MobiVerse 2.3.0 — Browse, Smart Import & Paginated Reader
MobiVerse 2.3.0 (11) — macOS
MobiVerse 2.3.0 turns the macOS app into a complete local reading workspace: browse legal ebook sources, validate downloads, review locally detected book types, convert through the correct text or comic pipeline, and read in a refined paginated preview. No ebook website is bundled, promoted, or endorsed.
Browse and downloads
- New Shelf / Browse workspace with an isolated persistent
WKWebView, tabs, back/forward/reload/home controls, address/search input, and persistent website sessions. - Chrome-style bookmark star: click to add the current site and show its chip below the address bar; click again to remove both. Bookmarks are user-managed and the start page contains no fixed ebook sites.
- Download tray with progress, pause, cancel, retry, source domain, duplicate-name handling, configurable download location, and Finder reveal.
- Downloads are staged and validated using file signatures, MIME type, extension, and real content. HTML error pages, executables, and disguised or unsupported files are rejected before import.
- Redesigned browser settings in MobiVerse's warm editorial palette, including download location, bookmark management, and one-click clearing of cookies, cache, and browser history. Books, bookmarks, and conversion history are not deleted.
- The online browser and offline EPUB preview use separate WebView configurations. Preview remains non-persistent, blocks scripts and remote resources, confines local paths, and cannot share browser cookies.
Intelligent local import
- Browser downloads, file selection, and drag-and-drop now share one analyze → review → convert flow.
- Local-only classification identifies text books, comics/image books, or uncertain files and shows confidence plus concise evidence. Nothing is uploaded to an AI or remote classification service.
- Batch review supports user overrides and left-to-right or right-to-left comic direction. Low-confidence items require a choice.
- EPUB files are safely parsed, classified, given a cover, and added directly to the shelf without unnecessary repackaging.
- Downloaded but unconfirmed items are persisted for later review; older conversion history remains backward-compatible without reprocessing.
Conversion and Japanese EPUB 3 repair
- Explicit text-reflow and comic-fixed-layout conversion profiles now route each book correctly.
- Text books avoid comic CSS, fixed-layout metadata, RTL metadata, and comic post-processing. Text PDFs use Calibre reflow.
- Comics retain image normalization, fixed-layout EPUB metadata, reading direction, Apple Books compatibility behavior, and the native PDFKit fixed-layout path.
- AZW/MOBI text conversions now target EPUB 3.
- Japanese ruby annotations (
ruby/rt) are preserved. Before EPUBCheck, MobiVerse automatically repairs invalid XML IDs, broken stylesheet/resource references, and NCX play order instead of deleting annotations. - EPUBCheck zero-warning summaries are recognized correctly.
Reader and appearance
- Reflowable EPUB preview is now a viewport-fitted paginated reader with horizontal page turns, refined typography, reading themes, and reader controls instead of vertical chapter scrolling.
- Comic/image EPUB pages fit the reader and turn horizontally.
- Reopening a preview restores the exact section and page for text books and the exact page for comics, with legacy position data supported.
- Shelf, Browse, settings, import review, and preview chrome now adapt consistently to macOS light and dark appearances.
- New persistent appearance control: Follow System, Light, or Dark.
- Dark-mode still-life artwork now uses a high-resolution antialiased asset and matches the light illustration's visual size.
Packaging and compatibility
- The macOS DMG always includes Calibre, EPUBCheck, and the Java runtime required by EPUBCheck. No separate conversion or validation install is needed.
- Existing output collision protection, conversion progress, retry, cover cache, reports, Finder reveal, deletion, and history behavior are preserved.
- macOS only in this release; the Windows release remains 2.2.0.
- Apple Silicon (
arm64), macOS 14 or later.
Verification
- 43 automated tests across 13 suites passed.
- DMG mounted and verified successfully; embedded app signature and bundled Calibre, EPUBCheck, and Java were checked.

Installation note
This build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized. macOS may show an “Apple could not verify MobiVerse” warning for an internet download. A Developer ID-signed and notarized release requires the project owner's Apple Developer signing credentials.
