Halo CE Steam Frame VR Mod 1.4.3
Download Halo-Steam-Frame-Mod-Setup-1.4.3.exe below. This is the only file you need on Windows 10/11 x64; its runtime and USB tools are included.
Promotes the headset-tested 1.4.3-Test9 gameplay patch, with the same engine-patch bytes and public version labels.
- Menus and reticle: opening a menu hides the gameplay hands and weapon while keeping the right-controller pointer and Xbox navigation. The panel stays upright when your head tilts. Valid offscreen controller poses remain tracked; missing poses hide the reticle until recovery instead of snapping it to the center.
- Warthog driving: hold A for forward, hold B to brake, and use the left stick to steer. Backward selects reverse. B takes priority over gas/reverse. Optional two-grip steering uses the same gas/brake buttons. Ghost, Scorpion, Banshee and passenger/gunner controls retain their vehicle-specific handling.
- Vehicle view: authored seat placement, a separate seated reference, full hull tilt/bounce, and free physical head movement. Acceleration-animation camera sway is excluded; the occupied Warthog windshield is cleared locally.
- Aiming: controller hands remain tracked during first-person scripted arrivals. Experimental gun-mounted optics are removed; stock zoom and direct aiming are restored. Pause → VR Setup opens the existing settings. Physical melee is enabled by default on Install/Repair.
- Rendering: both eyes contribute to near-camera visibility bounds. Invalid framebuffer targets retry without submitting incomplete frames. Unfinished GPU slots receive fresh storage, and the compositor uses the exact eye pose from the rendered frame.
- Installer: fixes oversized remote command arguments and compiler/linker PATH resolution. Native builds run the current 22 engine checks. A temporary idle/sleep inhibitor protects compilation when available; interruption and unconfirmed remote cancellation are reported accurately, and another build cannot start over an existing installer build.
Update an existing installation: close Halo, select its current Internal/SD storage location, then choose Repair. Verified maps are reused without another ISO. Existing 1.4.x profiles and saves remain on that location. SD installation, Steam artwork/Notes, standing/snap defaults and the earlier tutorial, flashlight and sun-glow fixes are included.
Engine source remains 2ae0ee4e3e8a4dfdadfd528a5b085ca699fc9ea4, native peer protocol 17. Use matching builds/maps for LAN/online campaign co-op. Retail PC and Custom Edition servers remain incompatible; Internet play has no relay and may be blocked by restrictive NAT. 1.3.5 checkpoints are retained but require a new profile/campaign when upgrading.
The tester confirmed Test9 worked on their Frame. Local checks passed 1,034 installer tests (14 skipped), all 22 engine checks, ARM64 compilation/partial linking and the frozen EXE smoke test. No measured FPS improvement or complete hardware/multiplayer matrix is claimed.
Thanks to the upstream native port and astromaddie's HaloCE-VR work, plus Dime's installer fixes. See the source and third-party notices for exact revisions and attribution.
Supply your own authorized original Xbox Halo CE data. No retail executable, ISO, maps, keys or soundtrack is bundled or downloaded. Halo identification artwork and licensed components retain their notices. This is a community mod, unaffiliated with Microsoft, Bungie or Valve.

With a trusted GitHub CLI, authenticate the download:
gh attestation verify Halo-Steam-Frame-Mod-Setup-1.4.3.exe --repo ClassicWasTaken/HaloSteamFrameMod --signer-workflow ClassicWasTaken/HaloSteamFrameMod/.github/workflows/build.yml --source-ref refs/heads/main --source-digest 5423d04c5511165c91433cc92305c987e4532a7f --deny-self-hosted-runnersThe EXE has no Windows Authenticode certificate. Build provenance identifies its authorized repository/workflow origin; it cannot protect against compromise of that identity or your local account. Verify first-use SSH fingerprints instead of accepting an unexpected Frame key.
GitHub verification passed: Linux and Windows tests, rootless-container checks, the full native ARM64 OpenXR compile/link, and the Windows EXE build/smoke test. The downloaded EXE also passed fresh repository/workflow/source-commit attestation verification.
