v1.1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 08 Sep 00:09
c3d88b2

Fixed

  • Adding, removing or reordering part of a tile that already has translations no longer breaks them. Adding a column to a translated table used to leave the translation a column short, and the next time that language was opened it showed the original's words — saving from there wrote them over the translation for good. Every language of a tile is now kept in the same shape, and a language you have not filled in yet gains an empty field rather than losing what it says.

Changed

  • Adding, removing and reordering are available while writing a tile in another language, not only in the language it was written in. Because a tile has one shape in all its languages, doing any of them changes the tile everywhere — the note at the top of the editor says so.

The APK below is the full version

The build attached here is assembled with -Plarova.paidTier=false: every tile type is available, nothing asks for money, and no store code runs. That is deliberate — the licence lets anyone rebuild Larova without the paid tier in about five minutes, so a crippled sideload build would buy nothing and cost goodwill.

It does mean this build has no way to contribute. If it is useful to you and you would like to help pay for the time it takes:

https://liberapay.com/EarMaster/

Entirely optional, and it unlocks nothing — there is nothing left to unlock.

v1.1.3

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 21:01

Changed

  • Saving a translation now closes the editor and shows the tile in the language you just wrote, instead of returning to the tile's own text. Seeing the words on the tile is the point of writing them.

Added

  • Table columns and rows can be moved up or down one place at a time. Before this, the only way to change the order of a table was to retype it.

v1.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 18:29
2399220

Changed

  • Writing a tile in another language now uses the tile's own editor rather than a separate screen of numbered boxes. Every field is where it is when you write the tile: a guide's steps are steps, a call tile's people are people. What is not words — the colour, the symbol, the pictures, the phone numbers, the addresses — is shown greyed as belonging to the tile, and a line at the top says so.

Fixed

  • A call tile with more than one person can now be translated in full. Only the first person's name and relation could be reached before.
  • A tile now updates itself while you are looking at it. A language added in the editor was missing from the tile's globe menu on the way back, and only reopening the tile from the grid brought it in — as was any other edit you made, including the words themselves.
  • The tile language setting now lists the language your tiles are written in, not only the languages they have been translated into. A phone full of German tiles could be set to English or Italian but not back to German.
  • The tile language setting can also be set to "As written", which shows every tile in whatever language it was written in. It was reachable from a tile's own globe menu and could be read back on the settings screen, but not chosen there.
  • The button that closes the tile language chooser said "Not now". It says "Cancel", which is what it does.

v1.1.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 15:35

Changed

  • Unlocking parent view now returns you to your tiles instead of leaving you on the settings screen. Parent view is what you turn on to add or change a tile, and that starts on the grid.
  • The language a tile is written in is now always offered in its globe menu, listed separately from "Follow the app language". Following the app is an automatic mode; picking German is a choice, and on a German phone those looked like the same thing while behaving differently. A tile you have not named the language of is offered as "As written".
  • Editing a tile now opens in the language you were reading it in. Looking at the Turkish and tapping edit gets you the Turkish, instead of the original with the globe still to find.
  • Saving a translation goes back to the tile's own text instead of closing the editor. Writing one of a tile's several languages is rarely the end of the job.

Fixed

  • The editor's language menu sometimes listed none of a tile's translations, so the only way back into one was to add it again — which then opened the translation that was supposedly not there. Adding a language you already had was offered for the same reason.
  • Saying what language a tile is written in is now recorded straight away. It used to be kept until you saved the tile, so answering the question and then leaving the editor lost the answer without saying so.

v1.1.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Sep 10:25

Changed

  • The globe on a tile now opens a menu instead of going straight to a translation app: it lists the languages that tile can be read in, and offers the hand-off below them. The row of language chips under the title is gone — it asked the same question twice, and on a guide it took the height a step needed.
  • The editor has the same globe. It switches which language you are writing in place, says which language the tile itself is written in, adds a language, and hands the words on screen to a translation app for a first draft. The "Other languages" section at the bottom of the form is gone, and translating no longer opens a separate screen.
  • A tile can be written in any language the phone knows, not only the fourteen Larova itself speaks. The picker offers those fourteen first and the rest behind a search.

Added

  • You can now say what language a tile is written in. Once you have, that language can be chosen when reading the tile — so a phone set to Turkish can still be shown the German the tile was written in. Tiles you have not answered for keep working exactly as before.

Removed

  • The note saying a tile had been changed since its translation was written, on the tile and in the editor both. Nobody reading a tile could act on it, and it was a sentence about bookkeeping in front of somebody looking for how to do something.

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Sep 20:27

Changed

  • Larova is out of beta. This is the first full version — a grid of tiles a parent writes and whoever is looking after the child reads in two taps, in fourteen languages, with no account, no server and no internet permission. Nothing in the app changed with this release; the version number is the announcement.

v0.6.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Sep 16:24

Changed

  • The settings screen is now grouped under headings — parent view, language, appearance, data, and "About Larova" at the foot — instead of one long run of cards with a single heading part way down. Nothing was removed; it is the same screen with the places named.
  • The full version has moved to the bottom of that screen, beside the version number. It says what this copy of Larova is, not what you can change about it, and it was sitting among the settings as if it were one of them.
  • The app's own language setting is now called "App language", so it reads as one half of the language group rather than the whole of it. "Tile language" beside it is unchanged.

v0.6.0

Added

  • Tiles can be written in more than one language. In parent view a tile now has an "Other
    languages" section: pick a language and Larova copies the tile’s words into a form for you to
    change — the title, the steps, the items, one box each. The original is never touched, and the
    Translate button is there to get a starting point from a translation app. Larova translates
    nothing itself and never reads what you paste.
  • A tile that has more than one language shows them as buttons at the top; tapping one switches
    every tile on the phone to that language, so a caregiver sets it once. A tile that has not been
    translated is shown exactly as written — never hidden, never greyed out. If you change a tile
    after translating it, the translation says so rather than pretending to be current.
  • A "Tile language" setting to put that choice back, or change it without opening a tile.
  • Tiles can now be translated. A tile opened by somebody who does not read the language it was
    written in has a globe in the top bar: tapping it hands the words on that tile to a translation
    app already on the phone. Larova itself translates nothing and sends nothing anywhere — it
    passes the words to an app you chose, the same way tapping a contact passes a number to the
    phone app. Phone numbers, web addresses and app names are left out, because a translated one
    would stop working. If there is no translation app on the phone, the globe is not shown.
  • A Language row in the settings, for the person holding the phone. It opens Android’s own
    language screen for Larova, where you can set the app to a different language from the rest
    of the phone — so a caregiver can read the buttons in their own language without changing
    anything else. Needs Android 13 or newer; on older phones the row is not shown.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Sep 11:03

Fixed

  • The version built from source — the APK on the GitHub release page — now says where to help
    pay for the development, and tapping the full-version card opens that page in the browser.
    It named no address at all, and the card it should have been on did nothing when tapped.
    Nothing changes in the version from Google Play: there the same card asks Play again, and
    asking for a donation beside something you can buy would be asking twice.

Fixed

  • Tapping the full version in the settings now answers you. While Larova asks Google Play the
    card says so, and if the store has no purchase for this phone you get told why — a different
    Google account, or a store that could not be reached — with the option to buy the full version
    right there. It used to check silently and leave the card looking exactly as it had before.
