Halo Checkpoint Manager v3.1.0
Currently only fully supports the most up-to-date version of MCC, with limited support for Season 7 and Season 8. Please head over to Burnts Tool Testing Zone discord to report bugs & crashes or for general feedback.

Important Reminder:
HCM must be closed before doing speedrun attempts. Any use of HCM (even if you don't have any cheats enabled) during a speedrun will disbar that run from submission to HaloRuns. Note that you can still use HCM for RNG-seed-injection in relevant games, but you must-- inject the seed, fully close HCM, then restart mission-- before doing attempts.

Change Log:

  • Added "Trigger Overlay" feature for all games, allowing you to visualise in-game trigger volumes.
    • Triggers change colours when the game script checks them, yellow when failed check, green when successful (player) check.
    • Messages on failed/successful check.
    • Messages on entering/exiting trigger.
    • Rendering a tiny indicator sphere at the players trigger-hit-vertex.
    • Many options for adjusting the visuals of the Trigger Overlay.
    • Trigger Filter: user can enter a semi-colon-seperated list of trigger names that they want to see.
      • Note that Two Betrayals and CE has an extra couple buttons in the Trigger Filter dialog to load a "preset" of BOOL triggers.
      • These presets are loaded dynamically from the pointer data.
        • If you would like to add a preset for any other level of any game, send me the list and I can make your preset show up for anyone!
    • Limitation: third-gen (H3/ODST/HR/H4) games introduced an infrequently used "Sector" type trigger that uses more complicated shapes. These still render properly, but the feature to print message on entering/exiting these "Sector" triggers doesn't work.
  • Added "Barrier Overlay" for third-gen games, allowing you to visualise the soft barriers that push you back inside the intended playspace.
    • Many options for adjusting the visuals of the Barrier Overlay and which barriers are displayed.
    • Limitation: In some games, some extra camera-only barriers will show up in the overlay that don't actually affect the player.
  • Added "Console Commands" for all games, allowing you to send HaloScript commands and use whatever functions the devs left in the game.
    • HUGE thanks to Scaless for reverse engineering the send-command function and letting me steal his GUI code. I couldn't have figured this out myself.
    • Some documentation on available commands can be found here.
    • Note that this documentation is incomplete (especially for H4), and some listed commands may be non-functional or instantly crash the game.
    • "game_speed" and "cheat_deathless_player" commands have been removed for speedrun-integrity reasons.
    • Limitation: Not all function output is captured properly, for example "print" and "help" commands only output properly for Halo1.
  • Added "Disable Barriers" feature for third-gen games, disabling those soft barriers that push you back inside the intended play-space.
  • The "Hide HCM Watermark/messages" feature is now available anytime (under "Control") instead of only during Free Cam.
  • User can now adjust the font size and colour of the HCM Message output GUI (under "Control").
  • "Switch BSP" feature now seperated into "Switch BSP Set" feature for third-gen games.
    • (Third gen games can have multiple BSP indexes loaded at once).
    • This is now reflected in "Display 2D Info" feature appropiately too.
  • Fixed issue where "Display 2D Info" font had a permenantly black outline even when you turned the opacity down.
  • Black outline on fonts now scales better with larger font sizes.
  • Replaced several float input fields with clamped-sliders (especially for font sizes). Note that you can still set exact values by ctrl-clicking.
  • Added button to copy player position to clipboard.
  • Vector options like position now deserialise to the minimum string length that can exactly represent them.
  • Fixed setting deserialisation issue where one invalid setting would cause all subsequent settings to not load properly.
  • Added ObservedEvent class so that certain game hooks don't get set unless they're actually needed.
    • This should improve stability/performance.
  • Many other small code changes to improve general stability.

Known Issues

  • Season 7 and Season 8 only have support for basic save management (checkpoint, revert, inject, dump etc) features. Except for Halo 2 Season 7 which has some extra support.
  • Game may freeze for a couple seconds when HCM shuts down, which has reportedly caused issues with OBS for some people.
  • Windows Defender sometimes flags HCM. This is probably because HCM uses DLL injection to insert its code into the game process, which is something real viruses use to inject malicious code into your OS. Not much I can do to fix this unfortunately.
  • Folder-file management system of HCMExternal sometimes gets messed up if you move/delete save folders.
  • Sometimes MCC freezes or crashes when you close HCM. Please send me your crash-dump files if one gets generated when this happens.
  • Turning on speedhack sometimes randomly crashes MCC.
  • OBS Bypass feature doesn't work for everyone.
