SpaceKnife 0.3.2 (pre-release)

A disk usage analyzer that shows what fills your drives, on Windows, Linux and macOS. SpaceKnife is an independent project inspired by SpaceSniffer and is not affiliated with SpaceSniffer or its author.

This is a pre-release. The Windows and Linux builds are not code-signed, and the macOS build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple.

  • Upgrading from 0.3.1: SpaceKnife shows a badge at the top right. Click it for a summary and a one-click download of the right file for your installation, checked against the published SHA-256. Snapshots and settings stay.
  • Windows: run the new installer over the old version. It closes SpaceKnife and replaces it. The installer is unsigned, so SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher on first run: "More info › Run anyway".
  • macOS: drag SpaceKnife into Applications. The first time, macOS blocks it: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and click "Open Anyway" (steps).
  • Portable: unzip anywhere and run it; everything is kept in the data folder next to the app. To upgrade, replace the program files and keep data.
  • Linux: deb and rpm install to /opt/SpaceKnife, the command is spaceknife. The AppImage needs FUSE 2 (libfuse2 on Ubuntu), or run it with --appimage-extract-and-run. From this version on, AppImageUpdate can update it in place.
  • Checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt (installers), SHA256SUMS-portable-*.txt, SHA256SUMS-mac-*.txt.

What's new

  • Help inside the app: the documentation now ships with SpaceKnife and works offline.
    • F1 opens the page about where you are: the start page opens "Your first scan", the filter box opens "Filters", and the command palette opens its own page.
    • You can also open it with the Help button in the title bar or the Help command in the palette.
    • The help has its own search (/). View on the website opens the same page in your browser.
  • F5, Shift+F5 and Ctrl+S now work for Rescan current view, Rescan everything and Save snapshot. They also work while you type in the filter box.
    • Where the palette would show the command grayed out, the key does nothing and a note at the bottom of the window says why.
    • Held down, a key runs once.
  • AppImage updates: the AppImage carries update information, and each release has a .zsync file next to it, so AppImageUpdate and AppImageLauncher can update it in place.

Fixes

  • Rescan current view in a comparison: it used to read an unrelated folder of the scan. It is now unavailable there and says why.
  • Rescan current view at the top of a scan of several locations: it used to do nothing. It now reads every location again.
  • Corrected setting descriptions: theme, animation frame rate, low I/O priority when idle, and live monitoring on Linux.
  • Default for incremental rescans is grayed out: nothing uses it yet.

Known limitations

  • Not code-signed and not notarized. The deb and rpm packages have not yet been installed on clean RHEL 9 or Ubuntu 22.04 machines.

  • 从 0.3.1 升级：SpaceKnife 会在右上角显示徽章。点开会看到更新概要和一键下载，下载的是对应安装方式的文件，并按发布的 SHA-256 核对。快照和设置都保留。
  • Windows：直接在旧版本上运行新的安装程序，它会关闭 SpaceKnife 并替换旧版本。安装包未签名，第一次运行时 SmartScreen 会提示「未知发布者」，点「更多信息 › 仍要运行」。
  • macOS：把 SpaceKnife 拖进「应用程序」。第一次打开会被系统拦下，到「系统设置 › 隐私与安全性」点「仍要打开」（步骤）。
  • 便携版：解压到任意位置运行，所有数据都存在程序旁的 data 文件夹里。升级时替换程序文件，保留 data。
  • Linux：deb / rpm 装到 /opt/SpaceKnife，命令是 spaceknife。AppImage 需要 FUSE 2（Ubuntu 上是 libfuse2），没有时加 --appimage-extract-and-run 运行。从这个版本起，可以用 AppImageUpdate 就地更新。

新功能

  • 软件内帮助：文档随软件一起打包，离线也能看。
    • F1 打开讲当前界面的那一页：启动页打开「第一次扫描」，过滤框打开「过滤」，命令面板打开它自己的那一页。
    • 也可以从标题栏的帮助按钮或命令面板的「帮助」打开。
    • 帮助有自己的搜索框（/）；「在网站上查看」在浏览器里打开官网的同一页。
  • F5、Shift+F5、Ctrl+S 开始生效，分别对应「重新扫描当前视图」「全盘重新扫描」「保存快照」。在过滤框里打字时也能用。
    • 在命令面板里显示为灰色的命令，按键也不执行，窗口底部会提示原因。
    • 按住不放只执行一次。
  • AppImage 增量更新：AppImage 里写入了更新信息，每次发布都附带 .zsync 文件，AppImageUpdate、AppImageLauncher 之类的工具可以直接就地更新。

修复

  • 对比视图里的「重新扫描当前视图」：以前会去重扫扫描结果里另一个不相干的文件夹；现在在对比视图里不可用，并提示原因。
  • 多个扫描位置的最顶层：「重新扫描当前视图」以前什么都不做，现在会把每个位置都重读一遍。
  • 设置说明更正：主题、动画帧率、空闲时使用低 I/O 优先级、Linux 上的实时监控。
  • 「增量重扫默认」：还没有接入，现在显示为灰色。

已知限制

  • 没有代码签名，也没有经过公证。deb 和 rpm 包还没在干净的 RHEL 9 和 Ubuntu 22.04 上安装测试过。

许可证：MIT。安装包在 resources/licenses/ 里附带第三方许可证。
