Lufia II Recompiled v0.9.2

This release adds a native Vulkan renderer alongside the existing SDL and OpenGL backends.

The game remains fully playable from start to finish, with Vulkan now available as an additional rendering option on supported systems.

What's new

  • Added a native Vulkan rendering backend
  • Vulkan can now be selected directly from the launcher
  • Vulkan shaders are compiled to SPIR-V during the build and embedded into the executable
  • Native Vulkan presentation support for the main game output
  • Vulkan rendering support for overlays
  • Vulkan support for Mode 7 rendering
  • Sharp bilinear scaling support in the Vulkan backend

Existing features

  • Native recompilation of Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
  • Fully playable from start to finish
  • Windows x64 and Linux x64 support
  • Steam Deck compatible
  • Widescreen support
  • SDL accelerated, SDL software, OpenGL 3.3 and Vulkan renderers
  • GLSL shader preset support for OpenGL
  • Rewind support
  • Fullscreen, aspect ratio and scaling options

Current limitations

  • Widescreen support is not yet available for every map
  • Battle scenes are presented in 4:3 with black margins
  • Save states are currently disabled
  • Soft reset is currently disabled
  • Some edge-case SNES timing behavior is still being validated

ROM

The original game ROM is not included.

A clean, headerless US ROM of Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals is required.

Lufia II Recompiled v0.9.1

A maintenance release that focuses on how the widescreen picture behaves
while the game moves between scenes.

The game remains fully playable from start to finish, and the project is
still a work in progress.

What's new

  • Widescreen holds through scene changes. Loading a room, opening a
menu or entering a battle used to leave the extended columns with
nothing to show. The last widescreen frame is now held there: it follows
the camera, fades out together with the scene, and gives way as soon as
the new one has taken over.
  • Transition effects cover the whole picture. The swirl and the mosaic
that introduce a battle now transform the complete widescreen frame
instead of splitting into two visibly different effects across the
    native and the extended columns.
  • Screenshots in the README.

Features

  • Native recompilation of Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
  • Fully playable from start to finish
  • Windows x64 and Linux x64 support
  • Steam Deck compatible
  • Widescreen support
  • SDL accelerated, SDL software and OpenGL 3.3 renderers
  • GLSL shader preset support
  • Rewind support
  • Fullscreen, aspect ratio and scaling options

Current limitations

  • Widescreen support is not yet available for every map
  • Battle scenes are presented in 4:3 with black margins
  • Save states are currently disabled
  • Soft reset is currently disabled
