Brand Navigation v1.0.0-rc.2
Pre-releaseBrand Navigation adds a branded navigation bar, dropdown menus and optional links in the Discourse core header. This RC2 prerelease includes the current changes on main.
What changed
- Core-header text links and icons with labels, alongside icon-only links.
- Left/right core-header placement, before Sign Up and Log In.
- Separate core-header icon colors for normal and hover/focus states, inheriting theme colors by default.
- Friendly Menu item and Submenu item labels in the administrator editor, and corrected saving of edited navigation rows.
- Compact-screen and minimized-topic header fixes, including bounded RTL coverage.
- Configuration-bundle support for the new options and safer command-line validation messages.
- Cleaner administrator color-control layout and product-first documentation. The Appearance heading, description and save/reset behavior are unchanged.
Updating and migration
Update the component through Discourse's theme administration. Back up your settings or export a configuration bundle first, and check the update on a staging theme before applying it to your main theme. Existing core-header entries retain icon-only presentation and right-side placement by default.
To replace Custom Header Links, recreate and check its destinations in Brand Navigation before disabling the old component. This release does not change a live site's settings or migrate its links automatically.
Compatibility and limits
The current commit passed both Discourse Theme CI and configuration-bundle CI. Installed and browser checks cover the documented Foundation/Horizon cases; they are not a guarantee for every third-party theme or plugin combination. See the test record for exact coverage and remaining limits.
Keep submenu text and hover-background colors contrasting: RC2 has no separate submenu hover-text color. Desktop/mobile size settings and additional core-header text/background color controls are not included.
For recovery, preserve your settings backup and use the migration and recovery guide. The full release-tag downgrade-and-return procedure is not yet fully qualified on staging.
