Highlights

• TURRIS 620 is now a full display target: device media library with the
  built-in presets, Apply with Single, Loop and Shuffle, deletion, brightness,
  backlight and mirror control, and the CPU/GPU overlay on the 1280 × 720
  layout.
• Images, videos and GIFs uploaded to the TURRIS 620 play after Apply. Media is
  encoded the way the official application does it, and uploaded files get
  names short enough for the device's player.
• TURRIS commands are negotiated per USB connection. A command the device
  rejects or leaves unanswered only switches off that feature; uploads keep
  working. Apply and delete no longer pause for three seconds.
• In the Flatpak, a file dragged from the host file manager is resolved through
  the desktop portal, so drag and drop works without home directory access.
• A reinstalled package always shows its own interface: the GUI no longer
  reuses the on-disk QML cache.

Thanks

• @mrjerox tested every TURRIS 620 build on real hardware and sent the logs
  that made the playback fix possible (#25).
• @droupal tested the Flatpak on Bazzite and pinned down the USB portal and
  drag and drop behaviour (#19).

Downloads

This release includes native RPM, DEB and Arch packages, a source archive, and
tryx-panorama-manager-2.5.1-experimental-x86_64.flatpak. All five payload files
are covered by SHA256SUMS and GitHub build-provenance attestations.

The DEB targets Ubuntu 24.04 and Linux Mint 22. The Arch package targets current
Arch Linux. Use the RPM matching the Fedora release shown in its filename;
packages are not interchangeable between distributions.

Experimental Flatpak

The Flatpak requires Flatpak 1.15.11 or newer, the Flathub runtime remote, and a
working USB portal backend. Keep the runtime's related codec extensions enabled.
KDE Platform provides the bundled Qt libraries; it does not require the KDE
Plasma desktop.

After verifying the downloaded file against SHA256SUMS:

The USB portal asks for device access every time the background runtime starts;
the portal has no persistent grant. Closing the window keeps the runtime and its
grant alive.

When updating an existing Flatpak, keep its current --user or --system
installation scope. After all uploads and Apply operations have finished, stop
the running instance with flatpak kill io.github.dxvsi.tryx_panorama_manager
and launch the updated application again. Settings and media do not need to be
removed.

Known limitations

• TURRIS 620 support is community-tested and has not been reproduced on
  maintainer-owned hardware. Split screen, waterfall orientation, custom badge
  text, Save as new, Replace, saved layouts and firmware operations are not
  available for it.
• TURRIS media uploaded with earlier test builds may stay black after Apply.
  Delete those files and upload them again with 2.5.1.
• The Flatpak remains experimental and is not published on Flathub. Legacy
  serial/ADB, firmware flashing and desktop autostart remain unavailable in it.
• Drag and drop in the Flatpak needs a source that offers a portal file
  transfer, such as Dolphin or a GTK file manager. The file chooser button works
  with any source.

Updates remain manual; the application does not download or install itself.

Highlights

• Experimental x86_64 Flatpak for testing directly on immutable desktops,
  including Bazzite and SteamOS Desktop Mode, without a Distrobox installation.
• Desktop USB and file chooser portals, app-private runtime paths, and explicit
  exclusion between native and Flatpak runtimes.
• Automatic media-library loading once the device session is ready, including
  after a permission grant or reconnect.
• Private permissions for converted media and a final retry-artifact path check
  that rejects file replacement, symbolic links, and missing paths.
• Qt 6.4-compatible deferred file dialogs and complete Russian translations for
  the new Flatpak workflows.
• Fedora RPM builds now target the current stable Fedora release only.

Downloads

This release includes native RPM, DEB and Arch packages, a source archive, and
tryx-panorama-manager-2.4.0-experimental-x86_64.flatpak. All five payload files
are covered by SHA256SUMS and GitHub build-provenance attestations.

Finish active operations and stop any other TRYX runtime before starting the
Flatpak. Native profiles are not automatically migrated into its app-private
storage. Switching packages must not be used to bypass a recovery or retry guard.

When updating an existing Flatpak, keep its current --user or --system
installation scope. Closing the GUI does not stop its background runtime.
After all uploads and Apply operations have finished, stop the running instance
with flatpak kill io.github.dxvsi.tryx_panorama_manager and launch the updated
application again. Settings and media do not need to be removed.

