
-
Added a weapon wheel with your current ammo counts so that you can switch between weapons faster
-
No hands / Floating hands setting : completely removes Sanjuro's hands incase you wanted just the gun or did want just his hands but no arms. Works for each weapon.
I moved the picture quality settings over into its own new submenu in the launcher, it was feeling a little crowded in the VR settings tab and I felt like it didn't really belong there anymore either.
As per usual, please verify the file and make sure you are getting the mod that I'm distributing.
Run certutil -hashfile ShogoVR-Portable.zip SHA256 in your terminal and compare with my SHA256 hash below.
If it does not match it is not the right file and you should not use it under any circumstances.
SHA256 hash of ShogoVR-Setup.exe:
82e4c7aaf03a027b0b1ae1745c14ba20375b35bddafe1ee671fdf0bda3313d73
You can run it through VirusTotal, ESET-NOD32 results in a false flag as does the ShogoVR.exe itself

I decided to can the installer for now as it proved to be a bit buggy/unreliable, so I updated the SHA256 here from the initial 1.1.2 release to reflect that. Instead of the usual setup executable you'll just drag and drop ShogoVR from the zip file into your Shogo install folder. I will be reworking the installer from the ground up.
If you have any of the older ShogoVR versions already in place, you can just delete that file and replace it with this one to update
SHOGO VR portable version (no installer)

and press Play.
Shogo-VR-1.1.1-launcher Stability & Controller Rebind Patch
My ShogoVR launcher would often fail to start Shogo. It would crash with error 0xC0000005 at startup, or sometimes simply do nothing. This release changes how the launcher starts the game, so it now behaves exactly as if you'd started Shogo by hand. I hope this makes the launcher more reliable for people. If it does not then the ol'reliable way of launching Shogo with the -rez ShogoVR command would be the most reliable way to get into Shogo in VR.
Instead of running Client.exe itself as it was before, ShogoVR opens Shogo.exe and presses its Launch Shogo button for you. The game then starts with everything Shogo's launcher normally provides: your saved Advanced options (including -rez ShogoVR and any other mods), the same Windows permissions, and the same compatibility settings.
Starting Client.exe directly turned out to differ from this in ways that could crash the 1998 litchtech engine.
In my tests 19 / 20 times it launches properly. The first failure was after a fully clean installation of the mod where the -rez ShogoVR command likely was not present in the command line.
If it still won't launch you may need to manually add in the -rez ShogoVR command into the command line as seen here :

I am trying to minimize the amount of manual things you have to do here as best as I can

In Addition to launcher stability, I added a new rebind button menu for the launcher :
You can now rebind your VR buttons outside of the game more easily. For Quest 3 and 2 controllers specifically I recommend binding the access menu action to a button before you get too deep in a gameplay session!
Once again, to verify the file and make sure you are getting the file that I'm distributing run certutil -hashfile ShogoVR-Setup.exe SHA256 in your terminal and compare with my SHA256 hash below.
If it does not match it is not the same file and you should not use it

Shogo-VR-1.1 Launcher Patch
This patch fixes the launcher for ShogoVR to hopefully be more reliable. This patch has made it work a bit more smoothly for me in my testing, could be different for others though. If the launcher does not properly launch the mod please refer to the troubleshooting segment of the README

Download ShogoVR-Setup.exe below and run it.
The file isn't code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen will show "Windows protected your PC" until enough people have downloaded it. Choose More info -> Run anyway
A code-signing certificate would remove the warning, but it costs money each year and isn't necessary for a free mod.
