SleekMenu 64 v2.2.1
Upgrading from 2.2.0: download the new Game Catalog Manager and press
Update card. It puts SleekMenu 2.2.1 on the card.
- EverDrive-64 Pro Fix: the card no longer stops answering. After a while
in SleekMenu, most often with music on or while going through games on
their details screen.
SleekMenu 64 v2.2.0
EverDrive-64 Pro owners: update to 2.2.1, which fixes the card no longer answering after a while.
Upgrading from 2.1: download the new Game Catalog Manager and press
Update card. It puts SleekMenu 2.2.0 on the card.
- Background music. Choose a song under Theme on the Card tab
(MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG) and SleekMenu plays it on a loop while you
browse. It fades out when a game starts. On the console, the new MUSIC
row of the Z screen turns it on or off. The Card tab's Console group
is now called Theme, with Colors and Music options. - Start the console in SleekMenu on the Pro and X7. The toggle on the
Card tab now works on the EverDrive-64 Pro with firmware 26.1014 or
newer. It copies SleekMenu toED64/menu.n64, which the Pro starts in
place of its own menu. Games started from SleekMenu then have no in-game
menu or save states. Uncheck the switch to get the Pro's menu back. On
the X7 it works as before, throughED64/autoexec.v64. - The box-art collection lives in
sleekmenu/.release-metadata.zip
is fetched into thesleekmenu/folder with everything else the Game
Catalog Manager keeps, and one at the card root is moved there by the
next update. Nothing is downloaded again. - Fixed a bug that prevented game loading from X7 when the card has screenshots.
Since 2.1, SleekMenu kept its four picture files open, and the X7 can only have
four files open at once, so every game failed with "ROM OPEN FAILED".
It now keeps one of them open at a time. - Cycle through games from a game's details. Left and right on the
D-pad go to the previous or next game. Hold it to run through them. The
box and the save type show up when you stop, and B goes back to the list
on the game you ended on. - Other minor fixes
SleekMenu 64 v2.1.1
Upgrading from 2.1.0: download the new Game Catalog Manager and press
Update card: it puts SleekMenu 2.1.1 on the card.
- EverDrive-64 Pro with firmware 26.1014: SleekMenu lists the card's games
again. That firmware starts SleekMenu with the outcome of its own last
command still standing, an error of no consequence, which SleekMenu took
as the cartridge failing and so started with no games. Older firmware
and the X7 are not affected. - Minor fixes
SleekMenu 64 v2.1.0
Upgrading from 2.0: download the new Game Catalog Manager and press
Update card once: it puts SleekMenu 2.1.0 on the card in place of 2.0.
To have screenshots, tick Fetch screenshots first.
On the console
- Screenshots: game's title screen and screenshot were added as two
thumbnails beside the facts on its details, and full size in the box
view, where left and right turn from the box to them. A game without
those assets will look as before. - Improved games scrolling : after three seconds it moves five games a step,
after six twenty. - Four more themes, making ten: Smoke and Watermelon complete the
Funtastic colours, with Atomic Purple and Gold. - The grid's covers are a bit sharper: each is shrunk to its tile by averaging
the pixels it covers, instead of dropping one column and one row in
three. - Hacks, translations and homebrew are tagged HACK, TL and HB on their
row and named on their details, and the filter page has a kind of game row.
The Game Catalog Manager
- Auto pull new version : Set up card and Update card put the
SleekMenu64.z64of the same release at the root of the card when the
card has an older one, or none, and keep the X7's start-up copy in step.
A newer one, or one of your own build, is left alone. Untick Keep
SleekMenu on the card up to date (or pass--keep-browser) to leave the
card's as it is. - The catalog manager tells you when a newer version is out, with a link to
the download. - Fetch screenshots, on the Card tab: the title screen and a moment of
play from libretro for every retail game, about 0.4 MB a game on the
card. Off until you tick it; the card remembers. On the command line,
--shotsand--no-shots. - Screenshots…, in the Games tab: a game's two screenshots as the
console shows them, and your own for either one, which no download
replaces. You can add your own screenshots for hacks and translations. - Each game type (retail, hack, translation, home-brew) is worked out
from the tags in its file name, its folder when it says, and what the
database knows of the game it was built on, so a card with every game
in one folder is sorted too. It is shown in the Games tab and searchable;
a wrong guess is corrected there and kept on the card. - While a card is updated, each step names everything it is working on:
boxes, screenshots and cheat codes fetched, covers and screenshots made. - Every text box has Cut, Copy, Paste and Select All on a right-click, and
on a Mac in the Edit menu too: a description can be pasted from the web
with the mouse. - A game copied on since the last update can be given its title, facts and
description before it is in the catalog: Save adds it to the card with
them.
SleekMenu 64 v2.0.0
Upgrading from 1.2: copy the new SleekMenu64.z64 over the old one at
the root of the card, download the Game Catalog Manager (the prep GUI,
under its new name), and press Update card once. Your catalog, boxes
and edits are kept.
The Game Catalog Manager
- A new name for the prep GUI and a more intuitive layout.
- One button. Set up card the first time and Update card after do
the whole job in one run: read the games, fetch what the card lacks,
build the catalog and the covers, write them. Four steps show where it
is; Stop ends it and the next run carries on from there. There is no
separate download to press first. - Sharp boxes by default: a 512-pixel box is fetched for every game the
database knows, and a card keeps them complete as games are added. - The Games tab shows the card as the console will and is where a game
is changed: its box as the console draws it, and its title, genre,
publisher, year, players, region and description in fields you type in.