Known limitations

• The Flatpak remains experimental and is not published on Flathub. Build/test
  success does not establish Bazzite, SteamOS or GNOME hardware qualification.
• Printer-class IDs 391a:1011, 391a:1021 and 391a:2011 only in the Flatpak.
  Legacy serial/ADB, firmware flashing and desktop autostart remain unavailable
  in this package. Host-tool-dependent telemetry may be unavailable as well.
• USB portal permission does not bypass the host's existing USB access controls.
• Model capabilities are unchanged. TURRIS remains an acknowledged media-upload
  path; playback-loop control is not implemented or fixed by this release.
• No additional model, NVIDIA, physical firmware-flashing or 24-hour hardware
  qualification is claimed. Preserve profile backups and the existing downgrade
  restrictions when changing installed native versions.

Updates remain manual; the application does not download or install itself.

  (391a:1021) displays, including separate left/right choices in Split.
• Saved layouts, explicit Load and Apply, independent left/right overlay
  styling, and grouped metric search with up to three metrics per area.
• Full-screen and Split-area media preparation, richer device-copy metadata,
  and stricter Replace checks that preserve the other display area.
• Confirmed device specifications, Celsius/Fahrenheit and 12/24-hour settings,
  optional NVIDIA telemetry, GUI autostart, and configurable close behavior.
• Local redacted support reports, safe unused temporary-file cleanup, and the
  one-shot local tryx command-line client.
• Quiet startup/hourly GitHub release notifications. Updates remain manual:
  there is no automatic download, installation, restart, or firmware update.

Reliability

• Preserve existing D-Bus API 8 contracts and exact model capability gates
  while separating runtime, session, worker, operation, and protocol ownership.
• Recover when the runtime connection revision advances between cached reads,
  instead of leaving GUI controls disabled. Late replies from older owners or
  handshakes are discarded; recovery does not replay device mutations.
• Preserve Custom choices, saved layouts, and manual Retry context through
  versioned snapshots and configuration backups.
• Keep cleanup candidates pinned until completion to reject file replacement
  even when a filesystem reuses inode numbers; release pins on cancellation
  and failure. Support-report UTC timestamps remain compatible with Qt 6.4.
• Keep finalized recovered-media files pinned until their records are removed,
  including failed cleanup, so identical-byte replacements cannot be claimed.
• Preserve the previous file when flushing an atomic write fails on Qt 6.4,
  covering configuration, recovery journals, catalogs, and media copies.
• Keep support-report file identity pinned through publication and rollback,
  so a replaced file cannot be removed after inode reuse.
• Keep deferred UI actions compatible with Qt 6.4 and wrap long layout hints
  without pushing controls outside their panels.
• Validate compiled translations against current source strings on supported
  Qt toolchains, including the older Linguist tools shipped with Ubuntu 24.04.
• Preserve the socket of another running TRYX instance during crash recovery
  even when the filesystem immediately reuses the removed socket's inode.

Upgrade and known limitations

Back up the user profile before upgrading. Overlay v3, Saved v2, and Retry v12
are not a general round-trip to older packages. Returning badges to Automatic
does not downgrade on-disk formats. Do not install an older runtime over newer
state or delete state to bypass a guard. Private configuration backups are not
complete media backups; rollback needs a verified offline recovery plan.

Custom text is available only on 1021; device fonts may not render every
accepted Unicode glyph. Replace is blocked while Custom is active: use Save as
new, select the new copy, and Apply. The model support matrix is unchanged.
Panorama 1011, Turris 2011, and NVIDIA have not gained new maintainer hardware
qualification in this release. Turris remains acknowledged user-media upload
only. Physical firmware flashing and extended 24-hour qualification are not
claimed by this release preparation.

The desktop GUI checks GitHub automatically at startup and hourly, without an
opt-in switch. Requests contain no device identifiers, logs, or media metadata;
GitHub receives normal connection information, including the public IP address.

Native package targets: Fedora 43/44 RPM, Ubuntu 24.04 / Linux Mint 22 DEB,
and current Arch Linux. Verify downloaded assets against SHA256SUMS.

This feature release adds exact, model-aware printer-class support for additional TRYX displays and tightens product identity checks across media operations, recovery, and firmware updates.

