Download Dovecot-Mailbox-Viewer-Windows.exe below and double-click it. No installer, ZIP extraction, Python installation or separate _internal folder is needed. For Windows 10/11 (64-bit). Startup can take a few seconds while bundled files unpack automatically. Your original backup stays unchanged.
Linux: download Dovecot-Mailbox-Viewer-Linux-x86_64.AppImage, mark it executable and launch it. Targets x86-64 desktops with glibc 2.35+ and X11/XWayland. If mounting is restricted, launch with --appimage-extract-and-run. No Python installation is required.
Fixed
- Avoid reformatting every HTML text fragment at default zoom; batch other zoom
changes into a single document edit. Release old preview documents when switching mail. - Coalesce live import updates so slow rendering cannot queue stale list refreshes.
During indexing, select an email to open it; new arrivals do not open themselves. - Keep conversation sorting away from raw message blobs, add date-sort indexes,
and use a read-only GUI database connection while importing. - Use a clearly labelled, bounded text preview for unusually large or complex HTML.
Original emails and exports remain intact.
Added
- Measured progress for compressed archive passes, including bytes read, elapsed
time, speed and estimated time remaining for the current stage. Folder scans
show counts until their total is known. Progress details explain each stage. - A visible notice when no measurable work has advanced, plus periodic activity logs.
- Native crash logging and automatic thread traces after a 30-second GUI heartbeat
gap. Help → Save diagnostic report bundles logs and system versions, never mail caches. - Regression tests for skipped archive bytes, cancellation, live catalogue reads,
long imports, HTML preview limits and diagnostic-bundle contents.
Known limitations
- The reported large-backup freeze has not yet been reproduced with the original
mailbox. If it persists, the diagnostic report can identify the blocking operation. - Progress percentages describe individual stages, not the entire import. A stage
can finish reading bytes before its processing/commit is complete. - Native file dialogues can also pause the GUI heartbeat. Logs can contain local
paths and should be reviewed before sharing.
SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for all release assets. Only the EXE or AppImage for your operating system is needed to run the app.
Third-party software: Qt and PySide/Shiboken are used under LGPLv3. Third-party-notices.zip (Windows) and Third-party-notices-Linux.zip contain licence texts, exact dependency versions and rebuild instructions; these notices are also available inside the app under Help → Licences and third-party software. The matching, unmodified Qt and PySide/Shiboken source archives are the separate *-src-*.tar.xz downloads below. Bundled-files.txt lists native files. Linux has its own native-file inventory and additional runtime source archives. You may modify/rebuild these libraries and run the app with your replacements. GitHub's Source code downloads contain the MIT-licensed application source.