Halo CE Steam Frame VR Mod 1.4.2
Download Halo-Steam-Frame-Mod-Setup-1.4.2.exe below. This is the only file you need on Windows 10/11 x64; its runtime and USB tools are included.
This patch includes the tester-confirmed SD-card option and front-facing VR menus, plus the reviewed installer issue fixes.
- SD card: click Refresh storage on Connect Frame, choose the mounted card, then Install. Install, Repair and Uninstall use the selected drive. The SD copy has its own Steam entry and fresh saves; your internal copy and saves are kept. Use an executable ext4/f2fs card with 12 GiB free. Setup stops if the selected card changes; it does not format cards or silently fall back to internal storage.
- VR menus: opening a menu places it in front of your current headset pose. It stays steady while open and refreshes on reopening, recentering or tracking restoration.
- Cancellation and progress: completed cancellations have a cancellation status; cleanup and remote-stop failures still require attention. Password redaction no longer interferes with phase progress (#10, #12).
- Steam preferences: re-adding the shortcut preserves existing hidden/overlay/controller and devkit choices while retaining the VR library flag (#11).
- Configuration and recovery: unusual TOML input is rejected clearly without replacing preferences. Interrupted legacy upgrades recover only from corroborated owned backups and hashes, preserving both save generations and custom save locations, including on the selected SD card (#13, #18).
- SSH and USB: silent exec/SFTP handshakes are bounded and cancellable; continuous or newline-free output cannot grow the unfinished-line buffer indefinitely or starve Cancel. Automatic USB setup prefers the verified bundled ADB tools and rejects damaged bundles (#19, #20, #21).
- Build provenance: the container image, musl archive, SDL commit, LLVM primary signing identity and bundled Paramiko source archive are pinned. The public EXE has GitHub's signed workflow/source attestation. Signed Ubuntu/LLVM 22 package maintenance updates remain enabled and logged; no hermetic or reproducible-build promise is made (#22 policy).
Existing game: close Halo, select the storage location where it is installed, and choose Repair. Verified maps are reused without another ISO. Xbox-style buttons, standing/snap defaults, tutorial fixes, render-rate aiming/flashlight, stereo sun glow and LAN/online campaign co-op are retained. The engine source remains 2ae0ee4e3e8a4dfdadfd528a5b085ca699fc9ea4, native peer protocol 17. This patch keeps the 1.4 save format; 1.3.5 checkpoints remain incompatible and retained in their original locations.
The tester confirmed the private SD/menu build worked. The new recovery, transport and trust-boundary regressions use synthetic/local fixtures; that confirmation does not establish measured FPS, every hardware recovery scenario or a complete multiplayer matrix.
Thanks to Dime (@dime-online) for the reviewed fixes in PRs 14–17 and 23–25. Their changes are integrated with the SD-card checks and additional recovery/cancellation regressions.

Halo CE Steam Frame VR Mod 1.4.1
First-mission VR tutorial fixes, smoother unarmed flashlight tracking, and clearer setup completion.
Download
Download only Halo-Steam-Frame-Mod-Setup-1.4.1.exe. Windows 10/11 x64; runtime and USB transfer tools are included.
What's fixed
- The unarmed reticle follows the aiming hand. Look-at-person objectives use headset gaze, and the five tutorial calibration dots also accept the hand reticle.
- Cryopod look calibration accepts headset movement and snap/smooth turning, with tracking and recenter safeguards.
- Tutorial Back no longer also triggers mapped melee and other gameplay actions. Failed OpenXR queries cannot reuse an old valid pose.
- The unarmed flashlight uses the rendered controller pose, bounded aim and matching light bounds instead of the slower simulation attachment. Equipped-weapon flashlight markers retain their behavior.
- Install and Repair apply standing mode and snap turning, while keeping other preferences.
- The missing VR function reference that caused a final-link build failure is corrected. Long build errors retain their useful summary.
- Normal Install and Repair show Complete at 100% when only the optional Steam icon readback remains. Icon details stay in the activity log; required failures stay actionable.