New device profiles

• Added the community-tested Panorama USB profile 391a:1011 with 2240 x 1080 media preparation, display controls, and overlay support. Firmware flashing remains disabled for this profile.
• Added the community-tested Turris 620 USB profile 391a:2011 with 1280 x 720 image, GIF, and video preparation, MXHD packaging, and acknowledged upload with immediate activation.
• The editor and preview now use the connected model's native geometry and aspect ratio instead of assuming one display size.
• Udev rules now grant access to all supported printer-class identities: 391a:1011, 391a:1021, and 391a:2011.

Safety and reliability

• Device capabilities are checked before any USB mutation. Unsupported catalog, display, metrics, keepalive, firmware, or media operations fail closed for the active product profile.
• Sessions, prepared media, retries, and recovery records are bound to the exact USB product, preventing work prepared for one model from being reused on another.
• Firmware authorization now accepts only an identified firmware-capable PASE or legacy cm01_se target. Panorama 391a:1011, Turris 391a:2011, unidentified devices, and failed legacy reconnects remain blocked.
• A failed legacy reconnect clears the previous device identity instead of retaining stale firmware authorization.
• Turris uploads reject malformed MXHD data before USB transfer. A missing final acknowledgement is not retried automatically and requires explicit recovery.
• The public Manager1 and Manager2 D-Bus contracts remain compatible at runtime API version 8.

Turris scope

Turris support is intentionally transfer-only: upload with immediate activation is enabled. Device catalog, export, Save as new, Replace, delete, Apply, display configuration, brightness, metrics, presets, keepalive, and firmware operations remain unavailable.

Panorama 391a:1011 and Turris 391a:2011 are community-tested profiles and have not been reproduced on maintainer-owned hardware.

Packaging and validation

• Native packages are attached for Fedora 43, Fedora 44, Ubuntu 24.04 and Linux Mint 22, and current Arch Linux. A source archive and SHA256SUMS are included.
• Fedora media preparation now explicitly requires RPM Fusion's full ffmpeg package with the libx264 encoder; ffmpeg-free is not sufficient.
• All release assets were rebuilt in clean CI, checksum-verified, and matched to GitHub provenance attestations for the tagged production commit.
• Release gates passed 256 printer protocol/runtime tests, 41 Qt Quick C++ tests, 31 QML tests, 22 runtime bootstrap tests, 11 tray tests, and 10 replace-journal tests.
• The Fedora 44 RPM was installed and validated against a physical PASE 391a:1021: desktop entry and Qt Quick GUI, runtime API 8, verified media upload and cleanup, Full Screen Apply, active metrics, restart persistence, stable D-Bus ownership, no active operation, and NRestarts=0.

The physical Fedora smoke did not include a cable replug. Ubuntu/Mint and Arch received clean package and runtime CI validation, but not a physical USB hardware smoke in this release run.

After upgrading an existing installation, reload and restart the user service:

This maintenance release fixes direct launches of a freshly built Qt Quick GUI when an older installed TRYX runtime still owns the user D-Bus service.

Fixes

• A GUI launched from build/quick now selects the sibling API 8 runtime from the same build instead of starting an older installed runtime.
• Runtime bootstrap checks the systemd unit state, PID, and queued job before starting a development runtime.
• D-Bus readiness and owner replacement are handled fail-closed.
• An incompatible installed runtime is never stopped automatically after a non-atomic probe. The error now provides an explicit safe restart command.
• Isolated regression tests cover API 6/API 8 selection, delayed D-Bus readiness, systemd startup races, owner replacement, and exact-PID cleanup.

Packages

Native packages are attached for Fedora 43, Fedora 44, Ubuntu 24.04 and Linux Mint 22, and Arch Linux. A source archive and SHA256SUMS are included.

After upgrading an existing installation, reload and restart the user service:

All release assets were rebuilt and tested in clean CI for every supported distribution target, and their checksums and GitHub provenance attestations were verified. The Fedora 44 RPM was installed and validated against a physical printer-class PASE device: package and runtime version 2.1.1, API 8, active display session and overlay, active metrics, stable D-Bus ownership, no active operation, and NRestarts=0. No media mutation or firmware flashing was performed during this maintenance-release validation.

This release replaces the legacy Qt Widgets frontend with one Qt Quick desktop application and a separate headless runtime. Closing, restarting, or explicitly quitting the GUI no longer transfers display ownership away from the runtime.

• Native Linux StatusNotifierItem and DBusMenu tray integration, plus freedesktop desktop notifications. The explicit Quit action now exits the GUI reliably while the runtime and display continue working.
