Releases: CraCaNN/AR2M
Release list
Improved Menu and Variable Pressure
This release has added the ability to change how sensitive the pressure surfaces are.
Currently this doesn't work with the pressure pads and only the main ribbon which is the reason for pre-release
This release also has moved over from the Arduino IDE to PlatformIO/VS Code
In note pitch bend
This was a feature that was present back in v1.x but was essentially removed in v2.x since it caused weird sounds in synthesizers.
I've partially solved the issue but you still need a patch set up to handle in note pitch bend
By default this feature is off but can be enabled in the main menu
My hope was to get the controller to work with MPE which would allow for a proper version of this but I can't get it to work
There is also a new example patch to go with this feature called Soft Saw PB.fxp
Other changes:
- The controller will now prevent you from enabling conflicting options
- Portions of the menu interfaces have been improved
- Spelling errors fixed
Fixed pitch bend
Before this release, max pressure on pads pitch bend was not quite a full semi-tone, this has been fixed
All known issues are now resolved!
Main Menu re-write
The menu has been re-written to be easier to use and less clunky in both code and interface
Some example Surge patches have also been added to the repo
Other changes:
- Added feature where if viewing change key or octave for to long the display will automatically exit out of the key/octave offset screen
- Moved polySettings to the main menu
- change key and octave are now distinct options
- Changed MIDI device name to Quantonium
Dynamic velocity
- Added velocity data, depending on how hard the note was being pressed a higher velocity value will be sent
- This is off by default since the instrument works best with just aftertouch in my opinion, but if you want to play it more like a keyboard the option is there for you in the menu
- There are also some bug fixes of course
Minor Fixes/Improvements
There probably won't be any more significant or even minor updates for a while.
Hopefully the next big update will be MIDI 2.0/MPE
- Trautonium mode pitch bend now sends to multiple channels if that mode is selected
- Debug mode can be enabled from the menu
- Minor bug fixes
- Minor optimisations
Trautonium Mode
- Added Trautonium mode (off by default). When Enabled:
- instead of changing notes, after the first note is sent the controller will now output pitch-bend values instead.
- You will need a patch in your choice of synth to allow this to work properly
- Many other improvements and optimisations
Hotfix
Music Logic Re-write
Music Logic vastly improved
- Rewrote the logic behind how notes are detected, turned on/off
- This has fixed one of the longest known bugs in the program where the controller somehow gets stuck with a note on
- Fixed some issues with the previous release where not every feature was being restricted to one channel if you had that option enabled
- Many optimisation/bug fixes
Multi Channel Poly Play
Minor Improvements, mostly to code layout
- Added support to output different notes of poly play to different channels
- This is done by adding 2,3 or 4 to your selected MIDI channel
- This is on by default since it makes poly play so much better and DAWs have an all channel mode for a device if you are feeling lazy
- This option can be toggled in the AR2M menu
- Increased pressure ribbons buffer size to allow easier playing in the no AT sending zone
- Minor Optimisations
Known Issue
It's annoying to describe but essentially the controller turns off the wrong note at some point, and so it plays by itself, it also seems to send a note on when it shouldn't. I'm 99% sure that those two issues are related.
It doesn't happen that often and is very hard to recreate. For me at least it only seems to happens if I'm playing the instrument against my shoulder. If I'm playing the controller whilst it's sitting on a table it rarely happens.
I have known this bug to exist, probably since version beta-0.1, but it's only become more of an issue with the stacking of the position ribbon over the pressure ribbon, I have not been able to find the source of this bug.
I plan on rewriting the logic that most likely causes that bug because the that part of the code has essentially remained unchanged since beta-0.1
