@DemonDevil-Git DemonDevil-Git released this 24 Aug 10:38

MobiVerse 2.5.0 (15)

MobiVerse 2.5.0 makes reading more immersive, makes browser downloads easier to manage, and strengthens first-launch verification for newly installed copies.

Highlights

  • Rebuilt the EPUB reader around distraction-free reading with auto-hiding controls and cursor, full-screen support, and quick keyboard navigation.
  • Added single-page, two-page spread, and continuous-scroll comic modes with direction-aware page ordering for left-to-right and right-to-left books.
  • Added adaptive comic canvas colors, image caching, adjacent-page preloading, and smoother page transitions.
  • Improved the text reader with reading-direction-aware navigation while preserving theme, typography, and reading-position controls.
  • Reworked Browse downloads into a smoothly scrolling vertical list with clearer progress and status information.
  • Added per-download record removal with confirmation. Removing a completed record never deletes the downloaded book file; removing an active record cancels the transfer and removes its partial file.

First-launch reliability

  • The packaged app still launches against a fresh preferences directory and must remain alive through the stability window.
  • The final DMG now passes integrity verification, copies MobiVerse into a clean Applications-like directory, verifies the copied app's deep strict signature, detaches the installer image, and cold-launches the installed copy with fresh preferences.
  • This preserves the packaged-resource fix introduced in 2.4.1 and catches regressions that only appear after copying the app out of its DMG.

Verification

  • 51 macOS automated tests passed across 14 suites.
  • 55 Windows core tests passed.
  • Shell packaging scripts and website JavaScript passed syntax checks.
  • The packaged app and the cleanly installed DMG copy passed fresh-user launch stability checks.
  • App version: 2.5.0 (15).
  • Architecture: Apple Silicon (arm64).
  • Minimum system: macOS 14.
  • DMG SHA-256: adb568eab5a90aeedf5fb04419696df25feafbf3cb774d9ecf2169292caeb19e.

Installation

  1. Download MobiVerse-2.5.0.dmg from this release.
  2. Open the DMG and drag MobiVerse.app to Applications.
  3. Replace the previous version when Finder asks.

Distribution note

This build is ad-hoc signed because no Apple Developer ID identity is available in the release environment. It is not Apple-notarized, so macOS may require the user to approve opening it. That Gatekeeper prompt is separate from an application first-launch crash. A future public build requires a Developer ID Application certificate and notarization to eliminate the warning.

MobiVerse 2.4.1 (14)

MobiVerse 2.4.1 is a macOS reliability patch focused on safe first launch for newly installed users and precise workspace toolbar alignment.

Fixes

  • Fixed a first-launch crash caused by resolving localized resources through a development-only SwiftPM bundle accessor after installation.
  • Kept the Browse new-tab button in the trailing action area immediately left of Downloads.
  • Centered the Shelf/Browse workspace control for short Simplified Chinese labels.
  • Strengthened release smoke testing so the packaged app must launch with a fresh preferences directory and remain alive through a stability window.
  • Added a second launch check from the final mounted DMG and reliable cleanup of the test mount.

Verification

  • 51 automated tests passed across 14 suites.
  • Shell packaging scripts and website JavaScript passed syntax checks.
  • The packaged app and the app inside the mounted DMG each launched with a fresh preferences directory and remained running for the full five-second stability window.
  • The DMG passed hdiutil verify.
  • The app passed deep strict code-signature verification.
  • App version: 2.4.1 (14).
  • Architecture: Apple Silicon (arm64).
  • Minimum system: macOS 14.
  • DMG SHA-256: 7e34563f413cd6a6e3cb2ced9c950bead34e2e48c772bf9cdfc57c632ca1c517.

This Gatekeeper prompt is separate from the application first-launch crash fixed in this release.

MobiVerse 2.4.0 (13)

  • Added an interactive 3D shelf with direct visible-book selection and smooth spring transitions.
  • Stabilized 3D shelf hit testing by locking the mouse-down target and keeping hover effects from changing book geometry.

