BetterBars 3.2

Choose a tag to compare

@DelmonDev DelmonDev released this 15 Aug 16:35

What's new in 3.2

  • Crash-proof settings — your configuration now lives in its own file pair (BetterBars_settings.lua plus a backup mirror) instead of the shared store that every addon writes. A client crash could truncate that shared file mid-write, and the game then silently reset every addon to defaults on the next launch. BetterBars now survives that: it restores from its own files, heals a corrupted copy from the mirror, and migrates your existing settings automatically on first launch. Your layout also survives addon updates and reinstalls.
  • Abyssal fixes — the custom charge pips no longer vanish after mounting, no longer fail to appear on a fresh login when the charge bar is created late, and settings changes made after a /reload stick instead of fighting a stale copy of the addon.

BetterBars 3.1

@DelmonDev DelmonDev released this 11 Aug 11:26

The bars sit where the client puts them, everything is measured against the
real UI scale, and the abyssal charge bar gets an optional restyle of its own.

Bars

  • Vanilla anchoring. The frames sit exactly where the client puts them, so
the name, level, buffs and surrounding furniture line up the way vanilla
intends. 3.0's styling is untouched — it is the re-anchoring machinery behind
    it that is gone.
  • Correct UI scaling. Borders, gaps and offsets are computed against the
real UI scale rather than assuming 100% (the option slider's "80" applies
    0.85, "90" applies 0.93), so a 1px border stays 1px at any scale.

Abyssal charge bar (opt-in)

The client's own charge display, restyled in place: lightning-medallion pips,
lit and unlit, with a size slider from 8 to 69 and spacing that follows the pip
size. Charges read as whole numbers, exactly as vanilla shows them.

Off by default. It is the one part of this addon that is not a unit frame,
so you switch it on yourself under BARS → Abyssal — and switching it back off
hands the client's own bubble art straight back, immediately, without waiting
for your next charge.

Colours

  • "Not my target" enemies use the deeper preemptive-strike red the newer client
    uses.
  • Bloodlust no longer turns your own bar red.
  • Pet frame heights corrected.

Info tags

Class, gear score and guild labels are target-frame only, and click-through —
they no longer eat clicks meant for the frame underneath.

Settings

  • The colour wheel hit-tests correctly at every UI scale, and its hairline
    borders stay one pixel everywhere.
  • The HP / MP / Enemy swatches sit evenly across the panel.
  • Registers with ESCMenu when it is
installed, so BetterBars gets a row in the ESC menu. The Addon Options panel
is still there for everyone else.

BetterBars 3.0

@DelmonDev DelmonDev released this 05 Aug 20:48

Unit frames rebuilt against the newer client's own texture atlas, a settings
window rewritten from scratch, and a long list of fixes.

Upgrading from 2.0 performs a one-time reset to the new defaults on your
first 3.0 launch. After that your settings are yours — everything saves
live, there is no Save button.

Bars

  • Backdrop rebuilt from the newer client's exact 17×17 cell — border, inner
shadow, feathered corners — drawn per bar as a ninepart, so it is correct
    at any bar height.
  • Retail fill sprites for HP and MP, tinted by your colour.
  • Damage trails are derived from the bar colour instead of a flat grey, the
way the newer client does it.
  • Player and pet bars keep their custom colours in every case, including
with the fill texture off and after a /reload with a pet out.
  • Pet frame HP/MP labels are formatted and centred like the main frames.
  • Party frames: the HP damage trail follows your colour. It is the only
party element the addon api exposes; full party styling needs api support.

Housing

Ally houses are green and enemy houses red — the addon api filters housing
out of the calls the old logic depended on, so every house used to come up
enemy-red. LABELS → House HP shows the game's own HP text on them.

Settings

  • Flat sliders and checks throughout, everything applies and saves live.
  • HSV colour wheel with brightness, RGB entry, presets and a per-colour
    default. Colour wheel
  • Level font picker listing every client font, each row drawn in the font it
    offers. Font picker
  • Live preview mirroring colours, bar heights, texture, label format, font
    size and level font. Preview
  • Info labels (class, gear score, guild) are opt-in, each with its own X/Y
position and font size, plus shadow toggles for them and for the bar
    numbers.
  • Reset asks twice: the first click arms it red for five seconds.

Fixes

  • Settings no longer reset on every login — the addon read the settings
store before the engine had loaded it.
  • The welcome card no longer returns after a Reset or a reload.
  • The fill texture no longer reappears after being switched off.
  • Class and gear-score labels hide unreadable values instead of printing
    junk like character or 0.
  • The target-of-target frame carries no info labels, and neither does your
    own frame.

Install

Extract into Documents/AAClassic/Addon/ so the addon sits at
Addon/BetterBars/, then enable it in the in-game addon list and type bb
in chat to open the settings.
