Feature Switches

An admin can switch any of PariahBot's feature sets off for their server, and back on later. Settings are kept while a feature is off, so switching it back on restores what was there.

/setup feature list
/setup feature disable feature:Giveaways
/setup feature enable feature:Giveaways

The Admin-Dashboard has a Features page for the same thing, with a switch per feature.

A switched-off feature also loses its dashboard tab, so the dashboard only offers what is running. Where one tab covers several features (Stream, Instagram & RSS, and Giveaways & more) the tab stays while any one of them is on, and only the switched-off parts are left out. The Features page itself is always there — it is the only way back.

What can be switched

Feature Commands Default
Temporary voice channels /voice, /vc On
Self-service role menus /roles On
Message auto-deletion /autodelete On
Member verification (captcha) /security captcha On
Honeypot trap channel /security honeypot On
Activity levels /level On
Giveaways /giveaway On
Banned words /bannedwords Off
Moderation /mod, the right-click actions On
Streamer alerts /streamers On
RSS and Atom feeds /rss On
Instagram alerts /instagram On
Server log /logging On, with every section off until you pick a channel

Banned words is the only one that starts off, because switching it on creates real AutoMod rules in your server. Everything else is on until you say otherwise.

What cannot be switched

  • /setup — it is where the switches live. Switching it off would lock you out of switching anything back on.
  • /help and /ping — not features.
  • Admin-Alerts — other features report their failures through it.
  • The Admin-Dashboard — it already has a switch on the host, the DASHBOARD_PORT setting (see Configuration).

What happens when you switch something off

Settings are kept. Nothing is deleted. Your auto-delete rules, role menus, followed streamers, feeds and banned-word lists are all still there when you switch the feature back on.

Anything already running finishes. Switching a feature off stops new work; it does not abandon something a member is waiting on:

  • an open giveaway still ends on time and still draws a winner, and members can still enter it — it would be unfair to end a draw people had entered because of a setting changed halfway through
  • temporary voice channels that are open still delete themselves when they empty; joining a hub just stops creating new ones
  • auto-delete stops deleting immediately, and the channels stay configured
  • role menus stay posted, and tell anyone who clicks that the feature is off

Banned words is the exception that reaches your server. Its AutoMod rules are switched off in Server Settings → AutoMod rather than deleted, so any exemptions you added to them survive.

The commands stay visible

This surprises people, so it is worth stating plainly: a switched-off feature's commands are still in Discord's command picker. The bot registers its commands globally, for every server at once, so it cannot remove one for a single server.

Running one tells you the feature is off and names the command that turns it back on. /help does the same, listing a switched-off feature marked ⛔ rather than hiding it — a command that appears in the picker but is missing from /help looks like a bug.

Who can change it

Admins only: Discord's Administrator permission, or an admin role set with /setup admin-role add. See Permissions.
