First-Run Setup

After install + Plasma restart:

  1. Right-click the desktop → Configure Desktop and Wallpaper…

  2. In the Wallpaper Type dropdown choose Wallpaper Engine for KDE.

  3. Open the Wallpapers tab inside the plugin's pane.

  4. Set the steamlibrary path — the folder that contains the steamapps/ directory. On a default Steam install:

    ~/.local/share/Steam

The plugin needs the parent of steamapps, not steamapps/ itself, and not steamapps/common/wallpaper_engine/.

  5. Wait a moment while the plugin scans your subscriptions.

  6. Click a wallpaper thumbnail → Apply. Your desktop should switch to it.

Where Workshop content lives

Steam downloads Wallpaper Engine Workshop subscriptions into:

<steamlibrary>/steamapps/workshop/content/431960/

(431960 is the Wallpaper Engine Steam appid.) The plugin reads from there. If the directory is empty or missing, Steam hasn't downloaded any Workshop wallpapers yet — see Subscribing to wallpapers.

Wallpapers on a second drive

Whichever drive's library contains steamapps/common/wallpaper_engine/, point the plugin at that drive's library root. You can confirm Steam recognizes the library in Steam → Settings → Storage.

If the list stays empty

See Troubleshooting → Wallpaper list is empty.
