Design Philosophy

Plural’s design philosophy is referred to internally as the Oscar principle. It is a philosophy that structures its systems, interactions, and interfaces to assume all users of the software are good actors. That is, all users are expected to:

  • Prioritise the well-being of others.
  • Use all systems without malicious intent.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct of the community and expect the same of others.

Landing page

Garden page

The Garden page is comprised of three sections.

  • Garden header
  • Garden timeline
  • Garden footer

Garden header

The Garden header displays:

  • The title of the current Garden
  • The current date in YYYY-mm-dd format (e.g. 2025-12-31)

Garden timeline

The Garden timeline displays up to three Asks at a time.

Asks in the Garden timeline are sorted using the following criteria, in ascending order:

  1. The Deadline date of the Ask
  2. The Creation date of the Ask

Meaning if two Asks are created on the same day, the Ask with a sooner (i.e. earlier) Deadline date, will appear first on the Garden timeline.

Garden footer

The Garden footer houses the buttons for opening menus. These buttons allow you to access the following context specific menus:

  • Asks
  • Settings
  • Users
  • Gardens
