Releases: Endogen/release-inbox

v0.6.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Endogen Endogen released this 16 Oct 21:08

Changes

  • A single left click on the tray icon now shows or hides the app reliably, including when clicking the tray takes focus away from the window. Hidden and minimized windows are restored.
  • The tray now reports whether the desktop app can receive notifications, including when it is disconnected or signed out.
  • Added the project website with installation information and platform downloads.

Fixes

  • Background polling continues after an unexpected sync failure instead of stopping permanently.
  • AI summary cache keys include repository and publication date, preventing summaries from being reused for the wrong project or release context.
  • Marking older releases as read or snoozing them no longer affects newer releases with the same publication timestamp.
  • Signing out waits for deferred actions that are already running.
  • Snoozing a desktop notification affects only the releases named in it. Undo no longer wakes separately snoozed releases with the same deadline.

Upgrading

Update the server and web app together. There are no database migrations. Existing summary cache entries no longer match the corrected keys; a new summary is generated only when requested.

Downloads

Desktop installers are built automatically after publication and appear under Assets when all platform builds finish:

  • macOS: universal .dmg for Apple silicon and Intel.
  • Windows: .msi and .exe installers.
  • Linux: .AppImage, .deb, and .rpm packages.

v0.6.0

@Endogen Endogen released this 15 Oct 22:44

Changes

  • Desktop clients for Windows, macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), and Linux, connected to your self-hosted Releases server.
  • Show only in tray hides the Dock or taskbar icon while keeping the window accessible from the tray. The setting takes effect immediately and persists across restarts. Linux behavior depends on the desktop environment's taskbar and tray support.
  • Monochrome icon on macOS and Windows, including the unread indicator. Windows follows the system taskbar's light or dark theme and updates automatically when it changes.
  • Start at login with the window hidden, close to tray, and native notifications with actions to mark releases as read, snooze until tomorrow, or mute a repository.
  • Fixes for macOS startup and the bundled setup page, plus improvements to server navigation and desktop notification handling.
  • Snooze reminders name every release that wakes up.
  • GitHub release builds now attach freshly built desktop installers for all three platforms.

Downloads

Desktop installers are built automatically after publication and will appear under Assets when all platform builds finish:

  • macOS: universal .dmg for Apple silicon and Intel.
  • Windows: .msi and .exe installers.
  • Linux: .AppImage, .deb, and .rpm packages.

Upgrading

Update your server and rebuild using the README's Updating instructions before connecting the desktop app; older servers do not provide desktop notifications. There are no database migrations in this release. On first launch, enter your server address and sign in as usual.

v0.5.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Endogen Endogen released this 09 Oct 18:03

Changes

  • The star count in the release detail now sits next to the repository name, so the description below it gets the whole line.

Upgrading

Pull, then rebuild as described under Updating in the README. There are no database changes.

v0.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Endogen Endogen released this 07 Oct 19:38

Highlights

  • New settings. Notifications, your inbox and how the app looks, in one place. On phones the settings open as a full page with a back button, and the back gesture closes them.
  • Only hear about breaking changes, if you like: notifications for every channel can be limited to releases with breaking changes.
  • Mark as read after viewing. Optionally, an entry is marked as read once you move on to another repository or close it.
  • The inbox count on the app icon of the installed app, kept up to date by push notifications while the app is closed. It can be turned off.
  • Display options per device: light, dark or system theme, a compact list with two-line rows, star counts, relative or calendar dates, and the tab releases open on.
  • Hidden releases explain themselves. A hidden release names the rule that hides it, with Show again (and Undo) to remove it, or points to the pre-release setting.

Fixes

  • The stable release of a new major version is marked as breaking after its pre-releases too, so it isn't missed when pre-releases are quiet or hidden.
  • New download counts no longer make every open tab reload its lists every 30 minutes.
  • Background refreshes no longer show the sync spinner.
  • The app works when the browser blocks storage.
  • Searching while a release is open keeps the way back to the list; on phones, j/k add a history entry like a tap does.
  • Tapping the date of an entry opens it.
  • Quick changes to several settings no longer undo each other.
  • Parallel sign-in guesses are throttled like sequential ones.
  • One failing push subscription no longer stops delivery to the others.
  • Restarting the service no longer waits for open browser tabs.
  • On very narrow screens the view tabs fit again.

Under the hood

  • Type checking with pyright and dependency checks with deptry in CI.
  • Shared components for empty states, tooltips, keyboard hints and setting rows; the inbox page and release detail are split into smaller hooks and components.
  • The GitHub client reports network failures as GitHub errors; the Anthropic SDK is only loaded when summaries are configured.

Upgrading

Pull, then rebuild as described under Updating in the README. Restarting the service applies the two new database migrations.

v0.4.0

@Endogen Endogen released this 07 Oct 15:49

Copy links to releases.

Changes

  • Long-press to copy. On a phone, hold your finger on an entry in the list to copy the link to its release. The row tints when the press is long enough, and a toast confirms the copy. A short tap still opens the release, and moving your finger scrolls or swipes as before.
  • Copy from the release view. The menu of a release has Copy link to release, and the new shortcut c does the same.

Copying needs the app to be served over HTTPS (or opened on localhost); browsers don't offer the clipboard otherwise.

Star counts in the inbox.

The inbox

Changes

  • Star counts. Every entry in the list shows how many stars its repository has, after the repository name, compact like on GitHub (12.4k). The counts are refreshed once a day; unchanged repositories don't use up the GitHub rate limit.

Upgrading

The database gets a new migration for the star counts. The systemd service applies it automatically on start; otherwise run ghr migrate. The counts appear within the first refresh after the update, about a minute after the server starts.

v0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Endogen Endogen released this 07 Oct 14:48

A tidier release view, especially on phones.

The inbox

Changes

  • One row of actions. The release view shows Mark as read, Snooze and Unsubscribe in a single row on every screen, so the release notes get more room. Opening the release or repository on GitHub and hiding releases moved into a menu (o and h still work). On narrow phones, Snooze and Unsubscribe show only their icons.
  • One clear button in the search field. Chrome and Safari added a second one of their own.
  • Roomier view tabs, so the unread counters no longer look cramped.

Maintenance

  • Updated shadcn/ui (4.21.4), Radix UI (1.7.0), Vite (8.3.3) and the backend build tool.

@Endogen Endogen released this 06 Oct 22:01

The first release of Releases: a self-hosted inbox for the GitHub releases you watch.

The inbox

Highlights

  • One entry per repository. Only the newest release is listed. What's new combines the notes of every unread release of a repository.
  • Inbox, Snoozed, Read and Hidden views. Read state is mirrored to github.com.
  • Snooze a release until later today, tomorrow, the weekend or next week. It comes back with a reminder.
  • Breaking changes stand out with a Breaking badge, based on the release notes or a new major version.
  • Hide components of a monorepo (for example web@*) without unsubscribing.
  • Unsubscribe in one click, and swipe to triage on phones. Every action can be undone for six seconds.
  • AI summaries of a release, or of everything new in a repository, with Claude.
  • Notifications via browser push, ntfy and Telegram, with per-repository muting.
  • Live updates. GitHub is polled every minute, and open tabs update instantly.
  • Keyboard driven (j/k, e, s, h, o, /, ?), light and dark theme, installable as an app.

Getting started

See the README for local development, deployment on Ubuntu (systemd, nginx, daily backups) and the configuration reference.
