ChrisDaDriver V3 – Display Power Management & Dynamic Configuration
Release Notes v3.0 – Display Power Management & Dynamic Configuration
New Features & Enhancements
Short-Press Display Toggle (Power Management):
A quick short-press on BTN0 now toggles the display backlighting on and off.
When turned off, display brightness is dropped to DISPLAY_BRIGHTNESS_DIMMED to conserve battery during long war-driving runs.
Re-activating the display instantly restores full operational brightness and redraws the UI without interrupting active logging tasks.
Dynamic File-Based Configuration System (config.txt):
The application now automatically scans for /ChrisDaDriver/config.txt on the SD card at boot.
If missing—or if an older config version is detected—a new default configuration file is automatically generated and uses the User configuration of the old version.
Fully customizable options via SD card:
Hardware Pins: Custom pin mappings for GPS (RX/TX), SD card (CS/MOSI/SCK/MISO), and LoRa.
Scanner Tuning: Custom BLE scan intervals/windows and WLAN channel hop timing.
UI & Controls: Display brightness levels (active/dimmed) and long-press time thresholds.
How to Upgrade
- Flash the new firmware (v3.0).
- Boot the device with an inserted SD card; the directory structure /ChrisDaDriver/ and the default config.txt will be created automatically.
- Edit /ChrisDaDriver/config.txt on your SD card if custom hardware pins or scan timings are needed.
ChrisDaDriver V2.5
Release Notes v2.5 – Stability, GPS & Capture Pipeline Enhancements
Full NMEA Message Activation:
Enabled the complete set of standard NMEA sentences (GGA, GLL, GSA, GSV, RMC, VTG, ZDA) via hardware configuration (CASIC / PCAS03). Improves satellite tracking diagnostics, fix reliability, and detailed telemetry data.
Fix-Gated Packet Processing & Crash Prevention:
Deferred all Wi-Fi and BLE beacon processing until a valid GPS fix is established. Prevents buffer overruns and system reboots/crashes in environments with high BLE device density during initial GPS acquisition.
Enhanced Status Feedback ("Waiting for GPS"):
Introduced a dedicated UI status box during boot and signal search phases. Clearly indicates system readiness and prevents premature data capture before location lock.
V2.0
Release Notes v2.0 Architecture and Performance Optimizations Efficient Deduplication: Replaced std::set with a custom FlatHashSetUint64 implementation using open addressing. Eliminates RAM fragmentation and achieves processing speeds of ~22 entries per second.
H + 3 GPS Signal Fallback: Utilizes last-verified coordinates (safeLat, safeLng) during temporary GPS signal loss to prevent dropped scan data in urban canyons or covered areas.
Unbekannt + 2 Dynamic Memory Protection: Integrated automated cache flushing when free heap memory drops below the 40 KB threshold or table limits are reached.
Unbekannt + 2 Diagnostic Overlay: Toggleable runtime diagnostic screen showing free heap, SD queue load, and GPS satellite status via the physical D key.
Unbekannt + 1 SD Card Benchmarking & File System: Measures write latency on boot to dynamically scale the buffer queue limit (maxSdQueueSize). Automatically provisions directory paths (/ChrisDaDriver/WarDrive/).
Unbekannt + 2 UI and Hardware Controls: Added explicit status indicators ("Driving"), explicit LoRa CS pin pull-up to prevent SPI bus interference, and automatic count formatting for device metrics (>10,000 units)