MobiVerse 2.3.1 (12)

MobiVerse 2.3.1 is a macOS reliability release for browser downloads and comic conversion.

Fixes

  • Prevented a SwiftUI import-review binding race from crashing the app while the review sheet closes.
  • Corrected fixed-layout comic OPF output so EPUBCheck receives exactly one dcterms:modified value, SVG declarations on XHTML manifest items, and no invalid SVG property on spine item references.
  • Made main-frame PDF responses in Browse download automatically, including temporary signed URLs without a .pdf suffix.
  • Kept embedded PDF frames viewable and added a persistent setting for automatic PDF download versus browser preview.

Verification

  • 49 automated tests passed across 14 suites.
  • The release app bundles Calibre, EPUBCheck, and Java.
  • DMG SHA-256: 28d4a01cdbc775da8cc2ff7764f01f448404a2771fbdbb0b5a7df1040c69b45b.
  • Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 14 or later.

Distribution note

This build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized. macOS may require the user to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet.

MobiVerse 2.3.0 — Browse, Smart Import & Paginated Reader

Choose a tag to compare

@DemonDevil-Git DemonDevil-Git released this 19 Jul 10:45

MobiVerse 2.3.0 (11) — macOS

MobiVerse 2.3.0 turns the macOS app into a complete local reading workspace: browse legal ebook sources, validate downloads, review locally detected book types, convert through the correct text or comic pipeline, and read in a refined paginated preview. No ebook website is bundled, promoted, or endorsed.

Browse and downloads

  • New Shelf / Browse workspace with an isolated persistent WKWebView, tabs, back/forward/reload/home controls, address/search input, and persistent website sessions.
  • Chrome-style bookmark star: click to add the current site and show its chip below the address bar; click again to remove both. Bookmarks are user-managed and the start page contains no fixed ebook sites.
  • Download tray with progress, pause, cancel, retry, source domain, duplicate-name handling, configurable download location, and Finder reveal.
  • Downloads are staged and validated using file signatures, MIME type, extension, and real content. HTML error pages, executables, and disguised or unsupported files are rejected before import.
  • Redesigned browser settings in MobiVerse's warm editorial palette, including download location, bookmark management, and one-click clearing of cookies, cache, and browser history. Books, bookmarks, and conversion history are not deleted.
  • The online browser and offline EPUB preview use separate WebView configurations. Preview remains non-persistent, blocks scripts and remote resources, confines local paths, and cannot share browser cookies.

Intelligent local import

  • Browser downloads, file selection, and drag-and-drop now share one analyze → review → convert flow.
  • Local-only classification identifies text books, comics/image books, or uncertain files and shows confidence plus concise evidence. Nothing is uploaded to an AI or remote classification service.
  • Batch review supports user overrides and left-to-right or right-to-left comic direction. Low-confidence items require a choice.
  • EPUB files are safely parsed, classified, given a cover, and added directly to the shelf without unnecessary repackaging.
  • Downloaded but unconfirmed items are persisted for later review; older conversion history remains backward-compatible without reprocessing.

Conversion and Japanese EPUB 3 repair

  • Explicit text-reflow and comic-fixed-layout conversion profiles now route each book correctly.
  • Text books avoid comic CSS, fixed-layout metadata, RTL metadata, and comic post-processing. Text PDFs use Calibre reflow.
  • Comics retain image normalization, fixed-layout EPUB metadata, reading direction, Apple Books compatibility behavior, and the native PDFKit fixed-layout path.
  • AZW/MOBI text conversions now target EPUB 3.
  • Japanese ruby annotations (ruby / rt) are preserved. Before EPUBCheck, MobiVerse automatically repairs invalid XML IDs, broken stylesheet/resource references, and NCX play order instead of deleting annotations.
  • EPUBCheck zero-warning summaries are recognized correctly.

