Install / update
Requires Node.js 22.12+. Run in your document folder and update both the editor and installed skills:
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.6.0 install --agent all
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.6.0 open "./document.html"Use --agent claude or --agent codex to install one skill, then start a new AI conversation. This feature uses local connected mode. Existing HTML review v1/v2 remains compatible. Original requests and review history stay in the document-local .htmledit/ folder and are excluded from exported HTML.
Input limits: 10 MiB per file and 200,000 extracted characters. DOCX body text only; audio, PDF and legacy DOC are unsupported.
Verification
98 unit tests, 134 Windows Chrome/Edge browser tests, and 67 Chrome tests each on Ubuntu/macOS, plus packaged installation checks. Actual interactive Codex and signed-in Claude Code independently analyzed synthetic free-form requests and applied only three browser-approved notes on Windows; backup, automatic refresh and clean export were verified. Actual AI verification and platform CI are separate evidence.
Usage · AI verification · PR #4
Published-package verification: npm latest is 1.6.0; registry signature and provenance attestation verified. Both installed skills and request CLI passed on Windows Node.js 22.17.0. The npm tarball, GitHub asset and SHA256SUMS match: cdf97b4a1a4980c8ba3e70661c3ed26ef7db853530642d31e2ca40c598718450.
CI history: the final PR and tag matrices passed on all three platforms. The first post-merge run had a macOS anchor-scroll assertion failure and a Windows temporary-folder cleanup failure. Both jobs passed on one rerun with unchanged code; these intermittent test failures remain recorded in the workflow history.
HTMLEdit 1.5.1 — Safari editing and reliable save/copy
HTMLEdit 1.5.1 — Safari editing and reliable save/copy
Safari can now select document elements and open the inline text editor while keeping document scripts disabled. The fixes preserve 1.5.0 multi-selection, immediate batch deletion and joint notes.
- Use a parent-owned event surface when Safari blocks listeners in the sandboxed preview; keep Ctrl/Cmd selection, Delete and one-step undo/redo working without duplicate keyboard handling.
- Start clipboard permission handling during the click gesture and provide the AI request only after saving succeeds. Failed saves and conflicts preserve the previous clipboard.
- Correct Home/End scrolling in Safari and retain nested scrolling, note-marker positioning and responsive-width previews.
- Preserve review v1/v2, target IDs and joint-note metadata. No review-format migration is required.
Verification
The integrated candidate passed 86 unit tests on Windows, Ubuntu WSL2 and macOS; 132 Windows Chrome/Edge browser cases; and 66 Chrome cases on each of Ubuntu and macOS. Package lifecycle checks and formatting passed.
On the physical Mac, actual Safari 18.6 passed multi-selection, batch delete/undo/redo, joint-note save/reopen, clipboard and download, image editing, scrolling and controlled save-failure/conflict checks. Actual Claude followed the installed skill's checkout/apply procedure in WSLg Chrome, Mac Chrome and Safari, preserving both joint targets and verifying backups and automatic refresh. See the integration record for hashes, environment versions and evidence limits.
Earlier manual tests separately confirmed Safari click/double-click and Korean IME input/apply in Safari and WSLg. WSL required IBus Hangul configuration. Native picker checks were historical and were not repeated for this patch; picker code is unchanged. Windows Chrome/Edge remain primary, with other platform claims limited to the recorded environments.
Update
Run outside the HTMLEdit source checkout:
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.5.1 install --agent allSave work and stop/reopen old editor sessions to load the new runtime. Existing skills and already-running servers are not automatically replaced. Documents and backups are preserved. Use --agent claude or --agent codex to update one skill.
Publication follows main CI, then tag v1.5.1, then GitHub Actions OIDC trusted publishing. No local npm publish is used.

v1.5.1,.github/workflows/release.ymland the source commit above. - A fresh isolated public-registry installation passed both skill installations and a v2 joint-note
status → checkout → apply → statussmoke, preserving both target IDs, original bytes and exact backup bytes. This is a deterministic publication smoke, separate from the actual Claude candidate verification described above. npm audit signatures: one verified registry signature and one verified attestation. A separate npm cache was used after initial stale registry metadata delayed discovery of the new version.
Existing user skill installations and running editor sessions were preserved. Update and reopen as described above to load 1.5.1.
HTMLEdit 1.5.0 — Joint notes and immediate deletion
HTMLEdit 1.5.0 — Joint notes and immediate deletion
Select several elements with Ctrl+click (or Cmd+click) and leave one request covering the entire group. Every target shows the same note number. For example, select two headings and ask the AI to swap their positions.
