v1.6 Contributors Patch + Defender Update
v1.6.0: Contributor’s Patch
This was a beefy update thanks to the growing GobboNet community. Thank you to the many folks who spent time helping to report, diagnose, and troubleshoot issues so that we could update the app!
General fixes:
- Tried to get Defender to cry less
Neoliminal
- Pin SHA-256 of engine + embed model
- Strip run-flags from transferred state
- Sanitize GGUF metadata → generated .cmd
escapeHtml now has better fallback
Wizzense [not properly credited prior to this patch] - Fallback to loopback when LAN is denied
John McCardle [not properly credited prior to this patch] - Linux wine catch
- Roadmaps for Linux
Additional Fixes From The Discord Community:
- Bad links on the suggested models swapped out [plans to eventually make an ‘add model’ button to the config menu have been added]
- Purge remediation to fix an issue where user side information wasn’t fully getting purged by the uninstalled [chats specifically]
- Port assignments are now stable and no longer require a restart to work properly
- Llama health being improperly registered in the CMD is now fixed
v1.5.8 - QOL Updates For Power Users
v1.5.8: QOL Improvements
Linux and Mac ports are still on the way in the next 7-14 days post this release. In the meantime, we’re working on smoothing out other improvements suggested by the community before we begin making official splits.
Fixes implemented for 1.5.8:
- Port 8080 ditched for variable ports, accessible via installer + config menu
- No more set GPU layers, user control shifted to config, default in place for users who may be unfamiliar with this practice
- Zombie requests no longer kill the LAN server [hit stop > another request is sent before the first has finished processing = server must process every request before stabilizing]. Stabilization no longer requires processing the request backlog.
- Ollama no longer mistaken for llama.cpp
- Search proxy [OK] on 503 issue fixed, same root cause as other bugs this prior to 1.5.8
v1.5.4 Bug Updates
1.5.4 - Now with less bugs
Holymoly, thanks to the growing GobboNet community, we've been able to pinpoint an error impacting roughly 20% of machines. Workarounds were found, which is great! But hopefully this update and another few coming this week will help smooth things out.
Problem: Loopback fallback
Fix: Rescues your reporter. Wildcard bind failure no longer kills the server — it retries 127.0.0.1 and the desktop chat works
Problem: fileserver.log
Fix: The diagnostic it was always printing into a hidden window now survives; launch.bat prints it
Problem: Construct/bind split
Fix: Stops blaming the URL ACL for every failure
Problem: Reserved-port detection
Fix: The cause netstat cannot see, now named explicitly
Problem: setup-lan.bat SDDL + verify
Fix: No longer reports success on non-English Windows while doing nothing
Problem: Secret validated every run
Fix: Not just first run
Problem: :http_probe 401 handling
Fix: Stops scoring a healthy server as dead
Problem: Corrected failure message
Fix: "Desktop chat still works" was false
Problem: TROUBLESHOOTING.md + SECURITY.md
Fix: The docs launch.bat pointed at now exist and ship
v1.5.3
GobboNet 1.5.3
Character cards
- Reminder and context limit are now per-card. Both settings have moved off the
global config panel and onto the character card itself, so every character carries its own
instead of inheriting one shared value. Paired with a smart response limit that
adapts to the card rather than hard-cutting at a fixed number. - Card fields reordered. The card now runs roughly in order of complexity:
writing style → personality → greetings → alternate greetings → starting lore →
RAG → custom code → global sliders. Nothing was removed; it's just laid out in the
order you'd actually fill it in.
Default characters
- Storyteller removed. It overlapped too heavily with the DM to justify keeping
both. - DM adjusted to cover the ground Storyteller was handling.
Lorebook & compression
- Another pass on lorebook handling and conversation compression, including a
multishot prompt example aimed at producing tighter, less rambling plot-beat notes. - Honest note: the lorebook is improved, not fixed. It's still misbehaving in
places and remains actively on the list.
Bug fixes
- Quote handling fixed. Finally.
- Fixed the incorrect character count shown on the password prompt during setup.
Docs
- About section updated.

v1.5.1 Refactor
GobboNet 1.5.1
Refactor
Substantial internal rewrite. Cleaner file structure — the project now uses
folders instead of a single flat directory.
New features
- Custom code per character card — attach your own JavaScript to an
individual character, so behavior can be scoped per-card instead of
applied globally.
Quality of life
- Lorebook content is now exposed by default — no more digging to see
what lore is actually in play during a conversation.
Bug fixes
- Fixed multiple issues surrounding password file handling, including
problems with creation, reset, and validation.

v1.3 Exe + Rag Drop
Download GobboNetSetup.exe below. 660 KB, Windows 10/11, no admin rights required.
New
Retrieval (RAG). GobboNet now runs a local embedding model alongside your chat model, so it can pull relevant pieces of your own documents into the conversation. Indexing happens on your machine like everything else — nothing gets uploaded to make it searchable.
One-click installer. No more pulling loose files out of the repo. One small installer, per-user install, Start Menu and desktop shortcuts, and an uninstaller that asks before it goes near your downloaded models.
launch.exe and launchLAN.exe. Double-clickable launchers instead of raw .bat files. launchLAN.exe handles the optional phone/tablet setup and tells you what it's about to do before Windows asks for admin.
Fixed
- llama.cpp detection could report a false positive on an empty
llama-cppfolder and skip the download entirely. The server then died on startup with an empty log, which looked like a VRAM problem but wasn't.
Quality of life
- Linux flag
- PW recovery flag on install
- Improved truncation prompting for compression
- Installer + uninstaller
Installing
- Run
GobboNetSetup.exe - Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" → More info → Run anyway. The installer isn't signed with a paid certificate.
- Open GobboNet, pick a model, let it download
- Optional: run LAN Setup from the Start Menu to reach it from your phone