Updating
Save and close Halo, keep Steam Home/SteamVR running, then choose Repair. Setup reuses verified Xbox maps and keeps existing 1.4.0 profiles/checkpoints in save-v1.4. Compilation on the Frame still takes time.
An upgrade from 1.3.5 keeps its old files/saves, but its checkpoints are incompatible with the 1.4 engine; create a new profile/campaign. LAN/online co-op partners need matching native protocol-17 builds. Retail Halo PC/Custom Edition servers are not supported by this release.
The new tutorial and flashlight behavior still needs headset verification. Automated checks establish software/build coverage, not physical beam placement or Frame performance.
Supply your own authorized original Xbox Halo CE data. No retail game executable, ISO, maps, keys or soundtrack is bundled or downloaded. Halo identification artwork and third-party software retain their rights and notices.

1.3.5 — VR Mod uninstall and connection fixes
Halo CE Steam Frame VR Mod 1.3.5
Download only DOWNLOAD THIS FILE — Halo-Steam-Frame-Mod-Setup-1.3.5.exe. This is the complete Windows mod installer; no separate ZIP or Python installation is needed.
This patch fixes interrupted uninstall recovery, renamed native Steam entries, and errors during cancellation or connection cleanup.
- Resume an interrupted uninstall. Running Uninstall again can finish verified unfinished game folders from an earlier attempt, including when the main folder is already gone or Halo has been reinstalled. Setup verifies its private operation record and the remaining folder's identity before deleting files. Verified campaign save backups stay in place and their paths are reported. Unverified or changed folders are kept and reported as removal pending at 99%, rather than success or “already absent.”
- Remove renamed Steam entries. Uninstall matches the exact native Halo executable regardless of the entry's title. Unrelated games and similarly named entries remain untouched. Invalid native shortcut IDs stop removal before library-file writes or game deletion; existing backup and artwork-preservation safeguards remain in place.
- Preserve cancellation and failure messages. A failed stop request or disconnect no longer hides the operation's original error. Setup tries to stop a prepared build after cancellation, timeout, or a connection failure. If the existing stop request fails, setup makes one bounded recovery connection using the previously approved host key to stop that exact installer run. If remote stopping cannot be confirmed, setup explicitly warns that the build may still be running and displays the exact Frame-terminal command to stop it before retrying.
- Separate connection cleanup from the game outcome. If game installation or removal succeeds but connection cleanup fails, setup retains the result and shows a separate actionable warning at 99%. It does not claim complete disconnection or undo a completed game operation. USB cleanup remains limited to this operation's temporary forward; the shared ADB server and unrelated forwards are preserved.
Thanks to dime-online for contributions #7, #8, and #9, addressing issues #1, #2, and #3. This release builds on those fixes with additional verification and explicit pending states.
The pinned native ARM64/OpenXR source, Xbox controls, tutorial patch, automatic Steam artwork/Notes, music preview, USB/network transfer, and Steam Home safeguards remain unchanged. The mod is experimental. Interrupted-removal recovery, cancellation recovery, direct USB transfer, full uninstall, a fresh first install, and newer Steam banner/logo/icon/Notes still need physical Frame verification.
Supply your own authorized original Xbox Halo CE data. USA Rev 2 is validated; other retail revisions need supported map headers. PC, Xbox 360 Anniversary, MCC, and Quest game-data inputs are unsupported. No retail game executable, disc image, maps, product keys, or soundtrack is included or downloaded, and setup provides no game-download links. Halo identification artwork and licensed software retain their rights and notices; see the third-party guide.
The EXE is unsigned. Its SHA256 appears below. Matching source and third-party notices remain available for rebuilding. GitHub's automatic source downloads are optional for developers.

Local validation: 560 passed, 11 platform skips, and 21 passing subtests. The standalone EXE passed offline startup and resource checks. Its embedded icon images match the original ICO exactly; the window PNG retains the source frame pixels. Packaged resources, checksums, and source match the checked release files.
The Windows, Linux, and ARM64 CI run passed all four jobs, including the frozen Windows executable and package installation in the rootless ARM64 Ubuntu container with no-new-privileges. Automated checks do not establish additional physical Frame validation.