- Click normally to select one element; Ctrl/Cmd+click adds or removes targets.
- Del deletes the selected elements without confirmation. Ctrl/Cmd+Z restores the entire deletion in one step. The delete buttons use the same behavior. Text inputs, inline editors, dialogs and Interact mode are protected from element deletion.
- Joint notes retain all target IDs, expose missing targets and can be reassigned. AI apply preserves the entire target list and only completed requests should be marked done.
- Multiple selection supports joint notes and batch deletion. Text, color, size and image editing continue to use one selected element.
- UI, error messages, AI request text and documentation cover all five existing languages.
Compatibility and update
Single-target reviews continue to use review v1. Files containing joint notes use review v2. Older runtimes explicitly reject v2 rather than silently dropping targets. Update both the editor runtime and the skills that process its notes:
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.5.0 install --agent allRun this outside the HTMLEdit source checkout. Use --agent claude or --agent codex to update one skill. Save current work, stop the old editor session when finished, and reopen with the updated runtime. Existing servers keep their loaded code until restarted. Original documents, review files, candidates and backups are preserved. HTML containing only v1 notes remains compatible with previous releases; a v2 file requires the new runtime. Final HTML exports remove either metadata version.
Verification
Local checks: build and formatting, 82 unit tests, 114 Windows Chrome/Edge regression cases, 16 final focused cases across five languages, built CLI v2 checkout/apply and package lifecycle smoke. An actual user-created joint note was interpreted by this Codex session: two heading elements were swapped, both IDs and the entire note were preserved, only the fulfilled request was completed, and backup bytes and Chrome rendering were verified. See the detailed evidence and limits.
The platform scope is unchanged. Windows Chrome/Edge remain primary; Linux/macOS launchers and pickers remain experimental. CI runs on Windows, Ubuntu 24.04 and macOS 15. These automated checks do not substitute for native Safari, native file-picker interaction, or a new actual Claude verification. Publication uses tag-triggered GitHub OIDC trusted publishing; no local npm publish is required.

1682a9a2894a7d9271d5d4306de4cc6535bc5989. - Main CI: Windows, Ubuntu 24.04 and macOS 15 passed. Each ran 82 unit tests; Windows ran 114 Chrome/Edge cases, Ubuntu and macOS each ran 57 Chrome cases. All passed package lifecycle checks.
- The first macOS run exposed a test input mismatch (literal Control+click rather than Cmd+click). The final commit uses the platform-native modifier and passes all macOS cases; the application selection code was unchanged by that correction.
- Actual Codex joint-note interpretation, candidate-only editing, target preservation, completed-note marking, exact backup and rendering evidence are recorded in the verification document.

HTMLEdit 1.4.1 — Table-of-contents navigation fix
HTMLEdit 1.4.1 — Table-of-contents navigation fix
Clicking a table-of-contents link such as #section in Interact mode could navigate the preview frame to the editor's localhost address, replacing the document with a connection or frame-loading error. HTMLEdit now scrolls to the target inside the document. Switching back to Edit directly keeps that scroll position.
- Supports element IDs, percent-encoded IDs, legacy named anchors and empty/top fragments. Missing targets leave the document open.
- Preserves the document's links when saving. External navigation restrictions and iframe isolation remain in place.
- No review-format, file-path or checkout/apply changes. Documents and notes do not need migration.
Update
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.4.1 install --agent allUse --agent claude or --agent codex to update one skill. Save your work and reopen the editor in a new session after updating; an already-running server keeps its loaded runtime. Originals, review files and backups are preserved.
Verification
Local build, formatting and 78 unit tests passed. Chrome and Edge passed 10 interaction cases plus two connected-frame API isolation cases. An actual nine-section document was checked in Edge: every table-of-contents link scrolled correctly, and returning to direct editing preserved the current section. The user's private document is not included in the repository.
The platform scope remains unchanged: Windows Chrome/Edge are primary; Linux/macOS remain experimental, with the previously documented manual Safari/native-picker checks outstanding. Publication uses the existing tag-triggered GitHub OIDC trusted-publishing workflow.
Release validation
- Main CI: Windows, Ubuntu 24.04 and macOS 15 passed for commit
92d62cbc19fe9ad598ec7f7aa7ca944b8cfa2410(78 unit tests per platform; 98 Chrome/Edge cases on Windows, 49 Chrome cases on each other platform; package lifecycle checks). - The initial macOS visual comparison differed at two link-edge pixels by 7/255; the measured rendering tolerance is documented in the repository verification record.
