Quickplay is the fastest way to jump into a match. Players are given a preset selection of plants and zombies based on the current arena.
How It Works:
- Skips the seed selection phase entirely
- Players are immediately placed into gameplay
- Seed packets are automatically assigned based on the arena's Quick Play seed types
Custom mode gives players full control over their seed packets. Both players build their own loadouts before the match begins.
How It Works:
- Players enter a seed selection phase before gameplay
- Zombie player selects their seed packets first
- Plant player selects their seed packets second
Turn Order:
- Zombie player always has first pick
- This gives the zombie player a strategic advantage in counter-picking
Random mode generates a completely random loadout for both players. Each match is unique, and players must adapt to whatever seed packets they receive.
How It Works:
- Both players receive randomly selected seed packets
- Opponent's seed packets are hidden until the match starts and the seed is used
Seed Selection Logic:
Zombie Seeds:
- Randomly selected from all available zombie types
- Must meet arena requirements and recommendations
Plant Seeds:
- Generated based on the zombie seeds selected
- Dependency system ensures counter-play options
Dependency System: The random generator ensures plants have answers to zombies:
| If Zombies or Plants Has... | Plant May Receive... |
|---|---|
| Any nocturnal plant | Coffee Bean |
| Zomboni | Spikeweed, Squash, or Jalapeno |
| Gargantuar | Cherry Bomb, Jalapeno, Squash, or Tangle Kelp |
| Pail, Screen Door, or Football Zombie | Wall-nut |
| Bungee Zombie | Umbrella Leaf |
| Catapult Zombie | Spikeweed, Squash, or Umbrella Leaf |
| Balloon Zombie | Cactus or Blover |
| Digger Zombie | Split Pea or Starfruit |
| Snorkel or Dolphin Rider | Tangle Kelp |
Hidden Seed Packets:
- Opponent's seed packets appear as hidden/question marks
- Revealed when it is used for the first time
