Brand Navigation adds a branded navigation bar, dropdown menus and optional links in the Discourse core header. RC3 adds finer control over header sizes and colors, while keeping existing configurations compatible.

What changed

  • Set independent desktop and mobile sizes for core-header icons and link text. Sizes accept whole numbers from 0–48; 0 keeps the existing theme/component default.
  • Choose separate core-header link text and hover/focus text colors, plus a hover/focus background color. Leave a color blank to inherit the existing colors.
  • Set submenu hover/focus text and icon color independently of normal text, so both remain readable against your chosen hover background.
  • Export and import the new optional settings in configuration bundles. Existing bundles remain compatible.
  • Correct JavaScript lint coverage and resolve the uncovered findings. A new regression verifies that lint actually checks every JavaScript, GJS and MJS source, script and test file.

The Appearance heading and description, save/reset behavior, and existing navigation configuration remain unchanged. Preview and screenshot updates are not part of this release.

Updating

Back up your settings or export a configuration bundle, then update the component through Discourse's theme administration. Check the update on a staging theme before applying it to your main theme. Existing installations retain their defaults until you change the new settings.

Publishing this release does not update any live Discourse installation or migrate links automatically. See the administrator guide for configuration and the migration guide for settings backup and recovery. The full release-tag downgrade-and-return procedure remains incompletely qualified on staging.

Verification and compatibility

The released tree matches the tested PR #28 candidate. All 18 executed checks passed across the current and three pinned Discourse CI lanes, including lint and frontend/backend/system tests. Conditional jobs were skipped as configured.

Focused Foundation/Horizon desktop/mobile appearance checks and independent source-correction review informed this candidate. These checks are not a guarantee for every third-party theme or plugin combination; RC3 remains a prerelease.
