Release list
Subtitle Muxer 0.2.0
Subtitle Muxer 0.2.0
Beta. Feature work is largely in place; this round is polish and day-to-day muxing. Still a pre-release. Please report issues.
This beta is for the mux you actually run: keep the target’s existing subs if you want them, edit a track’s title and flags before you hit Mux, cancel a job that is taking too long, and get a short reason when something fails instead of only “check the log.”
Copy subtitle tracks from a source video onto a target video (for example an original rip with softsubs onto an upscaled version that has none) with no re-encoding (stream copy). FFmpeg is bundled. No separate install is required for normal use.
Which file should I download?
| Platform | Download |
|---|---|
| Windows (portable) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-windows-portable.zip (extract and run the .exe) |
| Windows (installer) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-windows-setup.exe (run the Setup wizard) |
| Mac (Apple Silicon) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-mac-apple-silicon.tar.gz |
| Mac (Intel) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-mac-intel.tar.gz |
| Linux (Ubuntu) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-ubuntu.tar.gz |
| Linux (Debian) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-debian.tar.gz |
| Linux (Linux Mint) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-mint.tar.gz |
| Linux (Fedora) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-fedora.tar.gz |
| Linux (Arch) | SubtitleMuxer-0.2.0-arch.tar.gz |
Extract the archive if needed, then run Subtitle Muxer. On Windows you can run the Setup .exe to install instead.
What's new in 0.2.0
Added
- Pre-mux Keep both / Source only when the target already has soft subtitle tracks (skipped if it has none). Keep both retains the target’s existing subs and adds the selected Source tracks.
- Support window (header button beside About): Report an issue (GitHub issue template chooser) and manual Check for updates (GitHub Releases API; never on launch).
- After a successful mux: Open folder (reveals the file) and Play (system default player).
- Source and Target file dialogs remember their last folders independently between sessions (separate from the default save folder).
- Mux failures show a short reason (Permission denied, Disk full, or subtitle/container mismatch: try MKV) instead of only “check the log.”
- Cancel on the mux button while a job is running. Stops FFmpeg, logs that it was cancelled, and removes a half-written output file.
- Edit on a Source subtitle track: title, language (picked by name), Default, and Forced, written into the muxed file.
- Pre-mux duration mismatch warning when source and target lengths differ by 2+ seconds (confirm to continue).
- Pre-mux MP4 incompatibility warning when selected subtitle codecs are unlikely to stream-copy into MP4 (suggests MKV; confirm to continue).
- App icon in the title bar and About.
Fixed
- Windows title-bar icon uses the app
.icoinstead of the default Tk cube. - Subtitle track list no longer shows a scrollbar when nothing needs scrolling.
- Removed the duplicate app title/version and tagline from the main window body (version stays in the title bar and About).
- Block mux when Source and Target are the same file, or when the destination would overwrite either input.
- Windows Open folder after mux now opens the correct Explorer folder.
What's included
- Source and Target file pickers (browse or drag-and-drop)
- Subtitle track list (language, format, title); select which tracks to copy
- Edit for title, language (by name), Default, and Forced
- Remembered destination folder and filename
- Output as MKV (recommended) or MP4
- Built-in FFmpeg log panel
- About and Support (report an issue, manual update check)
- Bundled FFmpeg
Tips
- Prefer MKV when possible. Some subtitle formats (ASS, PGS, and others) do not copy cleanly into MP4.
- Soft subtitle tracks can be copied. Burned-in subtitles, or closed captions baked into the video stream, cannot be extracted this way.
- If a track does not appear in the list, that file likely has no separate subtitle streams.

Subtitle Muxer 0.1.1
Subtitle Muxer 0.1.1
Sorry about the mix-up on the first release. I labeled a Windows folder build as an “installer” when it wasn’t a real Setup program, and every platform download was wrapped in a zip even when that didn’t make sense. That was on me — this release corrects the packaging.
Copy soft subtitle tracks from a source video onto a target video (for example an upscaled encode) with no re-encoding — FFmpeg stream copy only. FFmpeg is bundled in the app.

| Windows (installer) | SubtitleMuxer-0.1.1-windows-setup.exe — real Setup wizard |
| Mac — Apple Silicon (M1 / M2 / M3 / …) | SubtitleMuxer-0.1.1-mac-apple-silicon.tar.gz |
| Mac — Intel | SubtitleMuxer-0.1.1-mac-intel.tar.gz |

| Linux — Fedora | SubtitleMuxer-0.1.1-fedora.tar.gz |
| Linux — Arch | SubtitleMuxer-0.1.1-arch.tar.gz |
Extract the archive if needed, then run Subtitle Muxer. On Windows you can run the Setup .exe to install instead. No separate FFmpeg install is required for normal use.
What’s fixed in 0.1.1
- Windows Setup.exe is a real installer (Start Menu / uninstall), not a zipped folder
- Windows portable stays a zip (room for extras later)
- Mac and Linux ship as
.tar.gzinstead of an unnecessary zip of a single binary
What’s included
- Source + target file pickers (browse or drag-and-drop)
- Subtitle track list with language / format / title; select which tracks to copy
- Remembered destination folder and filename
- Output as MKV (recommended) or MP4
- Built-in FFmpeg log panel
- About dialog with support link
Tips
- Prefer MKV when possible. Some subtitle formats (ASS, PGS, and others) do not copy cleanly into MP4.
- Soft subtitle tracks can be copied. Burned-in or video-baked captions cannot.
- If a track does not appear in the list, that file likely has no separate subtitle streams.