- One Ubuntu CI attempt missed the first anchor scroll. The unchanged source passed 20 local Ubuntu repetitions and the Ubuntu CI rerun; the original failed attempt remains available. This was not counted as a first-attempt pass.
- Trusted-publishing workflow is triggered by
v1.4.1. No local npm publish was used.
Published package verification
npm latest is 1.4.1, published by GitHub Actions with OIDC provenance tied to the release tag and exact source commit. Isolated registry installation and CLI startup passed; npm audit signatures verified the registry signature and attestation.
The npm and GitHub tarballs are byte-identical and match SHA256SUMS. SHA-256: 988c92cc4f42f9ccdd052d8bf0c83441907c271ef7ddd5bf844229e0c802764c.
HTMLEdit 1.4.0 — Image insertion
HTMLEdit 1.4.0 — Image insertion
Select where an image belongs, bring it in from a local file, a direct image URL or the clipboard, and preview it before applying. Images are embedded in the HTML so the same file can be handed to Claude Code or Codex for further layout changes.
- Insert before, after or at the end inside a selected element. Invalid insertion positions are disabled.
- Set proportional width, left/center/right alignment and alternative text. Cancel the preview or apply it as one undo step.
- Replace existing images using the same file, URL and paste inputs while preserving their layout styles.
- PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF are supported, up to 10MB per image and 25MB for the entire saved HTML. URL downloads follow browser access restrictions; use a file or paste if a site blocks retrieval.
- Korean, English, Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese interfaces and guides are included. Review format v1 and the existing checkout/apply workflow are unchanged.
Update
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.4.0 install --agent allRun outside the source checkout. Use --agent claude or --agent codex for one skill. Reopen the editor and start a new AI session after updating; existing editor sessions keep their previous runtime. Save your current work before switching sessions. Originals, working files and backups are preserved.
Validation and platform scope
Local validation passed 78 unit tests on Windows, Ubuntu WSL2 and a physical Apple Silicon Mac; 96 browser tests on Windows Chrome/Edge and 48 each on Linux and Mac Chrome; and package installation/lifecycle checks on all three platforms. An actual Codex checkout/apply test verified image-note interpretation, automatic browser refresh, preserved image bytes, a matching backup and clean export. See verification details.
Windows Chrome/Edge remain the primary supported environment. This release also includes experimental Linux/macOS browser launchers and native document pickers, plus a macOS runtime reinstall fix for aliased paths. Automated coverage used Ubuntu 24.04 WSL2 and macOS 15.6.1 Apple Silicon Chrome. Safari and manual native-picker operation remain unverified; these results do not certify other Linux desktops, Intel Macs, or unattended native AI sessions. Translations have not had native-speaker review.
Publication uses the existing GitHub tag-triggered OIDC trusted-publishing workflow. The GitHub release tarball is downloaded from npm and accompanied by SHA256SUMS.

HTMLEdit 1.3.0
HTMLEdit 1.3.0
Use HTMLEdit in Korean, English, Spanish, Japanese, or Brazilian Portuguese, from installation and editing to element-linked notes and AI handoff.
- Translated editor controls, diagnostics, CLI help, examples, and installation/use/troubleshooting guides.
- Automatic language detection and a language picker. Switching languages preserves selections, unsaved text and notes, and undo history.
- Connected language preferences persist across documents and ports. CLI
--langsupports temporary overrides. - User HTML, note content, filenames, target IDs, and review format version 1 remain unchanged. Earlier 1.2.2 review files remain compatible.
- English Claude Code and Codex skill instructions guide responses and button names in the user's language.
Install or update
Run outside the HTMLEdit source checkout with Node.js 22.12 or newer:
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.3.0 install --agent all
npx --yes @woody_s/htmledit@1.3.0 open "./document.html"Use --agent claude or --agent codex for one skill. Start a new editor session after updating, and a new AI session if the updated skill is not listed.
Validation
- 51 unit tests and 82 browser tests across Windows Chrome and Edge passed locally, plus packaged installation/workflow smoke checks.
- Actual Codex and separate Claude Code workflows each applied five multilingual notes using checkout/apply. Independent file checks, backups, automatic refresh, and clean exports passed.
- Claude's successful test used user-selected manual approval mode. It does not claim that the separate CLI API-key issue or automatic approval restriction was fixed.
- No native-speaker translation review was performed. Windows Chrome and Edge remain the supported desktop environment.
See verification details and the five-language documentation.