Reader and appearance

  • Reflowable EPUB preview is now a viewport-fitted paginated reader with horizontal page turns, refined typography, reading themes, and reader controls instead of vertical chapter scrolling.
  • Comic/image EPUB pages fit the reader and turn horizontally.
  • Reopening a preview restores the exact section and page for text books and the exact page for comics, with legacy position data supported.
  • Shelf, Browse, settings, import review, and preview chrome now adapt consistently to macOS light and dark appearances.
  • New persistent appearance control: Follow System, Light, or Dark.
  • Dark-mode still-life artwork now uses a high-resolution antialiased asset and matches the light illustration's visual size.

Packaging and compatibility

  • The macOS DMG always includes Calibre, EPUBCheck, and the Java runtime required by EPUBCheck. No separate conversion or validation install is needed.
  • Existing output collision protection, conversion progress, retry, cover cache, reports, Finder reveal, deletion, and history behavior are preserved.
  • macOS only in this release; the Windows release remains 2.2.0.
  • Apple Silicon (arm64), macOS 14 or later.

Verification

  • 43 automated tests across 13 suites passed.
  • DMG mounted and verified successfully; embedded app signature and bundled Calibre, EPUBCheck, and Java were checked.
  • SHA-256: 3ac2d07a52749cabcda3f2c69848d2f726662abe5e021a1207c4b0a308c2c34f

Installation note

This build is ad-hoc signed and is not Apple-notarized. macOS may show an “Apple could not verify MobiVerse” warning for an internet download. A Developer ID-signed and notarized release requires the project owner's Apple Developer signing credentials.

MobiVerse 2.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@DemonDevil-Git DemonDevil-Git released this 30 Jun 02:42

MobiVerse v2.1.0

MobiVerse 2.1 introduces a native high-speed conversion path for PDF comics and image-heavy PDF books.

PDF Performance

  • PDF input now bypasses Calibre's general-purpose document reflow.
  • PDFKit renders pages directly into an Apple Books-friendly fixed-layout EPUB.
  • The EPUB is built once instead of being generated by Calibre and rebuilt a second time.
  • JPEG pages are written at a 2200-pixel maximum edge with quality tuned for illustrated reading.
  • Pages are processed sequentially and released promptly to reduce peak memory use.
  • Already-compressed images use ZIP store mode instead of wasting CPU on repeated compression.
  • Conversion progress displays the current and total PDF page count.

In real-world testing, a roughly 400MB PDF comic completed in under 10 seconds. Actual performance depends on page count, image encoding, storage speed, and Mac hardware.

Conversion and Reading

  • Opens EPUB files directly in the built-in preview.
  • Converts DRM-free MOBI, AZW, AZW3, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, and PDF files into EPUB.
  • Rebuilds image-heavy books as stable fixed-layout EPUB3 output for Apple Books.
  • Bundles Calibre for formats that still require it; PDF fast conversion does not depend on Calibre.
  • Keeps conversion local on your Mac.

PDF Output Notes

PDF pages are preserved visually as fixed-layout images. Selectable PDF text, links, annotations, and forms are not retained in the EPUB output.

Install

  1. Download MobiVerse-2.1.0.dmg from this release.
  2. Open the DMG.
  3. Drag MobiVerse.app into Applications and replace the previous version.
  4. Launch MobiVerse and open or drop a supported book.

Known Limitations

  • MobiVerse does not remove DRM.
  • This DMG is not Apple Developer ID notarized. macOS Gatekeeper may require users to approve opening it manually.
  • EPUBCheck validation is skipped unless an EPUBCheck runtime is available.

Verification

  • App version: 2.1.0 (5)
  • Architecture: Apple Silicon (arm64)
  • 25 automated tests pass, including native PDF conversion, EPUB parsing, image dimensions, and progress reporting.
  • A 100-page synthetic PDF conversion and preview parse completed in approximately 1.37 seconds on the development Mac.
