This lab entailed setting up a basic Packet Tracer environment consisting of two switches, one router, one laptop, and one server. This is incredibly easy so I won't be adding anything here for that. The other part of the lab consisted of resetting the password on a CATALYST 3750 the instructions go as follows:
- Step 1: Connect the switch to a workstation and open it in PuTTY (according to its specific specs which can be found online.)
- Step 2: Disconnect the power cord while holding the mode button for around 10-15 seconds or until the SYST LED turns to solid green or the console appears on your workstation.
- Step 3: In the console type "flash_init", followed by "dir flash", then "rename flash:config.text flash:config.old", then "boot". If the initial configuration prompt appears, answer no.
- Step 4: Once NVRAM message appears, hit enter to get back to the "switch>" console, then type "enable" to get to the switch's version of a root (admin) user.
- Step 5: Configure the previous file back to it's original name: "rename flash:config.old flash:config.text
- Step 6: Then run "copy flash:config.text system:running-config". If prompted that this is the correct directory, hit ENTER.
- Step 7: Run "configure terminal" to enter the config menu. Then, run "enable secret" and "enable password" to set passwords. (example = "enable secret secret_password" and "enable password new_password") The secret is used as the enable or root user password, while the password is used as the main switch password.
- Step 8: Exit the config and run "write memory". NOW YOU ARE DONE!!!
