SpaceSharp 1.2.0

Version 1.2.0 is about finding things. Earlier versions showed you the map; this one lets you ask it questions, pick out what you want to remove, and clear it in one go.

Find what's eating your space

• Filter box. Type it the way you'd say it: videos over 500MB not touched in 2 years, .iso, installer. Everything that doesn't match fades out while the layout stays put, so you can see where the matches are. Prefer clicking? The funnel button opens a panel with quick filters, type chips and size and age drop-downs.
• Select matches, then Del. One keystroke selects every matching file; one more sends them all to the Recycle Bin.
• Side panel. Your drives with usage bars on the left; click one to scan it. Below them, the largest files, largest folders and space by file type. Click a row to jump to it.
• Multi-select. Ctrl+click and Shift+click, a combined size in the status bar, and one Recycle Bin operation for everything selected.
• Hover details. Rest the mouse on a box for size, size on disk, file count, type and last modified date.

Make it look the way you like

• Six map styles: Classic, Tiles, Cards, Bands, Terraces and Soft. Pick one in the toolbar or press S to cycle.
• Readability options: three label sizes and outlined labels that stay legible on any color.
• Folder chains like Steam › steamapps › common now merge into one title even when a few small files sit alongside.
• A redesigned scanning dialog with a real progress bar for whole-drive scans.

SpaceSharp 1.1.1 adds installers with automatic updates. Pick whichever download suits you.

Both installers keep SpaceSharp up to date: when a new version is out, the app offers to install it, and the update takes a few seconds. The portable exe doesn't update itself; download the new version when you want it.

To install to a folder of your choice, run the setup from a terminal:

SpaceSharp 1.1.0

SpaceSharp 1.1.0 makes the numbers more accurate, the map calmer, and puts every option in one settings window.

More accurate sizes

• Size on disk. Switch between file size and size on disk in Settings. Size on disk uses the compressed size of compressed, sparse and cloud files and rounds every file up to whole clusters, so it matches Explorer's "Size on disk". The status bar shows both numbers when they differ.
• Hard links counted once. An optional scan setting reads every file's link count, so data with several names (Windows keeps thousands of such files in WinSxS) is only counted once. It slows down large scans, so it's off by default.
• Free space block. When you scan a whole drive, a gray box can show the unused space, and it grows as you delete files. Off by default; turn it on in Settings.
• Protected folders. If some folders couldn't be read, a notice appears with a Restart as administrator button. SpaceSharp restarts elevated and scans the same drive again.

A calmer map

• Cushion shading. Every box has soft light-to-dark shading, which makes sizes easier to compare than flat colors. Press C to toggle it.
• Small items grouped. A folder with hundreds of small files now shows one box like "812 files, 20 GB" instead of a grid of specks. Zoom in and they appear individually. Press G to toggle it.
• Merging of single-folder chains and the zoom animation can now be turned off.

Settings window

The gear button (or Ctrl+,) opens a settings window with everything in one place: theme, palette, color mode, size measure, free space, shading, grouping, hidden and system files, hard links, and whether to confirm before moving files to the Recycle Bin. Changes apply immediately, everything is saved, and there's a reset button.
