Brewtarget 5.1.2
Pre-releasePLEASE NOTE: This is a bug-fix release for people using PostgreSQL as their database (instead of the built-in SQLite database). If you are not using PostgreSQL, this does not give you anything over the 5.1.1 release.
Bug Fixes
- Brewtarget fails to update PostgreSQL database schema 1126
As ever, please don't hesitate to let us know if you hit problems.
Windows
- Download
Brewtarget 5.1.2 Windows Installer.exe. (Checksum for this file is inBrewtarget 5.1.2 Windows Installer.exe.sha256sum.)
The Windows build is digitally signed by SignPath.io, with a certificate by the SignPath Foundation. These services are provided free of charge to Brewtarget and other qualifying Open Source Software (OSS) projects.
Windows users, please note that some antivirus programs may block you installing Brewtarget -- eg Norton gives a FileRepMalware error. This is not a virus but "a tag that some popular antivirus suites assign to files with low reputation scores" (see https://www.thewindowsclub.com/what-is-filerepmalware). Brewtarget has a low score because it doesn't have millions of users. Provided you obtained the installer directly from GitHub, you should be OK to tell your antivirus system to ignore the error. See #968 and #1050 for more details.
Mac
GitHub builds for Mac run on ARM machines, so, if you have an Intel Mac, you will need to compile locally.
Apple don't want you to install software that hasn't been downloaded from one of their "approved" sources or that hasn't been digitally signed or notarised by someone paying them a subscription fee. So they are gradually making it harder and harder for you to do this. The following steps are the best way we know to get around these restrictions:
- Make sure you have Xcode installed from the Mac App Store (see https://developer.apple.com/support/xcode/)
- Download
brewtarget_5.1.2_MacOS.dmg. (Checksum for this file is inbrewtarget_5.1.2_MacOS.dmg.sha256sum.) - Mount this disk image by double clicking on the .dmg file
- Click and drag the file
brewtarget_5.1.2_MacOS.appto the Applications folder - Now open the Terminal (aka the console) and run the following:
$ cd /Applications
$ xattr -c brewtarget_5.1.2_MacOS.app
$ codesign --force --deep -s - brewtarget_5.1.2_MacOS.app
Hopefully the above enables you to run the app.
Linux
For Linux users, we offer "Deb" and "RPM" packages, as well as an AppImage and a Flatpak. For the packages, there are two versions of each type of package (deb and rpm). One version of each is built on Ubuntu 22.04 and the other on Ubuntu 24.04. Hopefully one or other should install on your system, but please open a new issue here on GitHub if you hit problems. The AppImage and Flatpak are built on Ubuntu 22.04.
If your version of Linux does not support deb or rpm packages, it may be that your distro maintainers provide a suitable package. (If you are a distro maintainer and there are things we can do to make it easier for you to include Brewtarget in your distro, please let us know!)
The packages built on Ubuntu 22.04 are:
brewtarget-5.1.2_22-1_amd64.deb(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2_22-1_amd64.deb.sha256sum)brewtarget-5.1.2_22-1.x86_64.rpm(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2_22-1.x86_64.rpm.sha256sum)
The packages built on Ubuntu 24.04 are:
brewtarget-5.1.2_24-1_amd64.deb(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2_24-1_amd64.deb.sha256sum)brewtarget-5.1.2_24-1.x86_64.rpm(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2_24-1.x86_64.rpm.sha256sum)
The AppImage is:
brewtarget-5.1.2.AppImage(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2.AppImage.sha256sum)
You should be able to run this directly.
The Flatpak package is:
brewtarget-5.1.2.flatpak(with checksum inbrewtarget-5.1.2.flatpak.sha256sum)
If you're familiar with Flatpak then you'll know what to do. If not, then, from the command line, if this is the first
time you're installing the flatpak version of Brewtarget, you run:
$ flatpak install brewtarget-5.1.2.flatpak
Conversely, if you've already installed a previous version of Brewtarget as a flatpak, then, instead, you run:
flatpak update --bundle brewtarget-5.1.2.flatpak
In both cases, you can then run the program as follows:
$ flatpak run beer.brewtarget.Brewtarget
Building the release from source
Download brewtarget-5.1.2.tar.xz. (Checksum for this file is in brewtarget-5.1.2.tar.xz.sha256sum.)
Exact instructions vary according to your operating system, but the following is a general guide. For BSD and non-Debian-based Linux systems, you will probably need to make minor changes to some of the build and packaging scripts. (If you have suggestions for improving these scripts to make them more generic, then please let us know!) The main code base should compile and run on any system that has a recent version of Qt and standard C++ libraries such as Boost. We recommend building with Meson, but, for local installs, we also support building with CMake.
Ensure you have a recent version of Python installed. (This is optional, but allows you to run the bt script that automates setting up the build process.)
Once you have uncompressed this, go to the brewtarget directory and run the following commands:
$ ./bt setup all
$ cd mbuild
$ meson compile
$ meson test
$ sudo meson install
If you also want to build the packages then run:
$ cd ..
$ ./bt package
See https://github.com/Brewtarget/brewtarget/wiki/Development:-Getting-Started and comments in the bt script for more details. If you hit problems, raise an issue here and we will do our best to help.
