Changes between 1.3.1 and 2.0.0

  • BREAKING-CHANGE: Redesign argument parsing:
    • The current implementation parses long options, an approach that works fine, provided the project doesn't keep adding more and more options (which, as this release has shown, is not the case).

This change modifies how options are parsed, while opting to ignore any unknown options. Although this is a breaking change (meaning existing AppJails will not work with the current version of x11appjail) the upside is that future options and releases will be able to handle this gracefully, without repeatedly breaking the ABI.

  • Improved: formatting in APPSCRIPT.
  • Added: -L parameter to the build command.
  • Added: clean phase to x11appjail-spec(5):
    • Sometimes, it's necessary to perform certain actions before destroying the jail. For example, in AppJails, if a service like xdg-dbus-proxy(1) is started, it must be stopped before destroying the jail to avoid resource leaks. This phase addresses issues like this.
  • Simplified: logic in destroy-jail.
  • Renamed: /var/run/x11appjail-cache to /var/run/x11appjail.
    • This directory could be used for runtime operations, so a more generic name is required for consistency.
  • Implemented: D-Bus support:
    • Actually, "D-Bus support" here just means that x11appjail(1) will simply pass the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS and DBUS_SYSTEM_BUS_ADDRESS environment variables to AppJails. The intent of passing these environment variables is for AppJails to use them with xdg-dbus-proxy.
