CraftFlint

A tiny data pack that adds a single shapeless crafting recipe:

2 Gravel → 1 Flint

Works in the 2×2 inventory grid, the crafting table and the crafter.

Why a 2:1 ratio and not 1:1?

Vanilla Minecraft already gives you two ways to turn gravel into flint at a 1:1 ratio:

  1. Mine it again and again. Gravel has a chance to drop flint when broken, so you can place it and break it over and over until every block has turned into flint. It works, but it costs a lot of time and effort.
  2. Trade with a Fletcher. Novice Fletcher villagers can offer 10 Gravel + 1 Emerald → 10 Flint. It's quick and easy, but it costs an emerald and you need a villager.

CraftFlint adds a third option: fast, but wasteful. The 2:1 inventory craft is meant for when you're impatient and don't want to spend time, effort or emeralds on your flint. A 1:1 craft would make both vanilla methods pointless, while a 2:1 ratio keeps them worthwhile: you choose between spending time, an emerald, or extra gravel.

It also makes sense from a lore point of view: this is the recipe your character uses when they're in a hurry. They want their flint right now, so they smash the gravel without much care and waste some of it along the way.

If you don't care about this balance and just want a 1:1 ratio, please look for another data pack. There are plenty of flint-crafting data packs out there, and you will surely find one that fits your needs.