Only what you change is written; Save puts it on the card at once, and
Undo my changes brings the original back. - Change box… offers the boxes libretro has for the game, one per
region, or a picture of your own; a PNG or JPEG can also be dropped
straight onto the box. One tick applies an edit to every version of the
game on the card. - Fetch cheat codes, on the Card tab: libretro's cheat file for the
exact dump of each game, for the many games the EverDrive's cheat pack
does not cover. Off until you tick it; the card remembers. - Theme, on the Card tab: the browser's colours, chosen from six.
On the console
- Themes: Midnight, Charcoal, Jungle, Grape, Fire and Ice. Midnight is the
look it always had. Z, then the THEME row under the filters, changes it;
so does the Game Catalog Manager. - The help bar shows each button as a picture in the button's own colour:
a blue A, a green B, a red Start, yellow C buttons with their arrow,
grey Z, L and R, a cross for the D-pad. - In the grid and coverflow the title bar spells the genre out (ACTION,
not ACT). - Cheats: a game the EverDrive's cheat pack has no file for, or none for
the cartridge's region, uses the file the Game Catalog Manager fetched
for it.
Fixes
- The window no longer takes a volume of macOS's own (Recovery, on the
Macs that keep it mounted) for the card when no card is in. - Boxes were missing for the revisions libretro files as a link to their
game's box (Castlevania Rev 1 is one of about 130). The link is followed;
a card that recorded those as missing asks again by itself. - With one games folder chosen, an edited game went on saying "Edit
waiting" after it was on the card. - A description of your own longer than the catalog allows stopped the
update. It is cut at a word. - An edit that changed only a game's regions was not shown as yours.
- A collection zip cut short on the card stopped every run; it is fetched
again. - The database had eight publishers spelled with a no-break space, and the
wrong genre for one Super Mario 64 dump.
The command line takes the same choices: --cheats, --no-cheats and
--direct-boot on|off.
Support
SleekMenu 64 v1.2.0
Upgrading from 1.1: copy the new SleekMenu64.z64 over the old one at
the root of the card. The card does not need preparing again.
- Coverflow glides: the shelf eases from cover to cover instead of
stepping, a press in the middle of a move turns it instead of restarting
it, and holding a direction keeps the shelf sliding, faster the longer you
hold. Holding the D-pad or stick now repeats in every view. - Coverflow uses the space under the shelf: the genre, year, publisher and
players on one line, the first two lines of the description, and a strip
of initials showing where you are and where L and R will jump. A longer
description creeps up slowly after five seconds on the same game. - Covers draw faster, and with an Expansion Pak the screen has a third
buffer, so a slow frame no longer halves the frame rate. - A cover could stay blank for good after moving twice quickly in the grid
or coverflow. It now arrives.
SleekMenu 64 v1.1.0
Upgrading from 1.0:
- download and copy the new
SleekMenu64.z64over the old one at
the root of the card - download the correct prep GUI version for your setup (or
sleekmenu-prep.pyzv1.1) - prepare the card once with the prep GUI (or
sleekmenu-prep.pyzv1.1)
A card prepared by 1.0 still browses, but only a 1.1 prepare gives it the box view's covers and the fixes below.
Note that the Prep GUI tool is unsigned on Mac so it will trigger a warning. You can open an unsigned app on macOS by attempting to launch it, then going to Settings under Privacy & Security in System Settings to click "Open Anyway"
Fixed
- Games are found anywhere on the card, not only in ROMS/ (or pick one folder in the GUI and it will be remembered)
- Some hacks that booted to black screens now properly: the header checksum is fixed at launch, like the EverDrive menu does
- Games with accents in their name (Pokémon…) showed up twice with weird characters and wouldn't start if the card was prepared on a Mac
- Long descriptions now scroll instead of being cut off. You can also scroll using d-pad up and down
- Everdrive X7: games that use the clock (Animal Forest) get it set at launch. Thanks TheDiscordian for the PR!
New features
- Start launches the game straight from the list, A still opens the details
- Box view: A on the details shows the box art full screen, with optional high-res boxes
- Games you copied since the last prepare show up anyway and play (marked NOT IN CATALOG, so no metadata and covers)
- High-resolution boxes: an option fetches libretro's 512-pixel boxes for
the box view; a card that has them keeps them complete from then on. - Your own box art and metadata, handy for hacks and homebrew (using the GUI)
- Version number on the start screen
The prep GUI
- The card is now prepared from a GUI, one download per system — working on macOS
(Apple silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux — with nothing to install.
Pick the card, press Download the first time to fetch the box-art
collection onto it, then Prepare. - The Catalog tab shows the card as the browser will: every game, its box
as the console draws it, and where each fact came from. Search narrows
the list; Show narrows it to what you changed, or to what is not in the
catalog yet. - Give any game, or every game with one game code, your own picture, text,
title, genre, publisher, year, players and regions. Save puts it on the
card straight away; Remove my edit puts the original back. - Prepare is incremental : only new or changed files are read.
SleekMenu 64 v1.0.0
Game browser for the EverDrive-64 X7 and Pro. Copy both files to the card root and see the README.
